I'm starting up a Harry Potter club at my school. Do you have any ideas of activities that we can do?

We are planning on Quidditch Fridays and once-a-month movies....we need help!

Thanks.

The Butterbeer Banter forum is a non-HP forum, however, we have a great forum called the Pensieve Parlor where your topic would fit right in. So, hold on to all body parts while we take a short trip there happy.gif

Wow thats really cool, i would have loved that at school, unfortunately not everyone was as geeky as me or at least not as proud of it!

You could have Hogwarts feasts or balls, like the Halloween feast or yule ball where you could just each bring some food, hopefully harry potter related,
and just have a mini feast or party, play some wrock music. You could have sorting ceremonies when someone new joins so everyone is in a house, which would be great if you had a point system so houses could try for the house cup. Erm you could just have some good old potter debates and quizzes, especially if you wanted to have classes, a transfiguration quiz for transfiguration class for example and have a different class each time. You metioned the Quidditch friday so im guessing you'll be playing muggle Quidditch or something.
You could even have the club like the DA and help local or large charities by setting up fund raising events, sponsored readings and fancy dress stuff.

Just have loads of fun with it. I hope i helped and i hope it turns out really great.

I remember in Primary school I ran my own Harry Potter club. I made a map of the school and labelled all the rooms and significant features as different areas of the Wizarding World. This was back before OOTP so there weren't so many.

So, since this is a place to talk about Quidditch, I've been toying with an idea for a while.

For those of you who may not know, two guys at Middlebury College (University? I think it's College) in Vermont formed a Quidditch team in 2004 and it has evolved into this huge thing, much like Wizard Rock did. Teams have formed all over the country in high schools and colleges such as Emerson College, Princeton, Vassar, Boston College, University of Washington, etc., and they go to Vermont every year to compete in the World Cup hosted by Middlebury.

If you want to know more go to www.collegequidditch.com or go to youtube and type in emerson college quidditch and click on their channel and watch the videos - they're freaking awesome.

Anyway, I'm thinking of forming a Quidditch team at my college. However, it's in South Carolina and I honestly don't think there are that many people who would want to do it - the majority of them would probably just laugh and point at the weird freshman who's trying to play Quidditch. I just don't think it will be well received but it looks like it would be SO MUCH FUN to play. Also, my friends haven't been that open to it either - they love Harry Potter as much as I do, but they either don't want to exercise and expend the energy needed or they think people playing Quidditch look ridiculous.

What are your opinions on this?

That sounds like a cool idea. I would join in but I live far away. I hope it does happen. It sounds great and I'm going to watch some of it now! Sounds exciting.

EDIT: Just watched some videos and its epic and I totally want to try it. Thats one sport I would kill to play and try my hardest to be the best! If you are going to start it maybe try finding out who would play it? Then ask the college for equipment as you'll need a lot of things for it. Either way it looks amazing!

I graduated from college in 2008 and just read an article a few months ago about a quidditch team that was started at my school. I'm kinda sad that I didn't have the opportunity to participate!

Aww thats just inconvient. I would seriously trash my room if I found out that! Can't wait till I get to college (I'm at high school in Britain :S) to see if their's a Quidditch team.

That's really cool, that people are willing to try new things, like Quidditch! Well, here in Australia, I haven't heard about Quidditch teams being formed. If there was one formed though, I would travel to that place!

I'm thinking I might start putting up fliers or asking around to see if there's any interest - it would be so fun if it could happen.
