It is only in CoS that we get to see a lot of Ginny for the first time. Earlier, we knew her just as a red-headed little girl eager to go to school with her elder brothers and also equally (if not more) eager to have a look at Harry Potter - the boy with hair as dark as a blackboard and the rest of it.
Harry's feelings towards her definitely changed - she went from being Ron's little sister to a soulmate. Was Ginny's initial interest in Harry merely curiosity ? That would be natural of course, but ..... 'I wish he was mine, he's really divine...' - that certainly is not just curiosity, what do you think ? And why did she like Harry so strongly ? Was it because of all the stories about Voldemort meeting his match in Harry, or his looks, or his obvious niceness, or his courageous deeds sure to have been extolled by Ron after PS/SS, or all of these ? She had a harrowing first year and was almost killed because she trusted someone she didn't know. Why do suppose she felt so insecure and preferred to pour out her feelings in a diary rather than discuss it with someone ? All went well in the end with the object of her adoration saving her life; but would things have been any different if Ron, and her other brothers hadn't been 'insensitive warts' ? Speaking of change, Ginny changed a lot too. From the little girl who blushed whenever Harry spoke to her, she grew into a young woman who was secure enough to try and smooth things between Harry and Cho knowing well that her heart was for Harry alone. Not only that, she became a And of course, the big question that was eventually answered by Jo - will Harry and Ginny hook up ? We know now that they did have a happy marriage, but did anyone know for certain before DH, or even HBP ? Were you rooting for Ginny silently ? I was !
