Now to make this more fun, we decided to make a poll about the possible attractions we would like to see in the Harry Potter Theme Park.

So let's dream on a bit and tell us what you would like to see the most in an Harry Potter Theme Park!

There are a few pieces of news tonight regarding the newly announced "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" theme park coming to the Islands of Adventure at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

First, for those that missed the news before, the HarryPotter/Universal website we told you about the other night is indeed open, and contains a place for fans to register for alerts, the text of the announcement, as well as some detailed FAQs about this park. As we have received many owls on this subject, please note the site specifically says the park may open "late 2009 or early 2010." Also new is an edited version of the webcast announcement (the original here on our Youtube channel), with additional footage of the Dumbledore's office set. You can download this new announcement video via our galleries.

The second piece of news is regarding some of the new features which are rumored to be part of the new Harry Potter section of Universal, specifically some of the rides. Readers will remember several years ago that a blogger named Jim Hill reported the first of the Harry Potter theme park rumors with Disney; tonight Mr. Hill has a new report on what he believes some of the purported new rides are to be, including one involving the Weasley Family car. In response to the "state of the art" attraction mentioned in the Universal announcement, Jim Hill writes the following on what he believes this attraction will be:

A big "E" Ticket attraction. Which -- as you may have already heard -- will be a state-of-the-art family-friendly thrill ride that will then allow IOA guests to first soar through the trees of the Forbidden Forest and then fly high above the grounds of Hogwarts inside of the Weasley family's Ford Anglia. (FYI : This attraction will reportedly be housed inside of the soon-to-be-closed-and-gutted "Eighth Voyage of Sindbad" stunt show theater).

Other intriguing tidbits involve a racing coaster ride, with the piece stating "it's be re-imagined as part of the Tri Wizard Tournament. Where brave wizards do battle with fierce dragons. With the hope that they'll be able to win the Goblet of Fire" Also reportedly we will "get a chance to get a close-up look at the Goblet. Which -- just as it appeared in the "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" film -- will be displayed on an ornate pedestal with magical blue flames licking out of its top."

In addition, Jim Hill reports this about a Hagrid's Hut area: "Take -- for example -- that area's "Flying Unicorn" kiddie coaster. According to what I hear, Universal plans on retheming this area so that you first queue up in the garden outside of Hagrid's cottage. Then -- after wandering through the Care of Magical Creatures teacher's home -- you then get the chance to board the now re-themed "Flying Hippogriff" kiddie coaster."

While this all sounds very exciting, please keep this very much in the rumor category for now.
Thanks Justin!

I can't even begin to imagine all the fun we could have at the park. My main hope is that they make it TRULY authentic as much as possible, with all the teeny, tiny details that you might only notice after several times through, but that make it a much richer experience. (Like the wicked step-mother opening the window and looking out over the square in Fantasyland at Disneyland - above the Snow White ride - or the sword in the stone in the same area that can actually be pulled part way up but only once a day in a completely random timeframe, stuff that millions of guests have never noticed but the fifty-second time you go to the park and notice it you're like, "COOL!")

For specifics, hmm... I would LOVE to have Hogwarts be not so much a ride or something, but a living environment, like a hotel you could stay in and eat in the great hall and explore all the areas of the castle that we read about. Maybe the entrance to the ROR would only be accessible at certain times of the day (that would have to not be posted, strictly by chance) If they put in the library, maybe someday we could actually check out (purchase) "Hogwarts, A History" if Jo does write it.

It sounds like Diagon Alley is not planned to be part of it, which is a shame because we really need the Gringott's cart ride, and it could be a working bank (because you know we are all going to need buckets of galleons to spend), not to mention all the shops and Fortescue's ice cream place, and OF COURSE the Leaky Cauldron! That really should be the entrance to the whole thing.

They've got to have a Quidditch match, whether as a show or a ride, and stuff from the Triwizard Tournament. Honeydukes is a must, and Zonko's, although I'd rather have Weasley's Wizard Wheezes if they would do Diagon Alley. Maybe if Fred and George do buy out Zonko's in DH, we could get it that way.

Oh, I don't know, I am dizzy just thinking about it all! The new "happiest place on earth!" I can't wait to see it. wizard.gif

As both a Potter and a Theme Park fan, I can't wait for this. Islands of Adventure is a superb park, with some wonderful theming, in which harry will fit right in. The reported sums which NBC/Universal are spending on this are HUGE (some sites I visit are reporting as much as $500 million!!), although that doesn't nesecaraly indicate quality.

