Hi all! While putting together my Felix timetable in the Snape's Loyalty thread, I had a hard time figuring out when McGonagall sent Flitwick to alert Snape about the DE's in the castle. I figured she must have sent him as soon as they knew how many DE's they were up against. She probably would have done so anyways. But, while doing something so mundanely muggle-ish like vacuuming my carpets, something occured to me. Why did she send Flitwick when she could have sent her patronus? We know from OotP that the members communicated with each other this way. Indeed, JKR made a point of having Tonks do this at the beginning of HBP. Flitwick could have stayed and help fight the DE's. Instead, he was put on the sidelines. This puzzles me exceedingly as we know from Hermione in CoS (chpt. 11, The Duelling Club) that Flitwick used to be a duelling champion in his younger years. Even if he isn't up to par anymore, he could certainly have been as much use to the Order as the DA members were that evening. Is this an inconsistency? Was McGonagall just not thinking straight? Was Flitwick even patrolling the cooridors that evening with the others? Or is this another instance of the Felix Effect?
