After reading the book and seeing peoples reactions to their relationship just based off this book, I can't help but feel strange about the publics view on their relationship before Deathly Hallows and the way their relationship worked in the story.

This book is basically the first one where Harry is seriously interested in Ginny in a relationship way. The thing is that it goes from secret crush, to random kiss in common room, to random blurbs in the last 200 pages, and then him ending the relationship at the end of the book.

Their relationship didn't seem to be that well developed, but by the end of the book it's like they love each other. Obviously they have always cared for each other, but it does feel rushed to me. Especially because you only have one or two specfic moments where Harry and Ginny have relationship moments. I don't get why people got so attached to this couple before the last book.

Ron and Hermoine had their moments throughout the series, but Harry and Ginny had little moments mentioned in the book between them that showed a strong connection.

Do you think JK should have devoted more to building up their relationship and do you think fans jumped over it too fast?

We also get very little detail on the time that they are actually together. Jo doesn't want the story to become a teen romance novel. She leaves it up to the reader to fill in the blanks with perhaps their own experiences of what a whirl-wind true love feels like.
You're right--that little stint with Cho was totally unnecessary. I didn't need to see that kiss under the mistletoe or the date in Madame Puddifoot's or those petty arguments. Totally unnecessary for this kind of story. Why wasn't it edited?

I think those scenes were important because they make Harry realize what he is NOT after in a relationship. He has fantasized about this pretty girl who smiles at him and makes him feel macho. He has developing ideas of manhood when reality hits him. She is false and uninteresting. They share Quidditch and have a rousing conversation that carries them all the way to Hogsmeade, but immediately run out of things to say. This is important groundwork for why Ginny works so well in his life. He has no trouble talking to her about any subject. She has always made him feel good about the person he is becoming. We all have that crazy hazy first love, who makes us lose our heads completely before we realize what it is were really looking for was sitting right in front of us. That mad rush of hormone and insanity is important.
