I rented a great movie last week, "Gone Baby Gone", and there is a scene where an older cop tells a young PI to "go back to reading your Harry Potter books."

This is the first time I've heard mention of our favorite cultural phenomenon in another film. Has anybody noticed any others? (film, tv, music) Because I'm sure there will be more in the future.

The only HP reference I saw was on a TV show, "Law and Order", I think. The detectives were searching an apartment for a young killer and there was an open book on his bed. The detective held it up and it was a copy of, "Deathly Hallows". It annoyed me that they chose that particular book. dry.gif

Strange. Harry Potter's been a part of pop culture for years.....they're only making references to it now? Hollywood's slow......tongue.gif Still, it's cool see the references.

I missed this part of the episode, but someone on this board said in the show The Office, Dwight turned his home into a bed and breakfast and was reading Deathly Hallows to one of the guests.

In 8 Simple Rules, Rory wanted a new look and came home wearing glasses. His sisters called him Harry Potter.

I've heard it on several shows....

One I can think of is 2 1/2 Men. Jake had a poster of some pretty girls on his wall (which he'd just put up after taking down his HP poster), and he put on glasses and said "hello ladies, I'm Harry Potter".

Harry has been on Saturday Night Live several times.

Vince Vaughn's character on Wedding Crashers goes into one of his rants and says something about "Harry Potter if he existed"

I didn't see the Simpson's Movie, but in the trailer Homer has his pig and says, "He's not Spider-Pig anymore. Now he's Harry Plopper!"

Oh, I know another! On Lost they discovered that Saywer was getting headaches b/c he'd been reading and needed glasses. To make the right script, Jack took 2 pairs and put them together. Saywer was wearing them, and Hurley said, "Dude, looks like someone steamrolled Harry Potter!"

Oh! I thought of another too. lol. In the DaVinci Code they are talking about the biggest selling book of all time, and one guy says, "What's this got to do with Harry Potter?" (he assumed the other man was talking about Harry Potter, but was really talking about the Bible).

In the opening credits of the movie Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the camera pans over several pictures of Wallace and/or his dog Gromit. One shows Gromit as having graduated from Dogwarts University.

Ah, you stole my one.

There have been plenty of references that I have seen, just as much as Star Trek or all that other stuff actually. Can't remember exact scenes though.

Oh yeah, [slaps forehead] "The Office" ... Michael once said, "you don't want to go to prison, because there are dementors there!" Seems like TV is way ahead of the curve when compared to the big screen.

You know, I watched The Office for years, and never saw any of these references. Are they in newer shows (missed the last season and this due to Grey's Anatomy, and by the time I got a DVR the writers went on strike!)?

There were references in Dr. Who - the Shakespeare episode - before DH was released. He tells Martha "Wait 'til you read the book, I cried!" There is also the climax of that episode, which I won't say, in case someone hasn't seen it yet.
