February 2009 Newsletter:
Letter from the Editor - Edward
Those who have been following The Leaky Cauldron will know that we strive to support and advance the Harry Potter community we all call home. As evidenced by the recent launch of MyLeaky(http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/myleaky), your very own Harry Potter social network, it has always been our goal to provide a fun and safe place where we can share in the love and camaraderie this community is known for. LeakyCon 2009 will be no different.
From the slew of formal programming events and keynote speakers we have coming to entertain your mind, to the mile-long list of informal events and wizard rock performances we have planned to rock your soul, LeakyCon will give all in attendance a weekend that will not soon be forgotten. And that's without even mentioning the crowning event of any conference: the Ball!
In this issue of The Leaky Quill, we want to let you in on a few more of the amazing things we have planned for you at LeakyCon. Get your wands, robes, trunks, and Floo powder at the ready; LeakyCon 2009 is around the corner and we can't wait to see you there!
================================================================== Forever's Gonna Start at The Rocking Charity Ball - Josh Happy February, folks! As 2009 kicks off to a speedy start, our anticipation and excitement for LeakyCon grows and grows. One of the most anticipated events of any HP conference is, of course the ball; and we at LeakyCon would be derelict in our duties not to provide you with a rocking evening of our own. The Rocking Charity Ball will be held at The Castle on Saturday, May 23rd from 8pm to Midnight. That's right… only LeakyCon is brining you a truly magical ball in a castle. The Castle is a designated National Historic Landmark right across from the hotel. With 17,280 square feet of space and beautifully crafter interiors, the Rocking Charity Ball is sure to spark amazing memories to cherish for years to come. Put on your finest gowns and robes, enjoy a regal dinner at the adjoining Smith and Wollensky Steak House, and dance the evening away in style. Or heck, grab something from the Burger King around the corner, roll up in jeans and favorite Wrock Band t-shirt, and rock out with your friends. A DJ will be on hand to keep everyone on their feet, so come dressed as you like and be ready to party until the stroke of midnight. Every now and then we all get a little bit restless and we dream of something wild; the Rocking Charity Ball is certain to be a dream come true.

Wizards on the Big Screen - Edward Friday afternoon at LeakyCon, and we have a special treat for you. We are delighted to be screening the award winning wizard rock documentary(http://www.wearewizards-themovie.com/) We Are Wizards as part of our Friday programming. We Are Wizards is the brain child of filmmaker Josh Koury, who set out to document the wizard rock movement that formed around the United States. The film examines a number of the wizard rock bands and what inspired them to wrock about Harry Potter. It tracks the rise of Wizard Rock and lets the rest of us in on the culture that has developed around the movement. Its history, is our history, and We Are Wizards showcases that for all to experience.
Having been screened around the country at a number of high-profile Independent Film Festivals, We Are Wizards has also received much acclaim from some of the top News sites in print and on the web. Do not miss out in sharing the We Are Wizards wizard rock film experience with your fellow LeakyCon attendees this May in Boston. We hope to see you at the movies!

Call for Proposals Now Closed! - Lisa February 1st sure came quickly to the LeakyCon world. Thank you to everyone who submitted a proposal, and for all the comments on the Leaky forum about what you would like to see at the conference. Our logistics elves, in conjunction with the Informal and Formal programming teams, are going through the proposals and getting everything sorted. If you submitted a form, you can look forward to hearing from us soon (by mid-March, at the latest). The proposals we received showcased the depth and breadth of interest in Harry Potter and related aspects this evolving fandom. We are very excited about the content and are confident that come May, our guests will experience a wide range of topics and experiences that will enrich, challenge and educate. Plus, we’ll have some fun along the way!
Again, would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took to their computer and submitted a proposal. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated, and will help make our conference a huge success.

====================================================================== What I Did For Love - Farrah LeWinde Greetings, my little cupids! All this talk of love and balls reminds me of one such shindig I recently attended: The Second Annual Senior Flim Flam. There was dancing, darling little hors d'oeuvres, fantastic company, and a contest for Flim Flam King and Queen. Yours truly had the great fortune to be crowned Flim Flam Queen (as if there was ever any doubt), but the title of King went to an absolute dog. A darling little bull dog named Rufus. He was sweet, and certainly not the worst kisser I've ever come across. I don't know about you, kittens, but I find myself in eager anticipation for the Rocking Charity Ball. I cannot wait to greet my adoring public, in all their frills and finery. I'm no stranger to balls held at castles, moonlit terraces and hushed proclamations of adoration. I have had a tryst or two in my day, but found myself a single woman this past Feb. 14th. Yes, sometimes we find ourselves dreading "Singles Awareness Day," but I didn’t let SADness rain on my parade.
SADness. You see what I did there? So clever. Go forth with love and charity in your heart this month. If you still have a grumble about being single at the Rocking Charity Ball, come sit next to me and we can grumble together over a martini.
