1) The Purpose of this open forum is to enable the discussion of news items, world events and social issues that are likely to attract a more in-depth and intense discussion than is normally found in other Lounge forums. group.gif

2) Members are welcome to open threads; however, threads that don't abide by the rules will be closed or removed.

3) We ask that members who post in this forum read the Lounge Rules very carefully. This forum, due to it's content matter, will have more heated discussions. However, Rule 1 will be strictly enforced. hogwarts.gif

4) Members who break Rule 1 three times within six months will be denied access to the forum for 2 weeks. Continued breakage of Rule 1 may result in permanently being denied access.

5) Political topics and discussions will be allowed and encouraged in this forum. However, we would just like to remind you to abide by the rules and not discuss politics in the other forums here on Leaky. smile.gif

6) Threads dedicated specifically to religion, religious beliefs, or threads asking members to convert to a religion or a belief will not be permissible.

: Within any given topic, if a religious discussion ensues, such posts may be left alone if they pertain to the topic at hand; however; if a thread turns into a religious debate, or a religious flame, then a moderator may have to step in, and/or the thread may be subsequently closed

7) When referring to news stories, please make sure to add the relevant link. If a link isn't added; a moderator may contact you for the link; or one might be provided for you in your post, which may or may not be the exact news report to which you refer. reporter.gif
Related: Since the discussions within the Muggle Underground are based on news on the Internet, TV, newspapers, radio, etc., it is important to cite all of your sources. Many people who write these articles make a living off of their work, so please give a link to the source, or if quoting a source, please give credit where credit is due. We do not condone plagiarizing here in MU or the Lounge. This also applies to rule #1; quoting a flame against someone is considered flaming the individual yourself, so when using sources to support or refute arguments, please don't use said material as a tool to flame.

8) Have fun and don't kill each other, we love you and need you. Remember when discussing these topics; to do what is right and not what is easy. Gryf flag.gif

For those of you scratching your head and wondering exactly what is allowed in this forum, here are a few more guidelines on what is and isn't allowed.

  • What IS allowed: sarcasm, vehement disagreement, biting criticism, and calling others' arguments/points rubbish. (Ex: "Pleione's suggestion that milk chocolate is better than dark chocolate is asinine and completely baseless." )
  • What IS NOT allowed: insulting the person behind the argument, flaming, or remarks that are unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy or hateful. (Ex: "Pleione is obviously dumb as a stump for liking milk chocolate better." ) Also, you are not allowed to flame real people, including politicians. (Ex: Palin is moronic, idiotic, stupid, etc).
  • Spam posts will be removed: Posts must add to the discussion. If your posts consists only of "Obama/McCain Rocks!" "I hate Biden/Palin" it does not add to the discussion; it is spam and will be removed.
  • Links: You are all more then welcome and encouraged to provide links to websites, blogs, articles, videos and news stories to refute, or support your arguments, provided that the sites you link to are within our PG-13 guidelines. Links to web pages that are pornographic, devoted to adult/child relationships, and accusations of child molestation, will be removed. Moderators reserve the right to remove web page content, or links to web page content if we feel that the content you are posting and/or linking to is highly inappropriate. Moderators will not censor, edit or remove links from members' posts simply because members disagree with web page content.

You guys are free to carry on heated debates and discussions and rip each others points to pieces, but the moment your remarks become personal, you will be modded for breaking our "Be Nice" rule.

If you feel someone has crossed the line, use the Report Button or PM one of the forum mods, but please refrain from posting your intentions to report a post. Getting into a personal argument on the internet is not only pointless , it will earn you a ban from the Muggle Underground forum. sad.gif

So, keep your cool. Make your points. Don't let yourself be baited. Remember that it's not your job in life to change how other people think. And have fun!
