Baby Mandrake Costume?
Recently I gave birth to my first child and I thought it would be so cute to make a Baby Mandrake costume for a book 7 release party. Does anyone have ideas to sew a Baby Mandrake costume?
I'd love to hear how others might construct a soft-sculpture flowerpot base (or if a terra cotta-colored baby-carrier cover might work). What would you do for the root-like body? I have a pretty clear picture in my head how to construct the leafy, greenery headpiece.
If there is a sewing pattern out there you think might lend itself well as a base pattern, please let me know. Or do you think it would be simpler to build a Baby Mandrake costume from scratch? These are the questions I'm pondering...
Any tips or suggestions on how to construct one would be most welcome.

I'm sorry if this is too late!
I've had great success in creating costumes for my twins using a dyed, knit "pilot hat" (a sort of bonnet) from Hanna Anderson, then as they got older I used a toddler knit cap from Dharma. With the pilot cap they were bats (see the halloween costumes in Parents Magazine website) and I used fake fur for the ears. I also used a long sleeve t shirt and black pants but since your baby is so small you can use a blank white sleeper dyed brown with brown yarn "roots" sewn on. I can just picture your baby in a brown dyed sleeper and cap with silk foliage sewn on top of the cap! please send photos if you do make it.
I worship Dharma when it comes to clothing blanks for dying and costume. I do professional style dying which can be a little complicated with all the extra chemicals and time. I've had equally good success using Rit dyes; just use double or triple the amount of dye with enough water for 1 dye bath. But if you are getting into dying, it is worth the money to puchase synthropol (sp?) from Dharma for an even and clean dye job.
