Just done a little research into Nicolas Flamel and discovered some interesting facts.
An angel gave the book of 'Abraham the Jew' to Nicolas who was unable to decipher it, he devoted his life to studying it until one day he became suddenly rich for no apparent reason. He has supposedly discovered the secret of turning lead into gold and immortal life using the Philosophers Stone. It was the process of transforming the lead into gold that also transformed his soul from mortal to immortal. See http://www.alchemylab.com/flamel.htm for more details. Now let apply this to Harry Potter. 1) This happened 3/4 centuries ago - how old is Dumbledore? 2) The process of the change was part alchemy (Potions) and part Transfiguration - probably the two subjects mentioned most in the series. 3) Nicolas Flamel had immense wealth of gold - who else do we know who had similar wealth - Lily and James Potter. 4) Who do we know that were particularly good at Transfiguration - well Dumbledore for 1 (follows as he supposedly helped Flamel) and James Potter. 5) Who do we know good at Potions (apart from Snape), well Lily for 1. 6) The 'soul' is a very important theme throughout the Books - Avada Kedavra, Horcrux etc. I don't pretend to know how this all ties together but I think there are too many link for it not to be important. The more I read the more I believe that Book 7 will link back to Book 1. Do we really know if the Philosopher Stone was destroyed? What do we find out about James and Lily at Godrics Hollow? -------------------- Is there something to believe in?

QUOTE(Beren @ Sep. 18 2005,4:00 am) Do we really know if the Philosopher Stone was destroyed? From Lexicon: evening of June 4, 1992 [Y12] Quirrell, whose body is now inhabited by Voldemort, bypasses the three-headed dog and the other protections, only to find himself stymied by the Mirror of Erised. Harry Potter, Hemione Granger, and Ron Weasley follow him down. Harry confronts Quirrell and Voldemort and inadvertantly retrieves the Stone. Voldeomort nearly gets the Stone, but is defeated when Quirrell cannot touch Harry's skin because of ancient magic. June 5 or 6 Dumbledore has a "little chat" with Nicolas Flamel and the Stone is destroyed. According to this the stone was destroyed as of June 5th or 6th, 1992, end of Harry's second year at Hogwarts. |

QUOTE(Beren @ Sep. 18 2005,04:00 ) What do we find out about James and Lily at Godrics Hollow? I've been thinking about this a lot lately. But what I was wondering is who would be there to tell us about James and Lily. So then I decided that they might have had a house-elf and that is who would tell Harry about them. And this house-elf would also be the other person who witnessed James and Lily's death. I mean, wealthy, pure-blood families have house-elves right? And what is James? Weathy? Yes. Pure-blood? Yes. His parents are dead, so he would get the house-elf. -------------------- ![]() "They were just lurking out of sight, that's all. You heard them." |

I doubt we'll find out untill book 7 is out.
Dumbledore is meant to be 150. He would have helped Flamel with the stone years after Flamel first found it. Dumbledore is smart, he probably just found more ways to use it. -------------------- Sirius Black: Confronted Death. Overcame Insanity. Escaped Azkaban. Evaded Dementors. And remember - one of JK's original plotlines was something along the lines of Harry finding the Philosopher's Stone in his parents possession (and a subdued Ron and Hermione inferring that his parents might have stole it).

Oh yeah, I remember that, Shaun. It really does back up the theory that it's all related too. But I don't know if JKR would tell us that it was a possible plotline if it was going to be important later on.
