Welcome to Jo's Book Nook, and our discussion of J.R.R. Tolkein's, The Hobbit! We hope that you enjoyed reading this book and we look forward to exploring it with you. You don't need to join any special list in order to participate in this book club, just jump in and enjoy the discussion! Before we begin, there are a couple of points to address...

Firstly, please remember to abide by all of Leaky's rules.

Secondly, this is your forum, and you are welcome to begin threads about the topics that interest you. It is assumed that everyone who participates in this book club has read The Hobbit in it's entirety, and so you are free to post all plot events without spoiler bars. If you choose to include significant events from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, please use spoiler bars to cover that information, we will be discussing that series at a later date.

Please take a moment to vote for the August discussion, and the next series, that poll is here.

Feel free to post any questions you have in this thread, you may also contact any of the Book Nook moderators by PM.

Have fun! Enjoy the discussion!

I'm sorry if this is written somewhere and I can't find it. How long do you spend on each book? Does it say somewhere when the current book was started and when you're going on to the next one?

We have been spending about four weeks on each book, and we have already covered Pride and Prejudice, and the first two books of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass/Northern Lights and The Subtle Knife). You will be able to find a poll/suggestion thread pinned in each book club that gives information about the next book and where you can make suggestions...the current suggestions thread is here. This thread will close when we have enough suggestions, and then we will have a vote and announce the date of the next book.

Previous voting has already selected The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman as our book for July 12-Aug 9. We are currently looking for nominations for the August discussion, and also the next series nomination (a series is read every other month, for example, Philip Pullman's series was voted to be read first, so was discussed in March, May, and July).

As you can see (I hope, anyway, this is more confusing than I thought! biggrin.gif) We want to give people plenty of time to locate and read the selections, so we generally know at least six weeks in advance what the next discussion is going to be.

Wow, I know that explanation might be as clear as mud huh.gif , so feel free to ask any other questions to help clarify!
