I'm currently throughly enjoying Terry Pratchetts lastest offering to the lovers of Discworld.
'Making Money' is everything I hoped it would be and then some (my husband keeps asking me 'What's so funny?').

So have You read it yet> what do you think?

AND what is your all time Favourite Discworld book and character?
(Mine would be Wee Free Men and Granny Weatherwax)

And to all Librarians out there: 'OOK!'

Let me assure you: you're not alone. I discovered Terry Pratchett some years ago, and his books have ever since been among my all-time favourites.
His best discworld book? Hmmm, tricky. I always come back to "Guards, Guards!", "Reaper Man", "Hogfather", "Masquerade", and "The thief of Time". In these you can also find most of my favourite characters: DEATH ("HO! HO! HO!" - priceless!), the GRIM SQUEAKER (that correct? I admit to have most of his books in German, he's "Rattentod" = "Rat's Death" there - SNH! SNH! SNH!), Lu Tze (YAY! to bonsai mountains), the squad of the Nightwatch, and - of course - Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg.

My favourite character is Death. Not only is he one of my favourite Discworld characters but one of my all time favourite character from any book.

My favourite book though is Going Postal. I could not stop reading it!

Oh, and Money Making isn't out here, yet.

Oh? You don't have 'Making Money' yet? Well let me tell you that if you liked 'Going Postal' you'll love 'Making Money'.

I don't want to give away too much of the plot (Plot? what Plot? More like a series of Knotty Knots!) but there are alot of returning characters including Moist Von Lipwig (Yeah!) and we get a lot of Ventari scenes that are just great! He's nearly as good as DEATH!

Have you read 'Hogfather' and 'Reaper Man'? I've always enjoyed the books where DEATH is a central character... but then, as I think you might have guessed, I like all of Terry's books!

Yeah! Now there are 5!!!

A Discworld thread ... clap2.gif

I'm a huge Discworld fan and have every single book in the series. I'm re-reading them all, in fact ... although I'm slightly out of sync because I've started with the Tiffany Aching mini-series and I've just finished Thud!

I love all the characters, but my favourites include Granny Weatherwax, Death, Tiffany, Sam Vimes, Rincewind and the irreplaceable, homicidal maniac that is the Luggage ... lol.gif

Let me start by saying that I have read (almost) none of the posts in this thread.

Why? Because I have not, as yet, actually read Making Money!

Why not? Because (here in New Zealand) it hasn't come out in paperback and I'm waiting until it does. I have the main series of Discworld novels (Color of Magic ... Thud!) as paperbacks and don't want to spoil the set now. (Pretty lame, I know. But, hey, one excuse is as good as another! wink.gif)

Anywhoo, I'm waiting, and having to be careful of threads like this one where I might get 'spoiled'. Which is made double-y difficult because Going Postal is by far my favorite of the more recent Discworld novels ("Welcome to Ankh-Morpork, We have a Werewolf.").

Yup I played them. Discworld Noir was my favourite!

I did not know that about him being the most nicked author - You are full of useful facts aren't you, Richard!

Thud is one of my Favourites too, Acrux - Well okay... I'll admit it! They are all my favoruites!!!
but I did particularly enjoy Thud .

Its a real shame that Terry Pratchett is so ill. sad.gif

I just looked at the website for The Colour of Money and sooooo wish I had Sky! Maybe it will come out on DVD soon.

Did anyone see it? Was it any good??? David Jason isn't quite my idea of Rinsewind but I'm sure he'll be fantastic, though Tim Curry is always a bit of a worry... LINK

So info please if you were lucky enough to see it at Easter!

Do you love it or hate it?
Hi There! I am a Pratchett fan from waaaaaay back in the Bromeliad saga days.

Have you read them all or only one? ALL of them. Many times.

When did you start? Not long after Truckers came out.

Who's your favourite character and why? Nanny Ogg - she reminds me of me, just older.. with less teeth and more children. I also have a homocidal cat.

What's your favourite Disworld invention? Oh oh oh that would be Granny Weatherwax's broomstick

If Vetinari and Death played chess for eachother's souls who'd win? Neither - Death has no soul (He is an anthropomorphic representation or sommit) and Vetinari would enjoy the challenge too much to end.

Is it Vimes, Rincewind or Weatherwax? The trunk, headology or Hex? What is is that makes the DISCWORLD great? Its all three - they way Terry Pratchett can manipulate real life and things that have happened and make them so danged funny is what is so great!

The Colour of Magic looks great - although I agree about David Jason - my image of rincewind is somewhat thinner...
