Halloween is a perfect time of year to dig out the Harry Potter costumes you normally wear at conventions... or to make some more! So, are you dressing up as a Hogwarts student this year? Or perhaps as Hedwig? Are you putting a scar on your newborn's forehead so he'll look like baby Harry?

I'd love to hear what good HP costuming ideas you all have for this year... or the ones you've had in passed years! And of course, if you have questions or need advice on your costume, that would be the right place to ask them!!

I'm probably not doing anything this Halloween, but I do have Ravenclaw robes that need redoing. Maybe I'll try to find the time to do that before Halloween and put them on in my office (which is in my house, which means no one will see me tongue.gif) just for fun!

I had a brilliant Moaning Myrtle costume last Halloween, and I don't think I can top it this year.
I've decided to go as Bellatrix Lestrange, with a cape-like cloak, pale make-up with goth-like eyes and black hair, inspired by this drawing of Bellatrix --> http://www.nasubionna.net/hp/book5/iknowyouhave.html
I like being evil, however I am going to a dress-up event at a theme park for Halloween, so I'll be screaming my head off, looking really death-eaterish. doh.gif

Aww that sounds really good. I had thought of doing that too but I already look to much like her ( no one would probably see the difference sad.gif ) ... what with my dark hair and uber pale skin. (probably from being inside spending too much time on leaky type.gif ) I honestly need to get outside!

Moaning Myrtle would be a perfect costume for me. My dad always says that I am Myrtle, no matter how many times I insist that I'm Luna!! lol.gif
But this year I am going to be the color orange. We're going as the colors of the rainbow and our friend Trevor is going to be a leprechaun! It's one of our more brilliant group costumes, if I do say so myself!! clap.gif

My junior year of high school, I went as a Ravenclaw Quiddich player. However, everyone asked me if I was supposed to be Harry Potter. I almost put a sign on my back saying, "I'm a Ravenclaw Quiddich Player. Quit asking if I'm supposed to be Harry Potter. I'm a girl, not a boy!"

I'm a lot older than most of you, so didn't have to do much with the makeup part, but went to the release of HBP as Mrs. Figg.

I had tartan house slippers (that were really comfy) that I found at a thrift store. A housecoat (I wore over real clothes), reading glasses on one of those loop-around-your-neck chains that old ladies wear, and a string bag with cans and stuff in it. (The string bag is really handy to keep the photo-album and a camera in when you want your hands free, and would be good for a trick-or-treat carrier, too.)

I took a picture-album and cut a ton of cat pictures from magazines and old calendars. (I would stop people walking around the bookstore and ask them if they'd like to look at my cats - then come up with long boring stories of which cat it was and what the picture was about.) I also carried a toy plush cat.

I went as Walburga Black to the GoF premier, but found that carrying around her picture frame was very inconvenient. It got in the way a lot and I had to hold onto it with both hands. The shouting was fun though!

I was planning on doing McG but I didn't have the cashes, my friend who is a ubber-costume geek (i.e. stormtrooper/rebel pilot/medieval wear) is helping me with it which means doing it as close to the actual costumes in the movies. The cloak alone is budgets at about 150-180 bucks. But we are going to work on it over the next year so I have can it ready for next Halloween... but my friend did say if I finish it he will buy me my wand and McG replica hat!

So, instead I am staying home and handing out candy and dressing as a Roman patron... from another costume I was making

McGonagall's Cat - your costumes are FABULOUS! I love being at an event and seeing unexpected characters! Both of yours are crafty & clever. I really do think that acessories make the costumes!

I did Trelawney the year before the Chamber movie came out and was surprised by how many HP book fans I came across who knew exactly who I was. I think the bangles and the glasses gave it away. ;)
