What I mean is this - clearly if Harry had to do it over again he would trust Snape, or not go to the Ministry. But, what other small things could/should have he done different.
I thought of two. In OOtP he should have used the floo network in Umbridge's office after she was taken by the Centaurs. From there he could have gone to Grimmauld Place, or the Ministry much quicker. In HBP - why not give Ron the Maurauder's Map while he is in the hospital to watch out for Draco. Others? -------------------- Shelob could take Aragog in a fight.

Interesting topic. I'll have to have a think. What i wanted to say was if he had of giving Ron the map there was a good chance Ron wouldnt have bothered with it. Harry was alone in his determination to figure out what Draco was up too. Both Hermonie and Ron thought it unlikely that Draco had taken over his fathers position as death eater.

True - but couldn't Harry of said - 'humor me Ron, and watch this while you sit here.' Plus, wasn't that after he overhead the Snape-Draco converstation, making Malfoy more suspicious?

I don't think Harry would have double-crossed Griphook. I don't know how he'd have done it, btu I think he would have listened to Hermione the second time round.

Good point - I had forgotten about that. For how benevelent he was toward elves - surprisingly harsh with Grip.

He couldn't have stopped worm tail in book four. A little simple thing like that could have completely changed the outcome of the next 3 years.

But, what other small things could/should he have done different. It still plagues me that Harry didn't open the mirror when Sirius gave it to him. The boy's curiosity has always got the better of him but in this case he abstained! -------------------- |

But, what other small things could/should he have done different. It still plagues me that Harry didn't open the mirror when Sirius gave it to him. The boy's curiosity has always got the better of him but in this case he abstained! I've always thought this too! He actually knew what was in it, so he knew how to use it!! If only he had thought to take out that mirror, all would have been well. I do understand how it would not occur to him, though, seeing as the second he got it from Sirius he put it straight out of his mind, knowing he "would never use it." Also, right when Hermione pleaded with Harry not to go but to check, she referred to using the fire. Since Harry didn't even want to check, he just tried to follow Hermione's one request as quickly as possible to get to the Sirius he felt he knew was there. -------------------- "The fact remains he can move faster than Severus Snape confronted with shampoo."

He couldn't have stopped worm tail in book four. A little simple thing like that could have completely changed the outcome of the next 3 years. Actually, im thinking he could have stopped him in Book 3. At the end, when he escapes. The one small act of not letting Wormtail escape when they already had him captive would have changed everything. I have no doubt that Voldemort would eventually find a way to return without wormtail's help, but it would have taken him longer. Harry's remaining years at Hogwarts might have been more peaceful. And Dumbledore may have gotten to live longer (having not gone off searching for Voldemort's past, and stumbling apon the cursed ring), as well as the other characters who died. But then again... Bill and Flur might not have hooked up, or Lupin and Tonks. The DA might never have been founded. Fudge would remain in power. Auther would be stuck with a low paying job. And Harry, having a peaceful life, might not see the need for becoming an Auror. -Ash- |

If Voldemort hadn't come back in book 3, he would have come back eventually. He had his horcruxes, and his ability to possess, so eventually he'd find a way to come back. But yes, you are correct, it probably would have taken him longer.
At the same time, though, if they hadn't tried to bring Wormtail back, to castle they wouldn't have had any proof to the wizarding world that Sirius Black was innocent. Granted, Voldie wouldn't have been back, but Sirius still would have been on the run. |
