[20:10] <Poet> Welcome to this PotterCast chat in the Corner Booth! The chat is led by moderators who ask pre-prepared questions. While it's easy to drift off in various directions, let's all try to have a fun chat by staying on topic. The rules of the Lounge apply in the Corner Booth: http://www.leakylounge.com/?act=rules
[20:10] <Poet> During the chat a moderator may send you a Booth Message. A button next to #Lounge will appear with one of the mods' names on it. Click on the button, read the message, click back on the #Lounge button, and then type something like "Poet, I got it" into this main chat.
[20:10] <Poet> If you need to contact us during the chat, send us a PM on the Lounge. If we haven't replied after about 10 minutes, give us a heads-up here in the chat. OK, moving on to the topic introduction and first question!
[20:11] <MrMcGonagall> This week's PotterCast was recorded live last Saturday at the Borders bookstore on Charing Cross Road in London, England. Melissa and John talked about their travel experiences and took questions from fans who gathered for the podcast.
[20:11] <MrMcGonagall> First of all, were any of you at the live PotterCast last Saturday? What was the experience like?
[20:11] <Poet> It sounded like those that were there had a great time
[20:11] <Ravenclaws_Heir> I wish!
[20:11] <Morgan_Noxwell> Nope, was not present.
[20:12] <Greeneyes15> not me either sad
[20:12] <cbm> I take it the deathly silence was a no.
[20:12] <Poet> aw
[20:12] <sdcurtis> nope
[20:12] <Morgan_Noxwell> bummer
[20:12] <MrMcGonagall> It would have been a blast, I'm sure, but weekends are no time for me to be flitting off to London.
[20:12] <Greeneyes15> darn
[20:12] *** Expelliarmas has joined #lounge
[20:12] <MrMcGonagall> Hi, Expie!
[20:12] <Poet> I assume most of the people that were there are still there and its their bedtime right now
[20:12] <Greeneyes15> Hey Expie!
[20:12] <dsm25> Boy, I wish
[20:12] <cbm> more like 2:15am
[20:12] <Greeneyes15> yeah, probably Poet
[20:12] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, probably a few more of our British friends will be at the chat tomorrow afternoon.
[20:12] <Morgan_Noxwell> def. a lot of londers!
[20:13] <Ravenclaws_Heir> Hey Expie!
[20:13] *** Ravenclaws_Heir left #lounge []
[20:13] <Morgan_Noxwell> yeah, didn't think about that MrM.
[20:13] <Expelliarmas> heya peeps
[20:13] <Morgan_Noxwell> hi expelliarmas
[20:13] <MrMcGonagall> John and Melissa attended a number of plays currently starring actors from the HP films. Does your familiarity with the HP actors increase your interest or desire to see them in live theatre performances?
[20:13] <Morgan_Noxwell> totally
[20:13] <cbm> Yes
[20:13] <dsm25> absolutely
[20:13] <Greeneyes15> you bet cha
[20:13] <sdcurtis> a sort of
[20:14] <Expelliarmas> not for me; if I'm going to spend serious money, the play has to be something I'd want to say
[20:14] <Morgan_Noxwell> not only am I a fan of theatre and musicals, but to see those who have represented these wonderful books....
[20:14] <Morgan_Noxwell> well it would be superb!
[20:14] <cbm> It is just like going to see any quality actor
[20:14] <MrMcGonagall> I think it is difficult to see them apart from their HP roles, because that's how I know them best.
[20:14] <Greeneyes15> i agree Mr.M
[20:14] <dsm25> It's so great to see an actor like Dan Radcliffe stretch himself. he could so easily become typecast as HP
[20:14] <Poet> Yes, if they were in shows here in the U.S. I'd try and go
[20:14] <Morgan_Noxwell> I think I need to see them as diff. characters...it makes them more real to me..
[20:14] *** Ravenclaws_Heir has joined #lounge
[20:14] <Morgan_Noxwell> but I love theathre and all those plays any way
[20:14] <MrMcGonagall> I think if I saw the play I would be able to separate them from their HP persona more easily.
[20:15] <MrMcGonagall> Poor John -- never a theater-goer before.
[20:15] <cbm> It sounds like from the chat that dan did a great job separating himself from HP
[20:15] <Expelliarmas> I tend not to prefer heavy dramas for plays, so any of that would be of little interest to me--it wouldn't matter if it starred Lawrence Olivier
[20:15] <Morgan_Noxwell> too bad the understudy left a bad taste.
[20:15] <dsm25> what a bummer that R. Griffiths had an understudy, though!
[20:15] <Poet> I'm already used to seeing a lot of the actors inother movies, it wouldn't be too different to see them in theatre - pretty awesome though
[20:15] <sdcurtis> I watch a lot of British movis so I've seen a lot of the actors outside of the Harry Potter movies
[20:15] <Greeneyes15> o my gosh i know! what a bummer for mel and john!
