I must agree with the Majority.
It is nice that JKR takes the time to award those sites she feels deserves her praise. I myself frequent The Leaky Cauldron, HPANA, and mugglenet on a regular basis. But i am also a Star Wars fan as well. Let me say this, George Lucas and the Star Wars creators and Actors do not give an third of the attention to the fansites that JKR does.
In this way she is wonderful, not only does she recognize outstanding work in the fan community, but she herself is involved in the community. That is amazing. If you dont believe me check out www.swendirect.com-it is a Star Wars site that has a radio show. One of their topics recently was the Fansite issue between studios, and creators. In listening to the Webmasters of these fan communities, LOTR, Star Wars, and King Kong, we are so lucky JKR has been so open with us.
There are nowhere near as many creators who are as open. Also i think as a community we have been lucky with Warner Brothers and the other Marketing divisions, compared to many other fan communities out there HP is at the top.
The fact that JKR even communicates with her fans on a website of her own is amazing. She is keeping us informed of her world, something she could choose not to do. I think it is important to note not that she does not shut out the fanfiction writers and creators, but more that she is so OPEN with the information she DOES GIVE to the community.
The Open letter is a prime example. Here is a letter that is entierly composed of fan questions, it keeps growing, yet she answers it because she chooses to. She responds to rumors, debunks myths, and drives us all crazy with her cryptic clues.
And on top of everything else she awards her fans. She is a rare author for doing that. If you look at other authors and other communities of fans, the creators and the fans have a very distant relationship. I think in the HP community it is safe to say we all feel we have a relationship with JKR, one that is somewhat close, after all she let the fans know she was expecting a baby, and when she had her baby, most authors would not have done this, they would not update us on their progress in books.
And in return we show our unwavering support. So i guess it is a give and take relationship. And i for one am proud to be part of it. Any fansite that she awards deserves that award, otherwise she would not have chosen them. I think in time The Leaky Cauldron will recieve that award, and many others, right now however we should just feel priviledged that our community is recognized, either through posts on her site-which personally i find much more exciting-or through awards.
I think the fact that she can name members and poke fun at individuals in the community is the BEST thing about the fansites they have given us a connection to the author of these brilliant books. And if for that alone, i am happy. I think we all should be, it means that she appreciates our support, and no award is more significant that that.

I think you took the words right out of my mouth. That was brillantly written, well done!
I, too, am very grateful for Jo. It's great that she shows an interest, rather than never mentioning us at all. It just proves how humble and down-to-earth she is.
I think it's her that makes the HP fandom so unique and so friendly.
