Starting January 1st, 2009!!

Welcome to the Leaky Cauldron Craft-Along for January 2009, hosted by your friendly neighborhood Leaky Crafty Witches! Please use this thread to introduce yourself and tell us about your background as a crafter and needleworker.

This month we will be focusing on the general crafting genre of needlework, and will be learning and/or practicing several stitches. We aren't using a particular tutorial, but we encourage you to choose something from the Needlework section of Leaky Crafts and give it a go.

We'll be providing video for this Craft-Along; Several short Videos on technique will be posted throughout the month.

We will be needlework-ing through to the end of the January. Please feel free to jump in at any point and Craft-Along with us!

Please note that the patterns and tutorials you find here have been designed by Harry Potter fans all over the Internet. The authors alone hold the copyrights and licenses to these patterns and tutorials, which means you CANNOT use their patterns to make something that you will sell to others afterward. You can use them to make things for yourself. You can make some for your friends and ask them to pay for supplies. You CANNOT, however, ask them to pay you to do it as though you had created this pattern by yourself, or try to sell you crafts to a local store.

Think about it. Would you take a Prisoner of Azkaban book, photocopy it, put your name in big red letters on the front cover and try to sell it in your local library? The answer is, obviously, no. Well, selling crafts you have made but not designed would be just as bad!

Please note that posting a picture of a finished object on Leaky Lounge will be taken as permission for the photo to be included in the Harry Potter Crafts gallery. If you do NOT wish your photos to be included in this gallery, please PM a Crafty Witch at the time of posting.

Also note that the tutorials, recipes and patterns found here have not been tested and that The Leaky Cauldron's Harry Potter Crafts section is not responsible for any mistakes they may contain. If you do find something wrong in one of them, however, please e-mail us to let us know.

On that note, Harry crafting to all!

Good morning and Happy 2009 my Harry Potter crafty friends!

I'm Rosemary and will be your Crafty Witch hostess for this, the first virtual Craft-Along party of 2009. Needlework makes me all kinds of excited; It is something that I find calming and meditative and thus is one of my favorite past times. I hope if you haven't cross-stitched or embroidered before that you will love it as much as I do when we're through.

In a little bit I'll be posting video about how to get started cross stitching. This will be the first of a handful of video we'll be putting up throughout the month, which also means that I'd love to take requests for demos. If there is a stitch or trick you'd like to see done, let us know here and I will do my best to film and post it!

Happy stitching!

Howdy, folks! I'm Super Jenn!, the manager of the crafts section. I'm a little swamped by that monster known as real life right now, but I'm really excited about this new Craft-Along!

I thought I would just skip it, being so busy, but I just can't bring myself to not take part, so I've decided to jump right in. I've picked the Leaky Cauldron Sign for my design, and will be making either a project bag or journal out of the design once I finish it.

Have you checked out our awesome Needlework section to pick out your design, yet? What are you planning on? Inquiring minds want to know! reporter.gif

Wow, there are a lot of crafts to choose from. I downloaded many graphs to my computer to do later. I have several HP projects that I am currently working on. I have finished a Hogwarts Crest, Gryffindor Crest and am halfway through the Hufflepuff Crest. I will do the Ravenclaw and Slytherin ones next. Each one is taking me aproximately 1 year to finish as they are quite large (1 1/2 x 2 feet) each.

I will try to take some pictures of what I have done so far and upload them on the site.

I have the pictures of what I have been working on but can't figure out how to post them. Would someone walk through the process with me?

I also have several graphs that I would love to share with folks. Who do I submit them to in order to get them approved and posted?

Hi Susan, welcome to the craft-along!

For picture posting, you'll need to have your photos hosted on a site like PhotoBucket and then follow the directions in the FAQ here to put them in your post.

Can't wait to see!

To submit your crafty tutorials, you can email crafts@the-leaky-cauldron.org and follow the directions on this page here.

Devon Murray kissed my orange and one day he will kiss me at our wedding!

HI everyone!
I'm very excited to do this! I don't really frequent the forums, but I'm signed up for the rss feed for the site and when I saw that this month's craft-along was Needlework I knew I had to do it!
I've just started doing needlework recently and have wanted to do a Harry Potter one since I started. I'm planning on making Little Mojo's Hufflepuff crest and possibly sewing it onto a sweatshirt for a friend of mine.
I really want to make a Horwarts crest for my sweatshirt but I think I could actually do the Hufflepuff one in a month and it'll be cool to show off the finished product!
Looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress as well! Good luck everyone and happy new year!

Hi Lalael,

I'm so glad you've joined us. Finished objects are always fun, but feel free to work on and talk about any needlework you're doing as we go along.

Happy stitching!
