I've gone through the poll we had about what reading pattern we wanted and I've listed all the books specifically mentioned from JKR's recommended list with the exception of the Narnia books. It has been commented that they are fairly short books so I thought it might be helpful to gather further opinion on how we read them and I'll put up a separate poll about Narnia shortly. Many people had requested a Jane Austen book but no one book was requested so I've chosen my particular favourite, Pride & Prejudice. The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings were both mentioned and, as The Hobbit precedes LoTR, I've included that one rather than the trilogy. Lyra's Oxford and Once Upon a Time in the North have also been mentioned. They're not on JKR's list but, as LO is a very short book, as OUTN will probably also be fairly short, and they are tied into the trilogy, perhaps we could have a thread about each of those in the HDM discussions. How do you become a part of this book club? Or is there no openings? |

I voted for Pride and Prejudice because I really want to read it, and haven't gotten around to it yet.

You don't need to sign up to be a part of this Book Club; you just read the current book (which is Northern Lights/Golden Compass right now) and post in any of the threads that interest you! Pride and Prejudice is the current leader; I was hoping for The Hobbit, but I love P&J too! -------------------- |

I hope we read Pride and Prejudice! I just finished reading it for the second time and would love being able to discuss it.

Will we get an advance warning as to when the book club will begin? I'm afraid I was caught off guard by the start of The Golden Compass. One minute I'm voting on it and the next it's already being discussed. And I'd not had a chance to reread it. I probably just didn't catch the start date.
P&P or ICC will both be excellent choices. There's only one film version of ICC, but there are so many version of P&P we can certainly have a contest for Best Adaptation. -------------------- Come the words that bubble

Will we get an advance warning as to when the book club will begin? We planned to have a month reading Golden Compass, so the next one should begin on April 19th. -------------------- ![]() November's book is The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger "THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED!" roared Black. I love P&P, but I recently finished a marathon of rereading all of Austen's books, so I voted for the Hobbit. I agree that it is more "manageable in length" than LOTR. If the final result is P&P that's fine, as I'll have a head start. I like DE's idea of a contest for best adaptation. There have been so many, but only a few are worthy of any kind of praise.

Well, it looks like we have a clear winner - next month's book will be Pride & Prejudice and we'll begin discussing on Saturday 19 April.