When the rumours that Lost Continent was to be rethemed first came up a while ago, I was the one to call Dulling Dragons (IMO one of the best Inverted coasters on the plannet) would be rethemed to the 1st Triwizard Task (I actually believe one coaster will represent Harry on thie Firebolt and the other will be the Horntail as oposed to generically repainting them as wizard and dragon) and that the Unicorn would be the flying hippogriff.

As far as other attractions go, the Ford Anglia ride trully will be completly unique, seeing how no other theme park can build a ride with a Kuka Robtoic arm (Universal has an exclusive 10 year lease on the technology in a theme park environment). I'd rather not have the ride through the forrest though, instead I'd prefer it to chase the Hogwarts Express, as in the book and the film (which the visual style of the island is based upon).

Another atraction I came up with is based on the Triwizard Maze, using a concept that was to be used in the planned "Beastly Kingdomme" are of Disney's Animal Kingdom

Link to the big image

At the back of the above picture, where there is a white building surounded by green was to be a series of hedge mazes with interactive animatronics and other features such as water jets http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=mg060711mp more can be found at that link. Imagine walking through the triwizzard maze and bumping into the sphynx and having to work out her clue in order to progress. It could be one of the most immersive atractions ever built.

As far as Hogwarts goes, I'd love to see the castle house a wide range of things - tours round the castle by "Prefects", the Great Hall resteraunt, complete with interactive ghosts, and lastly a Chamber of Secrets dark ride, possibly a boat ride like Pirates of the Carribean?

Hey, how could you have left out Firewhiskey and Rosmerta's oak-matured mead?

Maybe I'm missing those drinks so much because I'm a breastfeeding mother at the moment. Well, only a few months left and I'll be able to mix myself a nice and delicious Caipirinha again. ;P

Very nice poll!

I've voted pretty much for all of everything, greedy I know, but it all sounds so exciting!

Another idea would be for a Whomping Willow rollercoaster, where you ride around the tree, either on broomsticks or in a ford anglia, and as you ride around the tree moves and at certain points branches actually sweep past your head, or land on the track just in front of you. I know it sounds a little far fetched, but these theme park geniuses can do anything these days!! Maybe it could be like a simulator?! thumbup.gif

I voted for all of them. Though I know Universal cannot build everything related to the Potterverse, but It'll be great if they try.

I would love to go on a Flying Ford Anglia rollercoaster, and fly on a Hippogriff. A Gringotts rollercoaster would be good but as someone mentioned above it looks like there will be no Diagon Alley.

A haunted Shrieking Shack ride sounds ace. Maybe they could have the Whomping Willow guard. Though I don't know if that will get past health and safety. As I mentioned in a previous post the Quidditch game could involve people getting on brooms supported by cables or poles. But now I think an fully immersive interactive team multiplayer video game would be better. biggrin.gif

I would love to walk around a full size Hogwarts like in the movies with moving staircases, talking portraits, and trying to avoid the gaze of Mrs Norris. Holographic ghosts moving through the school would be great also, and I would really like to have meals in the Great Hall. Also Hogwarts could be a hotel as well, with the four houses and teachers rooms given over for bedrooms.

And I want to visit Hagrid's hut and wander into the Forbidden Forest talking to centaurs, and avoiding acromatulas.

They might not be able to fit Privet Drive, the Ministry of Magic, or Grimmauld Place into the site. Though I think Universal could manage a scaled down Hogwarts Express that goes round the grounds. A Knight Bus too!

Going round Hogsmeade and visiting all the pubs and shops would be wonderful. Maybe some of the Diagon Alley shops could relocate there. Drinking butterbeer and swapping chocolate frog cards sounds brilliant. Eating Hagrid's famous rock cakes too! lol.gif

I'm not sure about seeing actors playing the characters, but maybe they could do some of them like Dumbledore, Filch, Hagrid, and Maddame Rosemerta.

Everyone here in the burrows is filled with excitement with the prospect of the Universal theme park being redone. I really hated that Sinbad thing anyway and it was a complete waste of space. They could use a lot of the same stuff in there and have like Harry or the trio take you through the trap door past the three headed dog, then through Devils Snare, then they could take you to the room with the flying keys, the room with the huge wizards chess and then potions that take you through the flames to get to the Sorcerers stone. The same idea that they already have and alot of the same technology but this would be a lot more exciting. The person leading us could be Neville. Remember he was frozen for a moment while trying to stop them. I just love Neville! This is just an idea.

