Every Christmas I make a log cabin dessert using candy bars and leftover Halloween candy. Would like to make a Hagrids Hut cake this year using the same idea-3 layers of cake, candy bars for steps and candy pumpkins for the veggie patch, or make my own with almond paste. The roof is tricky, was thinking of using wafer cookies (rectangular type) and covering them with a milk chocolate frosting to get a thatched roof effect. I make scarecrow cookies using shredded wheat for the straw but don't think it will work here. Does anyone have some ideas on what I can use for the roof, that will be tasty and decorative at the same time? For the exterior walls, thought of frosted lady fingers or chocolate tree bark candy, but, am very happy to use something else as my 10 and 11 year old will be helping.

If you were in Australia or the UK I would recomend using Flake chocolates for the roof. Are you in the US?

Thank You thats a really good idea. We made our cake much as I described and the kids added so much frosting, that, the roof kept sliding off. I think the next time , would have the kids work with graham crackers instead of cake wink.gif

you could take ricecrispy cerial and make the bars but instead of shaping them into bars you shape them into the the roof and then cover them with frosting once its in place. I think I'll try making one too.
