USA Today did an article on Melissa's book today. It even made the front page! towel.gif Check out the cover! (Thanks to KimmyBlair for the scan)

I went to the local Barnes and Noble in Sugar Land, TX (a suburb of Houston, TX) this evening. I searched for "Harry a History", I asked a couple of B&N staff for help and FINALLY the book was found..... still in the back room of the store! They had not put it on the shelf yet! Only 16 copies were ordered! I thought this was extremely shortsighted. So I have the first copy in Sugar Land, TX. There is a Borders store a few miles up the highway, but B&N was closer. I can't wait to read it!
By the way, the B&N store said that they would not have a midnight release party for "Beedle the Bard" either! Our family is nuts, but we ordered 2 of the special copies, (one copy is my 50th Birthday present, the other copy was paid for by my teenage daughter...., yeah, we are nuts for Harry!) and had planned to get one of the regular copies to read. I wonder if the Borders store will have a release party.
Melissa, thanks for writing your book, be very proud of yourself. I hope that our B&N store sells out tomorrow and that they order a lot more!

There's nothing like seeing people you know online in a book. huh.gif It took me a while to realize who Emily was... I have some idea on who some others are, but because most weren't specified by screenname, I won't get into that.

One question... are we going to get the transcript of the second interview? Did I miss it? I admit I read very quickly and was a little distracted by the election, so it's possible. But I was really hoping to know more about what was said, although it was nice to read how sad Jo was about killing Remus and Tonks. I was attached to their characters.

I'm back from the reading and book signing and it was fabulous! It was very crowded, all the seats taken and people standing. I saw that all four houses were represented, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw colors and yes, Slytherin girl I saw you in the aisle, (nice scarf, by the way).
Melissa read a chapter of, "Harry, A History", and then there was a question and answer period. Melissa was asked who her favorite character after Harry was and she said it was Ron, then thought about Luna and then wanted to change it to Neville. biggrin.gif She was very warm, friendly and an engrossing speaker. Thank you Melissa for signing all three of my books.
By the way, the books are in the third printing so doing very well. clap2.gif
People arrived early and it was nice to make friends and chat about Harry. Most people were very friendly and inclusive and I think that's how it will be at LeakyCon.

Well, Melissa's story is being played up down under. See JKR endorses Potter history. It's really a truncated version of the USAToday story, but -hey- it's gone global. Wahoo!

Come the words that bubble
Up through broken laughter,
Sweeter than spring-water,
"Gods, I am so happy!"

And Australia's Sky News further garbles the story here.
QUOTE
Best-selling author J K Rowling has given her blessing to a new book about her famous wizard creation Harry Potter.

Superfan Melissa Anelli runs a Potter website and has penned the read, Harry, a History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon.

Rowling has endorsed the piece of Potter history, despite earlier this year winning a lawsuit to block another fan from publishing a Potter lexicon.

Rowling says she's impressed by Anelli's fan site, and reportedly may write an eighth Potter book, which would likely tell the tales of Albus Potter, son of Harry.
Mmmm. Interesting how Melissa's musing becomes a "report" about an eighth book. How soon before we read that JKR has actually written Al Potter & the Leaky Cauldron?

Yes, Rita Skeeter is alive and well and writing acid green comments everywhere.

I found this amusing blog entry Harry: A History of Hermione & Harry. Or HAHOHAH, for short. Apparently those H/Hr shippers just won't let go. But the final line killed me:
QUOTE
As far as Hermione having something Ron needs - I would say yes, homework help. As for what Hermione gets out of the Ron relationship . . . I have never figured that out since he doesn't appeal to me at all.
The homework line is pretty fun. But I'm not sure why Ron has to appeal to fans to be the object of Hermione's affection. But then I've never much understood the shipping wars.

Well, on a lighter note, I didn't see Rita (although I did squash a rather large beetle... ponder.gif ) I did notice some others at the signing last night:

For Melissa last night, quite a crowd
In the first row her family, quite proud
Smiles were widespread
As a chapter she read
I'll read this all night I vowed.

As I listened to Melissa speak
I had to hold back a shriek
For there in the aisle
Clad in outrageous style
I saw several Wizards now peek.

I was quite surprised to see Poppy
Clutching her very own copy
And Winky who
Held on to two
"One's for me and one is for Dobby."

Holding one beneath his black cape
Was none other than Severus Snape
At Melissa he smiled
He was clearly beguiled,
Said, "Don't tell or your face I'll reshape!"

Lockhart was in the last row
Said, "I taught her myself you know
I've signed a copy
Of Break With A Banshee
I'll give it to her when I go."

Hermione was second on line
Melissa she asked to sign nine
She quietly said
To Melissa's bent head
"Eight for me and one for Bane the equine."

Hagrid's copy looked small in his hand
As on line he did nervously stand
He said, quite clear
So we all could hear,
"I'm Melissa's number one fan!"
