Lots of interesting and good ideas in this topic!
I like to think that immediately after the battle of Hogwarts, Harry would have asked Kreacher to join him at Grimmauld place (he was so happy doting on the Trio before the Ministry 'fiasco' :-) ) Harry would have had to work with the Ministry becoming an auror. He may have had to get his NEWTs (but I'm sure they would have waived the requirement for him). But either way, you don't become an auror over night: you'd have to study and train a bit, maybe even be mentored by Kingsley himself. And Harry wasn't exactly Molly Weasley when it comes to housekeeping, so he would have appreciated the help Kreacher could provide (and Kreacher would like to give it). I expect Harry would have liked to live at Grimmauld Place, because it's in London, like the Ministry of Magic, so he could ride a broom instead of apparating (Harry prefers brooms to apparition).
Hermione had to go to Australia and get her parents, and fix their memories. Then, as JKR has said, she would have returned to Hogwarts to finish her final year and graduate (same year as Ginny and Luna! Yay!)
I believe there are conflicting reports of Ron either joining George at WWW, and becoming an auror... I believe that he would have joined George for a while immediately after school, because living in Hogsmeade would have been especially good with Hermione at Hogwarts... Hermione's more than 'of age', so she could meet up with Ron every evening for dinner if she wants... and I bet Ron would drop to Hogwarts every few days for a meal. Maybe Ron helped with the restoration of Hogwarts (it needed lots of fixing up!) I don't think Ron would have bothered with his NEWTs: Rupert Grint and Ron are alike that way... Ron would have eventually been talked into becoming an auror by Harry... but he too would have had to study, brush up his Potions skills etc. I mean, he has to be able to do a decent healing charm and poison antidotes! What use would he be as an auror if he couldn't!?
So, all that said, I imagine that eventually as Harry courted Ginny and they decided to get married (maybe a year or two after Ginny graduated) they would settle down at GP, with Kreacher taking care of the two of them.
I think Harry would have given Regulus' room to Kreacher, and asked Kreacher to use his special Elf magic to "unstick" the portrait of Mrs. Black, and move it to his room... that way, no more howling every time a "mudblood" walked by. Kreacher would have her as company.
They'd clean the place up nice, get rid of the dingies, and it would be a very nice London home, with Kreacher having his own place to live and with Mrs. Black to keep him company.
