Supplies
1 black polo shirt 2 to 3 times larger than your actual size
1 black polo shirt large enough to cover your head
Sewing machine
Black thread
Scissors
3 buttons
5 feet (1.5 meters) of bias tape in the house color of your choice
2 feet (60.96 cm) of black ribbon

Instructions
Try on the larger shirt and cut it as shown in Figure 1, making sure to cut off the neck and not to cut the back.

Take the small polo and cut out a hood shape.

Sew along the dotted line shown in Figure 2.

Pin and sew the hood to the neck of the robe, then sew the bias tape in the house color of your choice all around the +++ lines, as shown in Figure 3.

Attach a button on one side of the opening and make a hole in the other to hold the Robe closed.

Attach 2 buttons to the back of the shirt and gather the shirt to fit with the black ribbon.

Think about it. Would you take a Prisoner of Azkaban book, photocopy it, put your name in big red letters on the front cover and try to sell it in your local library? The answer is, obviously, no. Well, selling crafts you have made but not designed would be just as bad!

Finishing
Embellish your shirt with whatever stencils or iron-on transfers tickle your fancy.

And that's it - you now have a lovely Hogwarts Robe-like shirt!!!

Sew creative!!!

Question about hood.
Is it cut double on fold?

I think I'll try black t shirts?

Excellent question, Dragonfairy! I've taken a look at the pattern, and it looks to me as thought it is cut in 2 pieces and then stitched down the middle. The dotted line that the instructions tell us to stitch runs down the center of the hood, if you look really close at the picture.

Hope that helps!

I've got my iron-on Hogwarts Crest printed out, I've got my "Hogwarts" stencil for the back made, and will be printing and cutting it shortly.

I already have black ribbon, black thread, and my sewing machine at the ready.

Tomorrow I'm grabbing buttons, polo shirts, and yellow bias tape, and with any luck will have this beauty ready to wear to the midnight premiere next Wednesday. I'm so excited.gif for this movie to get here, already!!!

Well, I got my shirt done in time for the movie, I've just been a little lax in getting it posted here.

I made a Hufflepuff Robe-like shirt (of course!).

I was in a rush and grabbed black t-shirts, rather than polo shirts, to make this. I would NOT recommend this. It rolls up substantially, and doesn't lay quite right. I'll definitely be making another one, with POLO shirts this time.