The flying Ford would be great but expensive. If they did it like the Rock and Roll Roller Coaster in MGM Studio and have all the things like flying over Hogwarts, the Whomping Willow and swooping past the Hogwarts express or in front of by mistake, flying through the forbidden forest and over London and the sites Big Ben, the London Eye and London Bridge. Soar is another great Disney attraction that Universal could learn from. Whatever they do we will be there.

Hey,
I totally agree with the thought of a Quiddithc match... though it looks quite complicated. I have full confidence in Universal's engineering staff to overcome this giant feat... I just hope the rides dont steal away from the beauty of the scene as it would be in the books or movies... I don't wanna be walking down Hogsmeade and seeing a rollercoaster rise up behind Honeydukes... or something like that. A quidditch attraction... I guess it would be possible to have a "Fully immersed multiplayer game" but it would be highly difficult... again i Have FULL confidence in Universal... but it would be EXTREMELY fun to play. I personally would be satisfied with just a highly realistic 4D match experience from the High box or the high-strung student sectoin, cheering on Ravenclaw house of course (GO CHO!!!). I would be terrible at quidditch anyhow.
I have a question... how many people would wear their school robes to this theme park??? I certainly would, if i had any... im too poor to get any though... anywho!!! That would be great to be surrounded by people wearing their school colors!!! I guess a lot of the attractions will be shops wear you can buy pranks, wands, brooms, quidditch sets, remembralls, and things... which brings me to another important aspect... OWLS!!!!! There must be tons of owls here!!!!!! If not, it will be... well... not as fun. I know of course it should cost a lot, but profits should outweigh costs by at least 3:1... I plan to spend my whole life there when it opens... maybe get a job... actually, im going into engineering in College, with my main focus being amusment park attractions and Roller Coasters... I will stop rambling now...

Thanx!!!!

I want to see all of them too!! I am just so excited. I already told my mom I am going to Florida in 2010. I'll be happy with whatever they put in. Just build it really fast!! Does this mean Laura Mallory will protest this project? I mean, it's her worst nightmare; the Harry Potter series coming to life and having millions of people everyday actually be able to interact in the world.

The Rock n Roller Coaster is amazing!! It would be brilliant to have a similiar ride with the flying Ford Anglia. Also, the idea of having famous English land marks incorporated into the ride is genius, brings in some of the Britishness of the novel.

The ford anglia ride will surely be very nice...

But i think the entrance fee of this park will be OH-SO-HIGH i can never afford it.

It's like anything else, when something this good is happening, it's sure that someone will try to make the more money he can out of it.

My eldest girl called me up when she first found out about the theme park, and said that she wants to be there the day it opens, I've told her tha if she saves her pocket money I'll match what she has saved and if we have enough I'll do my best to get us and her younger sister there. She is already tasting butterbeer, imagining riding a broomstick, visiting the Gryffindor common room and too many other things that I can remember them all. I just hope it lives up to her fantasy. But saying that with todays technology who knows what they might be able to do. And I have to confess I'm looking forward to it too.

I agree... I've always awnted to rock out to the Weird Sisters!!! Or whoever that band was that replaced them so unconditionally in the 4th movie... that song was awesome!!! Maybe that could be my ticket in on opening day... start a wizarding band with all sort of funky instruments and awesome FX!!! that would never work... not for me anyway... but expect to see me there!!! We need some Identification, to show our devotion to Leaky Lounge... like a patch or something... not a tshirt, we'll be wearing our robes and school duds... any ideas?

That band was the Weird Sisters. They just got Jarvis Cocker and various members of Radiohead to form a wizard band and to write three songs. biggrin.gif

Though I suppose a lot of the wizard bands could play in the Great Hall if they create a stage or something.

I would like to see everything listed on the lists! On the question about eating and drinks, i couldn't decide between butterbeer, chocolate frogs, and Hagrid's cooking so those are what i would like. (just as long as the house-elves aren't forced to supply them! sad.gif )

I wonder if at the opening of it, the cast will come! i'll be so excited!

"Only a Quidditch player?" Ron said, looking at her as though he couldn't believe his ears. " Hermione --- he's one of the best Seekers in the world! I had no idea he was still at school!"

