Halloween is a perfect time of year to dig out the Harry Potter costumes you normally wear at conventions... or to make some more! So, are you dressing up as a Hogwarts student this year? Or perhaps as Hedwig? Are you putting a scar on your newborn's forehead so he'll look like baby Harry?

I'd love to hear what good HP costuming ideas you all have for this year... or the ones you've had in passed years! And of course, if you have questions or need advice on your costume, that would be the right place to ask them!!

I'm probably not doing anything this Halloween, but I do have Ravenclaw robes that need redoing. Maybe I'll try to find the time to do that before Halloween and put them on in my office (which is in my house, which means no one will see me tongue.gif) just for fun!

I'm bringing this thread back to life.

What is everyone doing for Halloween this year?!

It's not a very big holiday down here in Aus, but we're hoping to have a party. I'll try to stay away from my robes tongue.gif

I've been thinking that the time may be perfect for me to go out as Rita Skeeter. She's a nasty piece of work, I know, but something about me just wub.gif her!

*picks jaw from the floor* Wow! Well done! That's such a great costume! You might need to explain it to Muggles out there (I know I had to with my Molly costume last year!), but it looks very good!

You could also say you're a witch trying to dress as a Muggle!!! Those wizards never know how to dress in proper Muggle attire! tongue.gif

I'm double posting, but as it's now to discuss my own Halloween costume, I figured it was OK!

This year I'm going as a Ravenclaw student! It should be obvious enough for my work colleagues to recognize it! Last year I went dressed as Molly (thanks to the fantastic Molly sweater Dragonsinger's made me!), but given I work with Muggles, no one was able to tell me who I was until I took out my Molly picture to show them. dry.gif Well, one person managed to, after hints and about 5 minutes of guessing! tongue.gif

So this year, I decided it was best to go back to basics and get my Ravenclaw gear out! I had made my costume for Lumos back in 2006, but I had made numerous mistakes (like sewing the hood on the cloak wrong and making my vest ribbing too tight so I had trouble pulling my head through!). I therfore took everything out and started correcting mistakes.

First, I redid the ribbing on the neckline of my vest. I picked up a few extra stitches just to make sure my head would fit through this tiem. I also sewed the armhole ribbing seam, which I hadn't done at all for some reason back in 2006...

My vest being done, I proceeded to my robes. First I ripped off my hood and redid it. That's actually what I did yesterday evening. Tonight, I'll sew the last two inside panels, and I'll add a wand pocket so I can slip my wand inside my robes. Then, if all goes well, I plan on trying to make myself a PoA skirt. I'm a terrible seamstress, but that doesn't seem too too hard to make, so as long as I mark everything and follow the directions carefully (which I should be able to do, with all the pictures!), I should be OK. I did notice that I'm missing some things to make it though, so I'll probably need to drop by my fabric store first!

I'll post pictures once I'm done!
