Hello. smile.gif

Didn't see one around, so I thought I'd start a topic on the iconic landmarks we've seen through out the Harry Potter movies, etc. Or maybe you've been to Nicholson's Cafe (now turned into a Chinese Resturant) where JKR herself wrote most of the manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?

Last year in the summer my family and I went away to Scotland for a week and it was such a wonderful experience. biggrin.gif I'd definately love to travel up there again! I managed to go see Edinburgh Castle whilst in Edinburgh itself when the festival up there was taking place. Loved it. ^__^ It's so beautiful. I've also been lucky to visit Alnwick Castle! I spotted Harry, Hagrid and Dumbledore talking to all the little children which was quite funny. tongue.gif Felt dead lucky to be there. The place is just really lovely!

I've been to the Chinese Restaurant that was formerly the cafe used by JKR. There was a little brass plaque on the wall next to the entrance proclaiming its importance but I believe its been stolen - at least the crispy duck is to die for tongue.gif .

I've also been to Platform Nine and Three Quarters at Kings Cross which is very cool because British Rail have entered into the spirit of things and have a half concealed trolley in the wall.

Back to Scotland again and I've been to Loch Shiel and Glenfinnan which are used for the Hogwarts Express viaduct scenes and the lake. A friend and I also stopped off at the area used to film Hagrid's Hut and the shore scene where Krum is chased by several girls in GoF.

*reads back*

i visited Kings Cross too, I though the Trolley was a nice touch but I loved that they acknowledged the books at all, I thought it was great that they put up the platform 9 & 3/4 sign.

I'm hoping to go to England this Summer so I've been compiling a list of HP locations *makes mental note to add Nicholson's Cafe to list*, top of my list is Tottenham Court Road(from DH) and of course Charing Cross(the real Leaky Cauldron) squee.gif

The closest thing is my brother being in the room where they shot Karkaroff's trial in Goblet of Fire. But, alas, I have not been to any HP Iconic Landmark (or non-iconic landmark).

I totally forgot, I have been to a HP landmark. About three years ago, I went to Gloucester Cathedral, where some of the Harry Potter films were filmed - particularly Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Its ironic because I love HP and my Dads a bit ifey about liking it, he likes some of the moviers, but hes just left Australia for Scotland, and hes gonna go to the place JKR wrote HP, Buffet King in Nicholson RD. I'm so jelous but hes only going so he can get a picture for me biggrin.gif What makes me even more depressed is that he just called me and told me that on the plane trip there, there was all the HP movies and heaps of JKR and HP documentaries. In Ron's words "Now I'm really depressed."

I've been to Leith where Jo used to live (my sister lives there) and actually bumped into her in another part of edinburgh ( I have my signed reciept to prove it)

and I've seen the trolley in Kings cross and the staircase in the College in Oxford (for get its name Christchurch? was it?)

I've also been to Lacock abbey - but that was years ago, I might have to go back now I know they've been filmng there!

I wish I had been to a iconic HP landmark, but the closest I have come is flying over London, and inside Heathrow (sp) Airport. That doesn't really count though. Some day I hope to travel to Britain and Scotland, and visit all the HP landmarks. I will probably hang around Edinburgh for a few days, hoping to see Jo, but my chances of actually seeing her a re quite small.

I forgot to mention that I've also been to Oxford and visited the sites used there in the films. The College courtyard which is where Moody turns Draco into a ferret and also the staircase where McGonagall meets the first years in PS. Obviously photos taken at all sites!

I am an uber-dork tongue.gif !
