I don't like when the same actor gets nominated twice because it hurts their chances. Leonardo obviously did a better job in The Departed, so why not just nominated him for that? Though I don't think he's going to win it, you still want it to be a close race.
Flags of Our Fathers was not a good enough film to be put under Best Director. Again, Clint Eastwood is up against himself. On one hand you're saying he's great and on the other hand, it can split him vote. I really think it's time for Scorsese to pick up some awards. Also, Mel Gibson should've been nominated. Apocalypto was fantastic. Dame Helen Mirren is up against herself in best actress in a mini-series. How great is it going to be when she gets the Golden Globe for best actress in a mini-series and motion picture? She deserves it. Dexter should've gotten the best television drama nomination over Grey's Anatomy. Now, I've watched Grey's since the beginning, but it has now become a guilty pleasure rather than a quality show. I hope the win goes to Heroes. More on Grey's... I dont understand how Patrick Dempsey keeps getting nominated. All he does is smirk and flirt with Meredith. He's up against Hugh Laurie, Michael C. Hall, and Kiefer Sutherland! It just doesn't make sense. I hope the Office wins but Ugly Betty might be its real competition. For some reason or another people like that show. -------------------- ![]() ![]() "Severus...please..." |

This year was awful for movies. Pirates of the caribbean, Borat, Superman Returns, Flushed Away, Happy Feet, and the Departed are the only remotely interesting films released this year. Flushed Away shoudl have been nominated, it was even better than Happy Feet (then again, I understood all the references ...

I hope Will Ferrell wins for his role in Stranger Than Fiction, since that role was quite the opposite of nearly everything else he's done and he excelled at it.
I'm actually a little surprised Heroes and Ugly Betty got nominated, because they hardly ever nominate new shows, although I personally think Heroes is probably deserving (and Masi Oka definitely is). I thought Hugh Jackman in The Prestige might've warranted a nomination at least, but apparently the movie got none. The hardest one to choose for me is Best Actor in a Comedy Series, as I like all 5 guys nominated. Sarah Paulson deserves the Best Supporting Actress in a TV series, as she steals most of the scenes she's in and plays a very difficult character to nail down. The Nominees:
BEST MOTION PICTURE DRAMA BABEL - I think this one might win. I wanted to get it when it's on DVD. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE DRAMA MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL SHERRYBABY - I would like her to win. Shame this film did not get more distribution. I have seen clips from it which were quite powerful. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL MERYL STREEP THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and has already many of these statues at home. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL JOHNNY DEPP PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST - even though he might not win, I like that he was nominated. BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM PAN'S LABYRINTH (MEXICO). I am rooting for Guellermo Del Toro to win. I still admire the fact that he filmed it in Spanish, when he could have done an English language version. I have great respect for him for sticking to his cultural roots on this one. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE ADRIANA BARRAZA BABEL RINKO KIKUCHI BABEL either one might win. I heard BABEL had some powerful perforrmances. BEST DIRECTOR - MOTION PICTURE ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ INARRITU BABEL. I hope he wins. BEST SCREENPLAY - MOTION PICTURE GUILLERMO ARRIAGA BABEL. I also hope he wins. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES DRAMA PATRICIA ARQUETTE MEDIUM. I still like that she was nominated. She might win. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA KIEFER SUTHERLAND 24. I think he would get this award just for making this series push the way we take in visual and factual information for a television series. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES - COMEDY OR MUSICAL FELICITY HUFFMAN DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - I just want to see her win this award. I think she's a great actress. BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION BLEAK HOUSE (PBS). I couldn't get enough of this series. They made you get so invovled for a Charles Dickens story. Considering there are so many different British takes on Charles Dickens - I think this was one of the higher quality one. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION GILLIAN ANDERSON BLEAK HOUSE. I thought she was great in this series. The rest - well, it wasn't a great year for TV or Film. Cheers, Helyx This post has been edited by helyx: Dec 16 2006, 01:58 PM |

My Picks
BEST MOTION PICTURE DRAMA THE DEPARTED - The star actors and director might make this the one to beat. Babel has a chance, but I can't see it grabbing the statue. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE DRAMA HELEN MIRREN THE QUEEN - And I'm willing to put money on it. She gives an incredible performance. I, too, love Maggie Gyllenhaal though. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE DRAMA FOREST WHITAKER THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND - I've been hearing so much buzz about his performance. It's whether or not his studio will back him financially. I would also love Will Smith or Leonardo Dicaprio winning the award. Tough category BEST MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL BORAT or LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL ANNETTE BENING RUNNING WITH SCISSORS - But the movie was awful so I'm not sure how much that will come into play. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY OR MUSICAL SACHA BARON COHEN BORAT or AARON ECKHART THANK YOU FOR SMOKING BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM CARS I cant choose. All three have pros and cons. Maybe Cars. BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM APOCALYPTO or LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA - I've seen Apocalypto and it's great, but Letters From Iwo Jima is getting a lot of buzz. It hasnt been released yet, so I really cant confirm if its amazing or not. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE CATE BLANCHETT NOTES ON A SCANDAL or JENNIFER HUDSON DREAMGIRLS - Cate is a veteran so that might help her, but Jennifer has a lot of hype around her performance. It might be because she's never acted before and does a great job. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE EDDIE MURPHY DREAMGIRLS BEST DIRECTOR - MOTION PICTURE MARTIN SCORSESE THE DEPARTED BEST SCREENPLAY - MOTION PICTURE This one is pretty hard. My pick.... GUILLERMO ARRIAGA BABEL BEST TELEVISION SERIES DRAMA HEROES or 24 - Now, is it for the season of 24 that's premiering in January? BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES DRAMA PATRICIA ARQUETTE MEDIUM BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA I'd love to see it go to Huge Laurie, but I'm sure Kiefer Sutherland will get it again. Michael C. Hall does a great job on Dexter too. BEST TELEVISION SERIES - COMEDY OR MUSICAL THE OFFICE BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES - COMEDY OR MUSICAL Hmmm......I don't know. America Ferrera? Just because people love that show, but I really have no clue. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - COMEDY OR MUSICAL QUOTE The hardest one to choose for me is Best Actor in a Comedy Series, as I like all 5 guys nominated. Agreed! Alec Baldwin is great in 30 Rock but there might not be enough of him in the show. Zach Braff is great and is also leaving, so it might be a farewell Golden Globe. Steve Carell is Steven Carell. Tony Shalhoub is great as Monk, but he already has a few awards. BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION ELIZABETH I - I love this mini-series, but I wouldn't mind if Bleak House wins. They're both amazing. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION HELEN MIRREN ELIZABETH I - It's possible she won't receive it because she most likely will win the Globe for best actress in a motion picture. Again, I wouldn't mind Gillian Anderson getting it, but I really think Helen Mirren will pick up both awards. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION No idea. BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION MASI OKA HEROES -------------------- ![]() ![]() "Severus...please..." |
