I'm a senior in college and president of my campus's Harry Potter club. I would really like to try and raise money to donate to the crisis in Haiti, but I need some ideas about what we could do as a fundraiser. There are a lot of rules set by the school about what we can do, one of which is that we can't use any of the club's funds to start a fundraiser. So basically, I need some ideas to get people to donate money that don't require a budget. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

Fundraising activities usually have some initial cost. Even the old standbys of car washes or bake sales require the purchase of supplies or ingredients unless you can talk someone into donating what you need.
You could provide a service (doing laundry, tutoring, cleaning) in return for a donation, but this could potentially put club members at personal risk if meeting alone with strange donors. What about approaching a local charity that is already collecting money or supplies to send to Haiti and asking how you can help? Be the middleman and help them collect. Put up posters and fliers (cheap enough to buy personally and not use club funds) or see if the college paper will run a free ad since it's charitable. Since you're an HP club, what if you guys read the books out loud and straight through in the student commons or something? Get people to donate money for each hour you guys read without stopping. Good luck! Hopefully someone will come along with good ideas for you. |

Or threaten to not stop until you reach a certain amount And yeah, I think being sponsered to do something is probably one of the cheapest things. Eg. a walk, or wear something silly like PJs or pink. Maybe help pick up litter? That would involve equipment, but maybe the staff would let you borrow some. Or if someone plays an instrument maybe they could busk? -------------------- '"Tiddles!" bellowed Moist. He wished he hadn't. It'll probably take longer to raise money, but Haiti is going to need donations for a long time to come. This post has been edited by Pleione: Jan 27 2010, 12:44 AM |

Do a play or a talent contest type thing. Charge a reasonable price for admission tickets, maybe have a raffle (get people to donate prizes)
