I'd like to learn how to do all of these things. I'm most intersted in improving my HTML, XTML, and CSS. I've learned all of them online from sites like webmonkey. Right now, all the webpages I have are fairly boring, so I'd love to get some interesting ideas for things to do with them.

Given the alternatives I voted for HTML, but I'll likely read most things related to coding. Webb Programming is a vast field and I'm interested in many aspects.

I'd love to learn more about things as optimizing your web pages, JavaScript, CSS, PHP... and so on. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if the level here will be on other things instead. ) Likewise, if I can help someone else along, I'll be happy to. smile.gif

As a second thought, it wouldn't hurt me to learn more about image manipulations either... wink.gif Not what I'm best at...

I would love to hear about the CMS (content management system) that TLC is using, how you successfully incorporate galleries like Coppermine in with your CMS, how you pull in those nice little "related" articles and photos, the specific Metatag or tagging methods you're using. I would love to learn about php, using divs instead of tables, using "wrappers," and of course AJAXing webpages so they sparkle wink.gif

As you can see, each of these items could take up their own forum. *gulp* There are plenty of places to learn about these things by themselves, but perhaps some links to favorite off-site locations plus some lovely pearls of wisdom from the likes of Nick P and Alex G who've had to incorporate all of these things together?

If you type in animations in the Photoshop search at the top you'll get a step by step thing that tells you how to make animations.

Well, that's easy enough!

An avatar is a little image (normally 100 X 100 pixles). They're also called icons. Someone's own personal avatar is the picture displayed beneath their user name. To get one, find one you like, and then check out the instructions in your control panel underneath "avatar" or check out this thread, How Do You Get An Avatar for more help. You can also PM me if you need help.

Hope that explains something!

I'd like to learn more about HTML coding. I know the basics, but I'd like to get more in depth. I work at a university making online courses, and my simple HTML is fine so far, but I know there are so many more things I can learn about. (And about HP while I'm here!)

weasleygirl93, that sounds like a very interesting topic-in-the-making--the aesthetics of icon-making/wallpaper-making. It's definitely related to graphic design, so it'd have a place in this forum, I think.

I didnt know how for a while either, but I downloaded GIMP, and I have to say its a verryyy cool and easy to use program, especially considering its free!
You could also use photoshopping programs, but that costs money (a lot) unless you just download a 30-day trial which of course doesnt last very long.

One thing I noticed not many people said they wanted to learn are emoticons, but I am curious about how those are made. Any help?

It took me most of a month to learn WHAT an avatar was. I found out, painted, made a photo and uploaded. Check V

Now I'm seeking the "name" for the pictures in the place, where I have cited Eddie Izzard. Signature-place (?)
Have seen some cool ones where it said "the Snitch Niche" (In the thread (?) Team Colors) and wanted to join the choir!
Have spend an hour in Nerds corner, but haven't found it and so have not found the way to get it in the signature either.
Didn't find it in FAQ's either by the way.

A link, some advice - anything(k) will be nice. (hey it rimed - almost!)

Are you referring to needing help with getting a Snitch Niche icon in your siggy? I guess I'm confused. Not knowing which banner you are referring to, I will post all of them biggrin.gif If this isn't what you needed, please let me know, I can try to help happy.gif

First, go to your signature editor.
Then you're going to past the url of the image surrounded by image tags.

Click on the following links to find the image you want in your signature, and then copy and paste the coding that is underneath that link to get it straight into your signature using the above link to your siggy editor.

Can't help you with that, I'm afraid, but maybe you and others would be interested in a thread about how to optimize your site to show up in search engine results?

Did the Avatar-thread ever get on (in?) the air? If so, where did it go?
Love my siggy by fw00per, but liked the others too - just sorry, I can't have them all! JeffHpFan makes them awesome, so I get green from envy! snake.gif

What avatar thread are you referring to? There are many around the lounge about avatar help, how to create avatars, etc. Did you want to switch your siggy or something? I guess I'm confused, as usual wink.gif

Yes Dear, know about your confusion! Maybe MonieLou would be better off without your sharing the brain ??? tongue.gif
Well, sept.4. christian asked for instruction about creating an Avatar. I've been searching, obviously not very thorough since you state, there are a number of threads about that.
My idea was, that some Avatars, that I've seen - like yours thumbup.gif - have some personality to them, to have mine made better, perhaps if - for instance - 3 of my paintings were to "shift", but the file have to be a reasonable size etc. So a pointer in the right direction - saving time to spend in the RG, so I'm just trying to ask you to do the work for me blush.gif to find the link! sorry Dear!

Oh, well here are some threads:
Creating your own avatars: Tricks of the trade
How Do I Use Gimp? (A Thread about how to use GIMP, a free image editing software)
Avatar Help! Why isn't it working? is a thread about questions on how to get your avatar working
Moving avatars; with video clips is a thread explaining how to make avatars with movie clips, such as the ones {{Voldy}} uses or there's a similar thread here
How does one make multi-picture avatars? explains how to make regular animation using pictures

And then there's always the Icon Improvement thread and the Icon Request thread as well.

I hope that helps you out a little bit, let me know if it doesn't.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place for this question but where do people get the pictures they use to make avatars??

There are probably many sources of the images used, but you can find lots of great ones here in the Leaky Galleries. wizard.gif

I'm a regular on the 20 Questions thread, but I can't win because I don't know how to make a list. What are the steps in the process?
