I don't like clutter. Google is so crisp and clean...and if you like clutter? Just add some.

Yahoo does have a clutter free page (http://nz.search.yahoo.com/), and yet it doesn't have very good design - it doesn't manage to be clear and unbland at the same time.

Google's integrated search functions seem to be much broader than Yahoo's - not only can you search for websites on its main page, but a whole lot more:

Yahoo and Google seem to be on equal footing with basic mathematics:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=2+%2B+7&meta=
http://nz.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0o...UTF-8&rd=r1

But Yahoo fails to go any further:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=8%21&meta=
http://nz.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0o...UTF-8&rd=r1

Google can even do a bit of complex algebra:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q...29%29&meta=

In reply to the person who noted Yahoo's good currency conversion features...Google's is implemented right into its main search page:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q...o+NZD&meta=

And try converting cups to US teaspoons:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?source=ig&a...poons&meta=

And where Yahoo has search features for images, news and videos (plus an interesting looking API thing), Google has search for those, plus books, scholarly articles, directory search...

Of course, Google isn't just about searching. I'm sure Yahoo has a few good apps - I don't know much about them - but I would be surprised if it had a trends page, a earth and sky mapping tool, a virtual world, a simple online document suite...and an APril fools joke every year. biggrin.gif

Google

I have all the convenience websites I need stored in my Favourites, from movie times to weather reports, my email acconuts are Hotmail and Eircom. I don't need these things provided, all I require is a simple search engine and that's what you get with Google. I far prefer the design, it's neat and uncluttered. I also image search alot and Google far surpasses Yahoo in this area.

Plus Google also offers it's services as gaeilge(in Irish)! I never use it but I like the gesture tongue.gif

for me, google is the best for searches and practically anything, except email. i mean ive never had gmail but i am happy with my yahoo account and dont really plan to change soon. YIM is also good, esp. as now i got the new version on which i can add contacts from windows live etc. so its a tie for me, tho google does have much more options smile.gif maby i'll get gmail.

does anyone reccomend?

I prefer yahoo mail just because that's what I've used for a while, besides functions like google docs, gmail doesn't offer that much more than yahoo IMO. Switching emails is never fun, you have to change settings on websites, not to mention let everyone know about the change, and so I would stay with yahoo (and I do).

I think their both as good as eachother, they both do the same job's.

I only use them for searching obviously but i can't really find how one is better than the other as i've never found that one can't find what i'm searching for and had to refer to the other.
