I was ten, and it was 2000. The first three Harry Potter books had just come to my attention, and I ate them up in a matter of a few days. I knew the difference between fiction and nonfiction books, but that didn't stop me from poking brick walls with my umbrella, whittling sticks and calling them "wands" and playing Harry Potter with my friends at school (I always got stuck as Hermione. My friend Molly had glasses and taped them up for the occasion, and my other friend, Erin, was part Irish and had this crazy red hair and freckles. Actually, it was pretty fun being able to boss people around and not have to participate in "Quidditch matches"--basically a few of our mates prancing around the playground riding sticks and kicking a painted footbal around). When my eleventh birthday came around on the 23rd of March that year, I stayed up all night, secretly set out cat treats for the owls (though I think any owl would prefer my tiny cat to a dry fish cracker), and even opened up the flue to my fireplace and unlocked the front door in case of an ambush. Needless to say, I fell asleep around 11:50 and woke up the next morning to find the cat treats eaten by their rightful owner, the flue closed as it brought in a draft and a few leaves without a fire going, and no letters for me. I still had a great birthday, and I kept waiting to get any notification of my certain status as a Special Person, but after about six months I figured it was time to stop dreaming and get on with life. that little experience brought me firmly back to reality as we know it, and I've been here ever since.

It's important to have dreams as a child! There may not be wizards and flying broomsticks around in reality, but some people can do things which seem like magic, but the reason they can do it is because they respect the powers of nature and have a huge knowledge about energies in us and around us. I'm talking about Chinese Shaolin Kungfu munks, for example. For them, the training isn't about showtime, it's about developing themselves and to show people what is really possible! I have seen a munk holding a thin needle, consentrating, throwing the needle right through a pane of solid glass and punkturing a balloon on the other side. It left a big hole in the glass, the size of a bullet. I have family in Shanghai because my husband is Chinese and I've seen it with my own eyes. So not everything is fairytales; it is truly amazing what humans can do if they hold on to the knowledge!

well, it's never too late to keep dreaming! =) although I know that I'm probably a real Muggle, lol, but it's kind of fun to sometimes imagine that there are really wizards in the world. I did used to wish that I could be a wizard, but I realised that I'm way too clumsy and I would be a danger to everyone within a 5-meter radius. =|

Just similar to Tonks I admit when I was younger I secretly hoped it could all come true and I would also get my letter...And although I'm 21 now and too old to get my letter, wouldn't it be cool?... -------------------- "Give her hell from us, Peeves."

What a fun post!
I wish I could have had books like these when I was young. I would have totally obsessed over all of them. Still, I'm an adult and I'm still obsessing over them. LOL! I guess you could say that I'm only working my current job because Hogwarts hasn't yet called me to teach. ;) -------------------- vicki

I was the same way, me and my sisters all wanted to go, I got hooked first then my two sisters, and we were crushed when our wands didn't work! LOL We thought that there was a chance but yeah, it didn't work....

I don't know if I might sound insane admitting this but to this day I wish that the wizarding wold that JKR created was real so that I could be a part of it .
