Draco and Lucius Malfoy In PS/SS we met Draco for the first time, and learn a little about what sort of person he is, and how he gets along with his parents, who are busy getting him all the other things he needs for school whilst he is being measured up for his uniform in Madame Malkins' shop when Harry also arrives in the shop. Harry and Draco are rivals and enemies almost from the beginning, a relationship exacerbated when Draco on several occasions seems out to get Harry into trouble. By the beginning of COS, even his father warns Draco 'it is not -prudent - to appear less than fond of Harry Potter'. (COS p. 43) In COS we get to see a bit more of Draco's family and how Draco's father operates, from several points of view. There is the Dobby point of view and what we learn of his treatment. There are the conversations Harry overheard in Borgin and Burkes and also in Hagrid's hut, when Lucius arrives to get Dumbledore dismissed. Harry is a witness both when Lucius gives Ginny the diary and at the end when Dobby is freed from the Malfoys. Some people have seen Lucius as a cold father, hard for Draco to please, but now that we have seen the whole series, is this true? What do you think of Lucius as a parent and a prominent Wizarding World citizen? How do the Weasleys see the Malfoys and why is there a feud between the two families? What part is Dobby playing in furthering Malfoy schemes? -------------------- Check out Book Number 5 POA edition. |
