It is only in CoS that we get to see a lot of Ginny for the first time. Earlier, we knew her just as a red-headed little girl eager to go to school with her elder brothers and also equally (if not more) eager to have a look at Harry Potter - the boy with hair as dark as a blackboard and the rest of it. lol.gif Did you like Ginny in CoS, and continue to like her as the series advanced, or did something change ?

Harry's feelings towards her definitely changed - she went from being Ron's little sister to a soulmate. Was Ginny's initial interest in Harry merely curiosity ? That would be natural of course, but ..... 'I wish he was mine, he's really divine...' - that certainly is not just curiosity, what do you think ? And why did she like Harry so strongly ? Was it because of all the stories about Voldemort meeting his match in Harry, or his looks, or his obvious niceness, or his courageous deeds sure to have been extolled by Ron after PS/SS, or all of these ? ponder.gif

She had a harrowing first year and was almost killed because she trusted someone she didn't know. Why do suppose she felt so insecure and preferred to pour out her feelings in a diary rather than discuss it with someone ? All went well in the end with the object of her adoration saving her life; but would things have been any different if Ron, and her other brothers hadn't been 'insensitive warts' ?

Speaking of change, Ginny changed a lot too. From the little girl who blushed whenever Harry spoke to her, she grew into a young woman who was secure enough to try and smooth things between Harry and Cho knowing well that her heart was for Harry alone. Not only that, she became a skilled exponent of the bat-bogey hexbiggrin.gif, well, that too, but a feisty chaser and gutsy fighter who didn't hesitate to join in a fight against DEs. Did she show any of these qualities that early on in CoS ?

And of course, the big question that was eventually answered by Jo - will Harry and Ginny hook up ? We know now that they did have a happy marriage, but did anyone know for certain before DH, or even HBP ? Were you rooting for Ginny silently ? I was !

I loved the poem that she wrote, it shall forever rule.

I love Ginny and always have. Her 11 year old's school girl crush on Harry was adorable, and her valentine poem was so funny. Harry liked her as Ron's kid sister in the beginning, but it took him awhile to start noticing girls. I always hoped that they would wind up together. In the beginning I felt that way simply because it would make Harry a member of the Weasley family officially. Later on I just thought that they were made for each other.

I've always liked Ginny, mainly because I thought it was cool that she had that many older brothers. smile.gif Besides that, she seemed like a nice person. I, too, was rooting silently for her and Harry to get together. biggrin.gif
Natasha_0805, that poem was pretty cool. I never would have been that brave as to send something like that when I was 11! smile.gif

I always liked Ginny, but I didn't think of her as a girlfriend to Harry for awhile. Actually, I wasn't tuned into relationships anymore than Harry was for the first three books. I think I just assumed that Harry and Hermione would eventually get together, because they got along so well, and were such good friends. However, by the fourth book, I knew better. Harry was now looking at girls and it wasn't Hermione, and Ron was exhibiting all the signs of dog in the manger. So, when I loked around for Harry, I found Ginny, and I thought she would be perfect for him.

Of course, Harry wasn't seeing it my way for two more years, but finally, Mr Oblivious tuned into the right one for him, and Ginny, after dating two other boys, knew that it was definitely Harry for her. That made me very happy.

Ginny had always been sweet, and full of fun. Even when she was shy with Harry, they would exchange amused glances over things that tickled their sense of humor. On Hermione's advice, Ginny started dating other boys instead of pining after Harry. This made her more comfortable with him, and they became better friends. She grew in self confidence, and in popularity. As shown in OOTP, Ginny was also able to step on Harry when he was being unreasonable, something that Ron and Hermione were unable to do. We are talking of two people that are perfect for each other.

I was a bit like you sver/nor. I assumed that it would be Harry/Hermione for the first few books just because that was usually how it was done. But when it became obvious that it was Ron/Hermione I went looking for a partner for Harry and remembered Ginny. And I decided that they really were a good match.

Still, here in CoS she was just Ron's little sister. I thought her crush on Harry was cute, but just a bit Colin Creevey-esque for me to take really seriously. I did think maybe once that it was cute and that it would be sweet if he forgot Hermione and found Ginny, but I was still focussed on Harry/Hermione too much.

She didn't seem too much like the confident girl she becomes later here. I can remember her twisting her fingers together and rocking like dobby, and also bursting into tears about all the Heir of Slytherin stuff going on. There is a reason for this, of course, but it still makes her look unsecure and a little bit wussy. She gets better in the next book ... but here she's under a spell and it casts a gloom on her personality.

I have to say that my opinion of Ginny became more and more positive as the series went on. It was rewarding to see her progress from a shy little girl with a crush on Harry to a confident young woman. IMO she came into her own in OoTP by taking Harry to task about not seeking her advice about possesion, and her introducing the trio to Luna. All she needs to say is "she's alright" and it shows not only how confident she is but how sensitive she is as well. I mean I think she must have also thought Luna a bit odd, but still accepting of her eccentricity and saw Luna for the smart wonderful person she is. Despite being an increasingly popular girl, she wasn't a snob. I can see a lot of similarities between her and Lily in that respect.

I also liked the way she increasingly became regarded as a skilled witch as well. I only wish we could have seen more. Eventhough still young, I wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of her bat-bogey curse.

As far as her and Harry, well I was rooting for her. I loved the scene where they get together in HPB and I actually was a bit mad at Harry for breaking it off at the end though I understand why he did it, but I really did feel for her. I was thrilled that they finally did end up together. I think she has he right amount of humor, strength, and smarts to match "the Boy who lived."

I loved Ginny since the moment we saw her at the train station in PS and I thought at that moment her and Harry belonged together. In this book, however, I decided that maybe they didn't belong together. As tinagin said, Ginny seemed very week and just so young. I pushed the thought of Harry/Ginny to the back of my mind. On a reread of CoS, when I knew what Ginny was going through, I started to see the strength in her. It was actually extremely brave and create of Ginny to write a poem for Harry. In CoS this social bravery and creativity are very immature, but they are hints of what is to come.

Well, I have a slightly different perspective since I only read the books a few months ago. (All of them in two weeks.) This was after DH was out and since I was spoiled for everything, I already knew it would be Ron/Hermione and Ginny/Harry.

That said, I could easily see the Ginny/Harry from almost the beginning and definitely with CoS. The entire thing with Harry rescuing Ginny from the Basilik is very "fairytale-like". The brave knight with his sword slays the monster and rescues the sleeping maiden. What a story they'll have to tell their kids! (Though they'd probably want to leave the entire bits about being possessed out until the kids are older.)
