Being a Harry Potter fan means many things. First, there is the love of the books, then the enjoyment of getting together with other fans and discussing and debating the high points of the books.

The memories I've shard with the people in fandom have been amazing. Funfilled trips, long lengthy discussions, learning about technology all have added to the joy of the Harry Potter experience.

Let's discuss what it is to love being a Harry Potter fan. How much you enjoy the experience of talking with others about the books, the long lines waiting to get Deathly Hallows, those golden moments when you shared with others the joy knowing about the boy that lived.

A friend told me about these amazing children's books that she and one of her friends were listening to. I borrowed all three of the first books from them and ordered them for myself when I ordered GOF, which came out fairly soon after that. Both of my daughters are HP fans but think that my degree of involvement is a bit odd. I had eagerly awaited and listened to both OOTP and HBP before I learned to use a computer. In the late fall of 2006, I got my computer. By February, I was exploring the INTERNET. I found JKR's site and then Leaky. I joined the lounge in order to be in a reading group for OOTP. Finally, I have found my heart's desire, a place where everybody is in love with HP too.

I jumped into my first reading group with boundless enthusiasm, and did the book clubs too. As I have learned to enjoy Leaky, I have gained new computer skills. Becoming a member of the reading group staff last summer forced me to learn to do a lot of things I have never done before. I love Leaky. I love spending my time here. Most of all I love Harry and the friends I have made because of the Lily and Stag.

I started reading the books after CoS came out and fell in love with Snape during his first potions lesson as he talked about the "simmering cauldron with its shimmering fumes", such passion for his subject. The next time I fell in love it was Lupin for the way he treated Neville and told Snape he wanted Neville to help him, I think it was probably the first time anyone had taken a personal interest in Neville and it gave him more strength to bear Snape's sarcasm. Falling in love with Sirius happened in the Shrieking Shack, the exact line is in my signature *sigh* what a man to have on your side. heart.gif paw.gif . Love for the whole series came with the end of that whole scene, it was the first time I've ever had to go back and read a whole scene, even without finishing the book, becuase there was just so much revealed there that I felt I hadn't grasped everything and I really wanted to make sure that I'd taken all the backstory and information that I could from it. Since then I've waited for each book with bated breath and made careful plans for how I was going to read them.

I remember vividly my first encounter with Harry Potter; it was definitly love. First of all, my two best friends, who were both much bigger readers than I was at the time, got SS for Christmas of '98. We were hanging out one day and they were raving about this book from this british author. I remember they both got really excited when they talked about Fluffy, who I learned was a three headed dog. They showed me the chapter picture of Through the Trapdoor, and I thought it looked cool, but despite their insitance that I should read it, I didn't. At least, not right away. A few months later, my school had a book fair, and they had a two for one deal on hard covers. My brother saw Holes, by Luis Sachaar, and asked my mom if she would buy it for him. She was kind of hesitant at first. I saw that there was a deal, and I saw SS. It stirred my brain, and I remembered my friends absolutley raving about it. I told my mom that I kind of wanted a book two, and that we could get a good deal if we got both. My mom was still unsure. She didn't know if we would actually read them. My second grade teacher, Mrs. Medellin, happened to overhear the conversation and intervened. "Cathy," she said. "If one of my kids asked if I would buy them a book, I would always say yes. You should buy John that book." So she did. I read the inside cover while we walked home, and it sounded awesome, so I started reading as soon as I got home. Unfortunately, my parents made me go to bed soon after. Thus began my love affair with reading with a light under the covers. I had done it before, but once I started reading HP, it became a nightly activity. I read the first six chapters that night. Unfortunately, I wasn't great at concealing my nightly reading at that point, so my parents kept catching me. Eventually, I stopped out of fear of grounding. I brought my book to school with me the next day only to find that my teacher had also bought the book and would be reading a few chapters to the class each afternoon (man, do I miss elementary school). The problem was that he was starting with the beginning, and I couldn't wait to find out what happened next, so I asked him if I could plug my ears and read ahead with my copy. He said that was fine, so between that and reading at home, I finished it very quickly. From the moment I read the inside cover in the cool spring air, I knew it was love.

"Now some could say that it's a fad, that it's a trend, that someday, it'll all fade away.
But I don't believe that. In such a short period we've made bonds that will last lifetimes.
And I'll be damned if I allow myself to let go without a fight." The Last Call, Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls

I fell in love with HP at he age of 49. I thought the first book or two were just hyped children's books--nothing special. But when the "hype" continued I bought the first one--and was hooked in the first couple chapters. I'm still hooked!

I didn't love Hp until I was 13... to be honest when I was younger I found those books quite boring...I liked Daniel happy.gif but I never imagined that they could be so interesting... I learnt to speak english and so my love for HP grew up... I'm so glad of being part of this magical world heart.gif
