I love the harry potter movies as much as the next guy but if there's on series I like possibly more it's the rocky series especially part 4. I'm writing this post because the other night I got to thinking and I thought about how similar the two character's are and was wondering if anyone else agreed. Firstly, rocky starts off much like harry in a situation where they really have no idea who they are or what there potential is. (Rocky; another bum for the neighborhood; Harry "just harry",the boy under the stairs) And then Rocky eventually becomes champion and also defeats Ivan Drago, whom no one else could possibly beat, just like Harry discovering he's a wizard and beating the unbeatable voldemort. I have many more comparisons but would like to see if you guys could come up with more? Happy posting!

Rocky's a thug in the 1st movie, he's a collector for a loan shark, he husts people who can't pay. Harry's famous for something that happen when he was a baby. Rocky's claim to fame is he can take a punch and keep getting up, in the movies he gets the crap beat out of him and he keeps getting up and fighting back. Harry is constantly put in life threatening situation and due to luck and quick thinking he not only escapes he succeeds. In the end Harry is able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together face down his for and triumph. -------------------- Work like you don't need the money

Rocky did things no other fighter could, just like harry did things no other wizard did. This post has been edited by Dreamteam: Nov 14 2009, 02:33 PM |

Since this thread is comparing Harry to another fictional character, it belongs over in the Obscurus Books forum. Everyone hold on to your wands and buttocks while this thread magics its way over there. *Mobilithreadus!* Pleione LL Moderator |

Isn't this just apophenia?
The same can be said about many fictional characters...
Sorry, I think you'll have to come up with some stronger links than that to justify a "similarity" to Rocky!! |

Sorry, I think you'll have to come up with some stronger links than that to justify a "similarity" to Rocky!! But Frodo wasn't a typical Hobbit and he was considered by Gandalf to be the best Hobbit in the Shire. Hobbit's also had a natural resistance to the rings influence that the mighty lacked. Actually Frodo was over come by the ring at the final moment, it was Gollum and fate that destroyed the 1 ring. Luke Skywalker was actually the son of Darth (Anakin Skywalker) Vader. Hidden on Tantoonine and watched over by Obi Won Kenobi. He was no farmer's son. This post has been edited by cooncatbob: Nov 19 2009, 12:26 PM -------------------- Work like you don't need the money

But Frodo wasn't a typical Hobbit and he was considered by Gandalf to be the best Hobbit in the Shire. Hobbit's also had a natural resistance to the rings influence that the mighty lacked. And Harry wasn't a typical wizard, he was considered by Dumbledore to be the chosen one from the prophecy. He had a resistance to Voldermort's influence that most people lacked. He survived 2 AK's, after all. Luke Skywalker was actually the son of Darth (Anakin Skywalker) Vader. Hidden on Tantoonine and watched over by Obi Won Kenobi. He was no farmer's son. And Harry was son of James and Lily, who even after death, played a vital role in his ability to win the day. He was watched over by Dumbledore, McGonagall and Mrs. Figg etc. He was no ordinary "boy who lived under the stairs". Anyway - I'm not trying to prove the similarities between any of these things -- I'm just saying that the links to Rocky aren't any more solid than the links to other, random fiction. |

I like the comparison LOL
Fantastic movies, by the way, the Rocky´s ones. Yeap the Ivan Drago, Draco, I did think about that, maybe becoz they both are blonde too.
