Disney has produced two Narnia films so far The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian. Following Prince Caspian's less than stellar box office numbers, the series was dropped by Disney and picked up by Fox. The next movie The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is in production, with the budget and script being finalized. Resuming their roles will be Ben Barnes as Prince Caspian; Georgie Henley as Lucy; Skandar Keynes as Edmund; and William Poulter has been cast as Eustace.

What do you think of the two Narnia movies so far? Do you think Fox can improve on Disney? Are there other productions of the Narnia series that are worth looking into?

Personally, I loved Lion, Witch, Wardrobe, but I thought Prince Caspian fell far short of the mark. At one point I had absolutely no idea what was going on because the script had gotten so far from the book (I had horrible flashbacks of Goblet of Fire...wait, that's a whole 'nuther thread biggrin.gif). I was glad to hear that production would continue, though. Hopefully they can get the magic of the first movie back, Dawn Treader is my favorite of the books, and I will be anxious to see what they do with it.

I'm not familiar with William Poulter, but he sure looks the part of bratty Eustace!

I think that Dawn Treader has a lot of potential for the kind of suspense and drama that Hollywood likes to indulge in. The arrival of the Dawn Treader on the slavers island and the conflict with the local rulers is sure to be blown out of proportion. I think Lucy inside the magicians house to break the spell is something they could really play up on, as well, since it is very suspenseful in the book.

I think Prince Caspian was changed mainly to incorporate the Pevensie children a lot earlier into the story. It was never going to stay true to the book as a movie. Voyage of the Dawn Treader can follow the book more as the main characters are there from the beginning to the end.

I was so excited to hear that they were making Prince Caspian... till I saw a preview and they had the White Witch in it... so I have yet to watch the new movie. Maybe I'll rent it to see how it compares. I really enjoyed the LWW movie. It is a vast improvement over the BBC version I have. Also my BBC Prince Caspian is on one disc with The Silver Chair (or so I think, it's been a while since I watched it).

I think my biggest problem with the movies is that I love the books so much that the movies often fall short. The same thing happened with Stardust (completely different author so I'll be quick). There was SO MUCH great stuff in the book that I was heart broken to see the movie stray so far as to be a completely different work. I can enjoy the movie only if I don't think of the book while watching it.

So I'm hoping Dawn Treader at least comes up to par with LWW.
