Here are a few threads that touch upon Harry's character Harry and McGonagall - did they sink to the level of the DEs ? Harry's character and power. Harry - the Hero ? Harry Potter - why is he so selfish ? Why is Harry decent ? How can he be ? If none of these discuss questions that you wish to discuss, feel free to open a thread of your own. I have a question about muggleborns. take hermione for example; she comes from an all muggle family, nothing magical about them at all, and yet she has magical powers and gets to go to hogwarts and all.
how does that happen? i can understand half bloods who have SOME kind of magic in there ancestrial blood, but what about full muggle families and characters? |

We have heard from JKR that it's a genetic trait; IOW, there is a "wizarding gene".
Probably the best contribution on this has been posted by SeveraSphyrna in "Magical theory - Q's and A's" here (the genetics part starts below the Quote box). Later posts might help to clarify, if you're not that deep into genetics. -------------------- *** OPAST (and proud of it) *** |

I have a question about muggleborns. take hermione for example; she comes from an all muggle family, nothing magical about them at all, and yet she has magical powers and gets to go to hogwarts and all. The simple answer to your question is that Jo told us that all Muggleborns have a magical ancestor somewhere in their family tree. Presumably, a Squib was born at some point and married a Muggle. But the magic gene was never lost and at some point one of their descendants turned out to be magical.
how does that happen? i can understand half bloods who have SOME kind of magic in there ancestrial blood, but what about full muggle families and characters? -------------------- "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
