The longest book in the Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yielded the shortest film, at just under 2:20. However, this taut, character-driven film also scored big financially, with a summer-release (always tough competition) leading to over $938,465,000 in worldwide gross receipts! This makes OotP the second most-successful film in the series, with the PS/SS film in the top spot. It is also ranked sixth overall of all films released worldwide, to date. Most fans remember the excitement of this first full-length trailer when it appeared in April of last year in theatres and the TLC Video Gallery --

So, such a big book had to see a lot of deep cuts and plot compression. Yet, they still seemed to manage very well in introducing us to the new characters that the readers were dying to see realised on-screen.

This Includes some of the most venal and downright evil characters Jo Rowling ever created --

Not to mention the forming of the ultimate magical-student rebellion, Dumbledore's Army --

Was this a successful adaptation--did David Yates' vision of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix match your own imagination?

To aid in your decision-making, and to spark further discussion, be sure and check out some of the over 180 awesome OotP-related videos in TLC's unparalleled Video Gallery!

Plus, in the Image Gallery there are film screen-caps, caps of the various videos, and tons of official and promotional images from OotP.

What do YOU think about the book-to-film translation? Did the addition of many little book-canon details make up for the massive cuts? Are there any particular images or videos from the film you'd like to share? The Quibbler wants to know! reporter.gif

WEll i liked it
but it didnt follow the book nearly as much as i would have liked
I LOVED the duel- very well done
other than that i felt the movie seemed very rushed
skipping major plot points- the entire movie seemed to crammed
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Tonks as a character
i was disappointed - she was Barely in the movie
i want more Tonks/Lupin fun!!!
now the movie makers have to cram in EVERYTHING they missed into the 7th movie
if htey had stayed truer all along...........

I loved the movie without a doubt it is the best yet smile.gif

But I voted for 'wish they had stayed closer to the book' just because I thought it could have been a leeeetle bit longer and included just a few more things (like Lily in the worst memory scene) but overall I think they did really really well. It all looks almost exactly how it should. The new characters were all very very good (even if the Umbridge in my head bears a striking resemblance to the monster receptionist in Monsters Inc rather than to Imelda Staunton) and the old ones got even better. One of my favourite images is Hagrid sitting in the forest twisting his fingers as he talks about his brother and the cheerful 'he's harmless and I'm so proud' looks he gives as they are with Grawp.

I think Umbridge sitting in the hall with a satisfied look on her face as all the DA are writing lines is perfect even if it isn't in the book. It is so Umbridge. She makes my skin crawl with the sacharine sweet smiles which is exactly as it ought to be.

Er so yeah: the imagery is this movie is perfect. I loved it and I really really wanted more.

Pre release of DHs this was my fave HP book and so far its my fave film.

I think the pace of it especially at the end was great and any slower would have ruined the tension and fear

Though I do wish they'd have added a few more scenes containing info needed for film 7 but I'm sure anything important missed can easily be put in HBP smile.gif

Some of the parts were fairly well done, but biggest issue I have is how different the plot was. OotP was one of those books that was largely plot-driven, and the fact that they left out critical information from the series (like the fact that Lily's protection is keeping him safe at 4PD - I can't BELIEVE they left that out!) kinda ruins the magic of the HP series.

How does it ruin it? as I said previously theres the room to add this to HBP

The way Umbridge was in the film it was like they pulled her straight from the book and put her in a film (if that makes sense)

i really missed Dobby (though that can be added in book 7), a lot of the humor, quittich, a lot of mistchief (i was dissapointed with the fireworks and missed the lack of swamp), and most of all was dissapointed with the ministry scene. DA members were supposed to get injured, it should have been chaos, running through many different rooms, everyone got hurt in some way, and i couldn't stand LV's "you will loose... everything", or that whole flashback moment with LV possesing harry. i just hated that whole ministry scene. other than that, the movie was pretty good, with great graphics and stuff. it was just missing so much.... (though it is so far my favorite movie...)

I liked everything that they put in I just don't like how much they left out. I also hated Evanna Lynch as Luna at first because she was not what I was picturing in my head at all. For some reason I picture characters based on people that I know, or have seen in my lifetime so when Luna was first introduced in the book I immediatly picture this girl that I know and then when the book describes her I just keep on picturing my Luna. But I have come to accept the Luna from the movie and she is my Luna now.

Umbridge was not what I pictured at first either but now I love both Umbridge and Luna from the movie.

I have a very mixed reaction to the movie. It left a lot to be desired. Out of all the movies, they really strayed from a few chapters in the book. This is especially true with "Snape's Worst Memory". They needed Lily in this scene and Snape's reaction. I also didn't like how Harry discovered the memory.
The other scene I thought they strayed from was "The Lost Prophecy" where Dumbledore and Harry are having a little chat after the battle at the Ministry. I know the words "Little Chat" seem cold, but that whole scene left me cold. They made it look like Harry had walked in on Albus and Minerva in a comprimising situation than he'd gone through hell. When Harry tells Albus about the Prophecy, he says "I know" as if he's saying "I've heard this before, be quiet". I was waiting for Harry to lash out, to swear at Dumbledore, punch a wall, scream, punch the bench he was sitting in, have a normal teenager's reaction to going through hell seemingly alone. Even though Harry doesn't swear
I LOVED the scene where Harry is possessed and Voldemort's comment that Harry will "lose everything". I also LOVED it when Sirius sneaks up on Lucius and says "Get away from my Godson" and punches him. That was so cool Dan did an awesome job in displaying a thousand emotions without saying anything. Though I missed the chaotic scene, the swirling doors, the sense of being trapped, how the kids got their injuries, etc.
I also LOVED it when Harry is in Dumbledore's office and yells "Look at me" and then asks "What's happening to me?" and looks absolutely terrified.
Evnanna Lynch was absolutely delightful as Luna. She was so great at being the lovable Space Cadet.

i totally have mixed feelings on this one..it is as they said character driven but i honestly think the performance of some actors or rather one particular actress was poorer (emma watson)..i thought daniel was incredible and so was rupert. but i was disapointed with the humour. i know it supposed to be a more serious movie..but they just lack some very funny moments which was always HP's trademarks..umbridge and esp filch's scenes were mostly exagerrated. i was hoping to see more of the twins (where in GOF they were extremely funny!)..

but i love the scenes at MoM..the fight between LV and DD, when harry was possessed by LV and everything else was great..i even like Sirius's death despite being highly criticised by most HP fans.. wink.gif
