The movie adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird was released in 1962. Gregory Peck won an Oscar for his role as Atticus Finch, and it is rumored that Harper Lee presented him with her father's watch. Have you seen this movie? Do you think it was a faithful adaptation of the book? Was the casting accurate? Do you think this movie should be remade?

Well, I don't think the movie should be remade, either. I haven't seen it for a long time, but I do remember being impressed with Gregory Peck's character. The one positive thing that might come from a remake is to bring the movie to a wider audience. Unfortunately, because the movie is black and white it is considered a 'classic'...which to many people equals 'boring'. If it was remade, it would have to stay very true to the book in order to retain its power, and I don't know if filmmakers are capable of doing that anymore (Goblet of Fire, anyone? biggrin.gif)

When was the original one made? The time it was made compared to a re-made/remastered version could make a difference. I personally would like to see a Re-make.

That's a really good point. Black and white films get such a bad rap in terms of them being too 'old', which is ridiculous. But I still think it shouldn't be remade, it would be terrible.

I haven't seen the movie in quite a while and I just finished reading the book, so it's hard for me to remember which parts were from the book and which from the movie. I do remember that the movie was excellent and I wanted to read the book because of it. I can't imagine remaking a movie like this. Usually you would remake to update a movie but the plotline of To Kill a Mockingbird is very time period dependent so I don't see how it could be remade.

I don't think it should be remade either for fear of it becoming too interpretive and foreshadowing of the events that took place later on in the 1960s, in addition to its potential of becoming romanticized and sentimental.

Also, my mom's favorite actor was Gregory Peck...I'd hate to take Atticus away from her memories! lol wub.gif

Thank you all.

They Could make a re-make of it more closer to present time. with different style cars. different styles. but with the same story line and same characters.

That's an interesting thought. I wonder if it might lose some of the essence of the book, though. The time was so much more...innocent, and it makes a striking contrast for the developments of the book.

Does anyone remember a movie, some years ago, based on a John Grisham novel (I cannot, for the life of me, remember the title), and I keep thinking it was similar to this book.

I had to read To Kill A Mockingbird in grade 9, wasnt a terrible book.. although i have a theory about boo Radley. i never saw the movie untill i was playing a game for the xbox 360 entitled " The darkness".. i was so confused

i'm pretty sure they have remade it. To Kill A Mockingbird (2006) did a pretty good job imo!

I think I know the John Grisham story you mean Pyxis - A Time to Kill - it was about a black man's young daughter being raped by a couple of white men, they got off and he killed them and then had to stand trial. Don't worry, anyone who hasn't read it yet, that's the beginning of the book lol.
