I was cleaning the house today when I thought of this question.

I really loath housework as I always feel it is a little bit of my life that has been wasted when I could be doing something far more interesting.

Would Magic make our lives easier? wizard.gif

Or would it turn us into couch potatoes who had nothing else to do but watch Harry Potter D.V.D.s all day?

Or would we spend our days looking to better ourselves and the world around us?

What do you think your life would be like (be honest!) if you could do magic?

I was thinking this too. As much as I'd like to go 'accio TV control's and 'scourgify' my bedroom, when do they get all their excersise? I mean, OK apparating long distances but shouldn't they still walk short ones? We know the kids walked up Stoatshead Hill to reach the Portkey but they were underage then. Mrs Wealsey magically does the cooking and her knitting: yes I'll let her becuase she's so good she needs a break from stuff.

Jo has said there are limits to what magic can do, but sometimes it just seems all to easy.

Yes, accio would be quite handy - I do loose things a lot.

Well lets face it ALL of Jo's spells would be handy, but they would free up a LOT of time in the day... What would you do with it?

Remember how impressed everybody was because Harry dig Dobby's grave with his own hands and not by magic..
It seems adult wizards are not using their muscles very much at all. They must be weak people or fat or whatever, but maybe there is some magical muscle- strengthening solution against this problem. ponder.gif

i must be quite mentaly taxing.
you have to control and conecntrate on the magic you are doing. if you do alot it just means more brain work.

...ha; the idea of strengthening solution is hilarious. I wonder what their steriods would be like...just kidding.

...but, back on topic: I'd imagine it would free up lots of spare time. What each wizard or witch does with that spare time is what makes them lazy or not. I guess that's why they have sports like Quidditch; to keep all of those lazy wizards fit. I'm sure others would spend time studying...or practicing more spells. But, I doo agree with the 'mentally taxing' statement; I would imagine that concentrating that hard on those sorts of things all day would be hard (and cause migraines).

Well I believe physical exercise can really help you focus mentally and it can also be a great release for emotional/mental tension that can build up. There have been so many times when I've come up with my best ideas or solutions to problems while I was either outside running or on a cardio machine at the gym or just doing the housework with music on. So I think magic probably would make a lot of people lazy and for some people a lack of exercise could actually make them less focused mentally.

On the other hand I would still love to have all the extra time left over from magicking things rather than having to do everything slowly and manually. Its no wonder it was a single mother trying to find time to work on her books who came up with this stuff.

So I'd still say accio magic! - but not whip my wand out for every tiny little thing.

I think having the ability to perform magic would make our lives easier but then again some things are meant to be done the conventional way! smile.gif

Magic is like technology. When writing was invented some tribe elders must have worried that people won't use their memories anymore. And indeed, people in illiterate cultures, or illiterate people in ours do achieve amazing feats of memory that many of us aren't accustomed to. Do we miss the ability to do so? Or do we appreciate the opportunity to dedicate more to creative and analytical thinking?

Even without magic modern urban people do not get much significant exercise from routine everyday tasks. When I want my exercise I go for a walk, go skating or swimming, or otherwise engage in an activity expressly for that purpose. Wizards can do the same, just more so.
