Very good chapter!
I am interested in the fate of Magical Creatures in the last book, not only for the role they may play in the war, but for the theme of prejudice in the series. If the original conflict that split the founders of Hogwarts had to do with prejudice, it seems only right that the final, the ultimate "happy end" is the achievement of tolerance and respect between all possible categories in potterverse (excluding the evil ones, of course). But I am not at all optimistic. The Ministry hasn't made efforts towards negotiating with any sort of creatures, or towards convincing the wizarding society about the need of giving them more rights etc. In the case of werewolves, it is even unbelievable that they haven't established a sort of public health system, that could provide the wolfsbane potion for them, free of charge, in order to make any risk of contamination something of the past. As well as campaigns against discrimination and policies to make sure they have jobs, so none of them would have to rob, kill, or bite anymore. Anyway, I see the possibility of things like that happening after the end of the war, after the roles of Lupin, Grawp, Dobby, etc. had made them acknowledged heroes. Now, it is the middle of the war, and I think it is too late for gaining allies, the table is already set. But as the article showed there are key individuals that are loyal to Harry, or to Dumbledore, even if the group they are in is not. So maybe they are going to make the difference in decisive battles or situations and not as a group. Can't wait to see. Thanks, Humming-bird!
I completely agree with you. Prejudice plays a big role in the series among humans and magical creatures. You can judge a person by how s/he treats creatures. Harry really has respect for magical creatures, which I think is highly important going into the final battle. Look at how much respect Dobby has for Harry just because of the kind person Harry is. Humans and creatures are drawn to him because of his goodness, and hopefully they will want to side with him in the war. You make a great point about the Ministry and their lack of effort to really help these creatures and give them fair rights - like the goblins' desire to use wands. This could have swayed the goblins to fight for the good side, but it is most likely too late now. Also, the MoM really could have done more for werewolves, but instead they just ostracized them and now look whose side of the war they are on. Lupin is doing everything he can, but I think he is fighting a losing battle. -------------------- |

Don't you find it interesting that Harry has direct connections with almost all of the major branches of creatures we have encountered?
Buckbeak, Dobby, Firenze, Lupin (although not a creature as such, he is a werewolf), Grawp--all that is missing is a goblin. Do you think that, perhaps, a goblin may make the acquaintance of Harry Potter in Deathly Hallows? I remember something about Ollivander possibly being part-goblin... I really enjoyed this all-too-brief look into the world of magical creatures; well done! PP -------------------- OPAST, Vault 717, Order of the Holy Grain

Great insight into the creatures in the books.
While discussing goblins, I am also interested in whether the fact that JKR first planned to introduce some ancestry of Flitwick and goblins will play any role in getting them to support the Order. JKR has also said that Ravenclaw will have its day, while it seems more possible that she is referring to the duelling skills of Flitwick/Luna and the possibility of Ravenclaw's object being made a horcrux, I also wonder if Flitwick could play a bigger role in DH. (Far-out theory, I know). Also interestingly, goblins are known for their intelligence and so is the Ravenclaw house. -------------------- ![]() THE MOST ACCOMPLISHED LEGILIMENS IS NOT THE DARK LORD!!!! |

Something that i can kind of half-see happening - if it's not more hoping - is that the (Hogwarts) House Elves form an army.
I know it's a little extreme but wouldn't that be the perfect way to free them? If their master - who is McGonagall now? - ordered them to wear uniforms and form an army to fight for the cause. They'd are automatically free from donning the uniforms, but still have a duty to take orders from their seniors. They might even accept their full freedom as a reward after their services in battle. -------------------- Ronald Weasley Must Die

Probably the best essay out of them all. I love how fawkes things of ideas such as an Elf Army and the ideas on the Goblins. Really, It was a fun read and I would recommend it to anyone for some knowledge on HP Creatures!
