DMC embroidery floss in chosen house's colors
  • Gryffindor - Red 815 (MC), Gold 676(CC)
  • Hufflepuff - Yellow 973 (MC), Black 310 (CC)
  • Ravenclaw (book) - Blue 336 (MC), Bronze 680 (CC)
  • Ravenclaw (movie) - Blue 336 (MC), Silver 415 (CC)
  • Slytherin - Green 935 (MC), Silver 415(CC)

Safety pin

Instructions
Knotting
Separate the desired color from the other strands.

Tie a knot with this color around the other strands.

Pull tight so that the other strands do not show through.

Be sure to alternate between the two strands of MC thread so that they will both end up long enough to make it to the end.

When working consecutive knots with the same strand of thread, the knots will form a nifty spiral around the bracelet.

Making the Bracelet
Cut three 4 foot (1.22 m) lengths of embroidery floss; 2 of Main Color (MC) and one of Contrast Color (CC).

Tie the three strands together in a knot 8 inches (20.32 cm) from the end.

Push a safety pin through the knot and attach to a surface to hold the end stable while working. Tape may also be used to hold it to a table, but this may not be as strong.

Braid the shorter end of the bracelet for 2 or 3 inches (5.08 or 7.62 cm) and tie off with another knot.

Switch to the longer end to begin knotting.

Tie 25 knots in MC, 2 in CC, 5 in MC, and 2 in CC.

Tie [20 in MC, 2 in CC, 5 in MC, 2 in CC].

Repeat between brackets 3 times. (Omit one or two repeats to make a child's size.)

Tie 25 more knots in MC.

Secure by knotting all 3 strands together again.

Braid to match the beginning of the bracelet.

Secure with a knot.

Trim the ends even.

Tie the finished bracelet onto a friend.

Smile, join arms and sing Hogwarts' School Song!

Please note that the patterns and tutorials you find here have been designed by Harry Potter fans all over the Internet. The authors alone hold the copyrights and licences to these patterns and tutorials, which means you CANNOT use their patterns to make something that you will sell to others afterwards. You can use them to make things for yourself. You can make some for your friends and ask them to pay for supplies. You CANNOT, however, ask them to pay you to do it as though you had created this pattern by yourself, or try to sell you crafts to a local store.

Think about it. Would you take a Prisoner of Azkaban book, photocopy it, put your name in big red letters on the front cover and try to sell it in your local library? The answer is, obviously, no. Well, selling crafts you have made but not designed would be just as bad!

Please note that posting a picture of a finished object on Leaky Lounge will be taken as permission for the photo to be included in the Harry Potter Crafts gallery. If you do NOT wish your photos to be included in this gallery, please PM a Crafty Witch at the time of posting.

Also note that the tutorials, recipes and patterns found here have not been tested and that The Leaky Cauldron's Harry Potter Crafts section is not responsible for any mistakes they may contain. If you do find something wrong in one of them, however, please e-mail us to let us know.

On that note, Harry crafting to all!