I am both saddened and angry,I have just been on warner brothers site to visit HP and we in the UK were led to believe that the theme park for harry potter was to be built in the UK.I find this infuriating as orlando already have the monopoly with Disney world.why oh why seeing JK is british and the film is supposed to be in the UK.fictional or not I think warner brothers should build the park here in the UK.I will never get there like thousands of children in this country who are poor.
I am 52 and have never been to Disney land,so what chance have i got of ever visiting the park now
ever angry conf.gif

Well maybe they could have rails on the ground which enable you to steer the car around the Forbidden Forest trying to avoid animatronic acromantulas and irate centaurs, with a ramp at the end which launches you into the air. The cars could hold four occupants.

Got these ideas from watching CoS again the other night. lol.gif

It would be coold to see an egyptian ride too, (like what Ron discribed). And they of course need hogwarts, the whomping willow, peeves, all the ghosts, random characters... and if they could figure out how to do it, it would be cool to have some sort of underwater tube that goes through the lake and shows the giant squid, moaning myrtle, the merpeople, and all the other underwater magic, it would have to get you wet at some point.

Poseidon's Fury has to be converted into the Chamber of Secrets. Add a giant, animatronic Basilisk in the final room, and you have an incredible show. The only question is: Who will fight the Basilisk? Harry? Dumbledore? Somebody else?

I'm really looking forward to see which characters they'll have for meet-and-greets. If you've ever walked through Seuss Landing or Toon Lagoon, you know that Universal spares no expense on make-up for their IOA characters. The Who's from Whoville are particularly impressive. I can't wait to get my photo with Luna. Actually, snap a photo of me in a Ginny-Luna sandwich and I'll be a very happy man indeed.

Wonder what will become of the Mythos restaurant, which is extremely good and highly recommended to anybody who hasn't eaten there yet. It's a full-service restaurant in Lost Continent, and I'm racking my brain in an attempt to decide what should replace it from the Potterverse. The Three Broomsticks, perhaps? Yeah, that could work.

I really must return to IOA soon and take many, many photos of the Dueling Dragons queue. It's absolutely brilliant, and I dread the day it all gets stripped for the make-over.

There HAS to be a Hogwarts Express. If there isn't, I'm going to be so disillusioned that I won't even want to go.

Wizards' Chess has to be a given.

A large Great-Hall like style eatery - basically a very high tech cafeteria. With tv screens/projectors on the ceiling that can really show what it's like outside.

A maze sounds interesting, but I wouldn't want it to be a ride - I'd prefer it to be something you actually walked through.

I'm all for a petting zoo at Hagrids hut! biggrin.gif

A boat ride like Voldemorts locket-cave would be scary-good. ;D

OH AND PUMPKIN PASTIES. gotta have those.

I want to go around the Halloween after it opens. ;)

Anyone know what the normal ticket price for IOA is...how does it compare to other Orlando parks in terms of expense?

"Ron, you know full well Harry and I were brought up by Muggles!" said Hermione. "We didn't hear stories like that when we were little - we heard stories like 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' and 'Cinderella'-"

So here I am, waking up in the middle of the night with a thought about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter park, particularly the Hogwarts part. It occurred to me that the Headmaster's Office could have a live living portrait of Dumbledore using an actor and a closed circuit television system with a flat screen television set in a picture frame, much like one used on Who Wants To Be A Superhero. Stan Lee would communicate with the 'heroes' via this flat panel tv in the 'lair', and it seems to me that a similar tv screen could be placed in the Headmaster's office with a micro camera hidden in the frame so the actor playing Dumbledore can actually see who's in the office and can make a simulated eye contact with attendees. Also the same thing can be done with the Gryffindor Common Room for the Fat Lady's portrait.

I wanna walk through the maze from the Triwizard Tourn and I would like to go on a virtual stimulation ride of underwater. Don't really care about the dragon because I don't know how they would make that...

I hope they have a lot of family friendly things to do because I would love to go there with my grandchildren all of whom are still a bit young. A hyppogriff ride would be fantastic. The girls would love flying Unicorns. We'd all love the Ford Anglia. There simply has to be a Hogwarts Express. If it can't be a ride, then maybe it could be a snack shop. There could be a Tour of Hogwarts Ride.Diagon Alley makes the perfect place for shops and the Gringotts Roller coaster in the middle.. I bet they could create an experience like the pensive. Oh I can hardly wait, and Orlando is nearby too.
