Many parents may feel ill at ease with allowing their child to read the Harry Potter series, and with many religious figures coming out against the books, who can really blame them?

This thread is all about giving a concerned parent a bit more information into the books with regards to what other parents have experienced with regards to their children reading the books. Feel free to discuss how these books have affected your child (for good or ill.)

If you are a concenrd parent, feel free to post questions here with regards to this topic as well, and we will be happy to address them as best we can.

It occurred to me that Harry was facing terrifying dangers and thinking about heavy subjects between the ages of 11 and 17, and even before and after that. He had comparatively little choice whether to face or deal with these things. It was all thrust upon him at a young age. It was probably much more terrifying for Harry to confront the dangers in actuality than it is for us to read about them. It amazes me to recall just how young Harry was when he accomplished and experienced everything we read about in the books.

If you allow your children to read all the books, a good discussion point might be that Harry was able to face these dangers because there was a larger goal than his personal comfort. He did it because the whole wizarding world was depending on him. Harry sacrificed many things, even his life, for the greater good of everyone.
