What if the final battle was at Hogwarts?

Actually I think it will and that the Camber of Secrets will play a part in it all. I think DD will leave something for Harry that will make him realize that he needs to go back to the school. Whether the final fight will take place there or in the DOM I am still split on. I believe DD's tomb will play a part in it as well.

QUOTE(granger @ Dec 14 2006, 10:23 PM) Actually I think it will and that the Camber of Secrets will play a part in it all. I think DD will leave something for Harry that will make him realize that he needs to go back to the school. Whether the final fight will take place there or in the DOM I am still split on. I believe DD's tomb will play a part in it as well. I don't know if the Chamber of Secrets will play any role, but I agree with granger that DD will tell Harry to return to Hogwarts. My guess is that DD will have left some sort of message for Harry with Petunia or at Godric's Hollow telling Harry that there are secrets in the castle that he will need to guard or will need the benefit of while he searches for the remaining horcruxes and will remind Harry of the protections on the school grounds. Also, don't forget that the largest reposity of magical knowledge in all of Britain (if not the world) is in Hogwart's own library and we've barely touched upon the Restricted Section. And there were too many items in the Room of Requirement instance where Harry hid Snape's copy of Advanced Potions for one of the items to not have some importance. And recall that DD's portrait is now in the headmaster's office. I think it is very safe to say that Harry returns to Hogwarts. Whether it's as a student, I have no idea--which makes me wonder how JKR would explain it if Harry were to return, but not as a student. -------------------- "Hey, Harry, there are brains in here, ha ha ha, isn't that weird, Harry?"
"Minerva, kindly go down to Hagrid's house, where you will find a large black dog sitting in the pumpkin patch. Take the dog up to my office, tell him I will be with him shortly, then come back here." |

I dunno about it opening, but I'm certain it will be a major location, I can't see it not being involved in some way.

I think it will re-open. Hogwarts has never been closed even in those years when LV was powerfull. Hagrid says something in PS that LV was very, very powerfull, and was eventually planning to take Hogwarts, but had not yet dared to do so by the time of his downfall.
Well at that time LV was stonger than he is now by the end of HBP (although he might grow to be just as powerfull during Book 7). By "stronger" I here mean not only his personal strangth and abilities, but also his influnce on the wizarding community. In those years of his first rule, people really felt opressed, there were deaths (muggle and wizard) all the time, and strange disappearances... we've seen the start of that in HBP, but I think it will have to grow a lot worse before LV feels himself to be the powerfull terror lord once more. So, if LV did not dare to take over Hogwarts at a time when he was stronger, that makes Hogwarts a very special place - it has to be more than just a school. I think it's some kind of magical stronghold, or that there is something of great importance inside (possibly in the Chamber of Secrets - it cannot be a conincidence that the basilisk coming out of Slazar's statue looked just like the Dark Mark). I think some of the good people will realize (or know) that, too, that Hogwarts has a certain significance for LV. Abandoning the school basically means leaving it for LV to take it at his pleasure. Surely they could protect the castle somehow, but I think it's guarded best when there's teachers and house-elves and students there, filling the place with life. So keeping the school running is guarding both Hogwarts as a school/institution/whatever, and guarding the students (it's safer than at home, right?). That's why I think they will decide to re-open Hogwarts. And I'm willing to bet important parts of the plot will take place there. -------------------- 'I think so,' said Professor McGonagall drily, 'we teachers are rather good at magic, you know.'

it would be very hard for jk rowling to cast the story in an enitrely new surrounding.... i think that harrys story began with his first year in hogwarts.. hence i think that hogwarts will open...... also given the fact that the ministry will try to keep hogwarts open because they want to show people that there is no reason to panic and they want to show people that they are doing a good job

Hogwarts is still the safest place. The only way to get the DEs in was using the Vanishing cabinet. If the cabinet had not of been there, they wouldn't have entered, unless they found a secret underground tunnel. This reminds me of the secret passage to Hogsmeade. Only HRH, the twins and the Marauders would know this, which now makes me wonder why Pettigrew, a Marauder, didn't tell the DEs this. Wouldn't PP have known about the passage through Honeydukes? How did Sirius get into the castle?
I think that Hogwarts will re-open, with much less students, forcing the remaining houses to take classes together and therefore unifying the students and school. It might not stay open the whole school year as I can see something eventful occurring there, but I really think the final battle will be at the MoM. |

i think that hogwarts will be a center point for the 7th book as i think that maybe the picture on the wall of Dd will also play a very interesting roll in the book, i think neville, luna and ginny will be with harry and the others during most of the book as they are the ones that helped with the fight in OOTP and HBP.