[20:15] <cbm> understudies usually do, it is one of the risks of going to like performances
[20:15] <Morgan_Noxwell> def... especially because live theathre is so different from film
[20:16] <MrMcGonagall> I wonder how that affected Dan's performance, too, having to play off of an understudy.
[20:16] <cbm> live
[20:16] <Morgan_Noxwell> yes MrM...I wondered about that
[20:16] <dsm25> but as melissa said, this understudy was actually reading from the script, clearly not ready to step in
[20:16] <Expelliarmas> understudies have little or no impact on the other actors; they rehearse with them as well
[20:16] <Morgan_Noxwell> yes.
[20:16] <cbm> I saw "the producers" with one understudy and it was still great
[20:16] <Morgan_Noxwell> but it's ashame b/c they were so looking forward to see HIM as well as dan
[20:16] <Greeneyes15> that had to be a little disappionting, have the understudy read from the script
[20:17] <Expelliarmas> but you always have a risk of having an understudy in a play
[20:17] <Morgan_Noxwell> any live plan.
[20:17] <Morgan_Noxwell> play*
[20:17] <Morgan_Noxwell> I saw Wicked in NY w/ the understudy...I was wowed!!! I mean, this woman was simply amazing... even if it wasn't Ana Gaystayer.... spelling?
[20:17] <MrMcGonagall> Leaky has been involved with the EA Video Game Fan Council. Knowing how much of the video games is based on canon provided by Jo herself, do you have an increased interest in playing the video games?
[20:17] <Morgan_Noxwell> def!
[20:17] <Morgan_Noxwell> esp. on the Wii!
[20:17] <cbm> absolutely
[20:17] <sdcurtis> I'm not a gamer
[20:18] <Poet> Yes, I'd have never imagined buying a video game, but I really want this one
[20:18] <Greeneyes15> i do! i really want to go wonder around hogwarts and stuff!
[20:18] <cbm> I am not a gamer, but I would love to explore hogwarts
[20:18] <Poet> I've never owned any video game, so this will be a first for me
[20:18] <dsm25> i am not a gamer at all, but i already have plans to buy it for my son and at least watch.....
[20:18] <Expelliarmas> I do, but I've noticed the games follow canon a lot more than the movies
[20:18] <Greeneyes15> and i'm not a game person at all
[20:18] <MrMcGonagall> I have to admit that I'm not a video game person, but knowing that Jo has provided so much of the material for it, I'd actually consider it.
[20:18] <Greeneyes15> me too Mr.M!
[20:18] <cbm> Video games have the time to follow canon, movies are very time limited

[20:18] <MrMcGonagall> LOL Expie
[20:19] <Poet> I loved how John pointed out that it's like having a 10 hour version of the movie
[20:19] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, that's what fascinates me.
[20:19] <cbm> That is what made me think about getting it
[20:19] <Expelliarmas> and not just the big console games either; the handheld games do a good job with canon as well
[20:19] <Greeneyes15> yay for those at EA who follow cannon! smile
[20:19] <Morgan_Noxwell> I played the third game a bit.
[20:19] <dsm25> think about actually living the book
[20:19] <Morgan_Noxwell> my husband beat it.
[20:19] <dsm25> i could become a gamer
[20:19] <Morgan_Noxwell> but we're both looking forward to the game on the Wii
[20:20] <Greeneyes15> oo, the game on the wii would be sweet
[20:20] <Poet> Wii does look cool - especially doing wand movements
[20:20] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, the technology of the wii and the ability to "wave a wand" is pretty cool.
[20:20] <Morgan_Noxwell> yeah... we have a few games already (wii sports, twilight princess) and the remote control is great
[20:20] <Greeneyes15> that would be awesome geting to do wand movments!
[20:20] <cbm> I am going to get the PC version, but having wii sounds interesting
[20:21] <Greeneyes15> swish and flick sorcerer
[20:21] <Morgan_Noxwell> I think it would be fun to be even more involved. smile
[20:21] <dsm25> john was talking about on the wii version actually having specific wand movements with the controller for specific spells
[20:21] <Poet> Yes, unfortunately I'll be sticking with the PC version
[20:21] <MrMcGonagall> Do you know where you'll be when you get your copy of DH? Will you be taking a trip to join in any releases?
[20:21] <dsm25> my son has the wii, so that's the version we'll be getting
[20:21] <Expelliarmas> isn't it wonderful how the games keep up with the technology ... next thing you know, we'll have wands for consoles
[20:21] <Expelliarmas> I'll be in Edinburgh ... Scotland that is
[20:22] <Poet> I might try and join some friends. If not I'll be baracaded in my bedroom
[20:22] <Morgan_Noxwell> Just in my DE Borders with my hubby getting 2 copies and then reading them through with otu stopping!
[20:22] <dsm25> i have a reserved copy at my local borders
[20:22] <Greeneyes15> no...i ahve no one to bring me or go with. i'll be staying in my home town and reading DH all alone
[20:22] <cbm> At a bookstore and then heading home, hopfully the Jim Dale version will be available also, I am going to listen
[20:22] <dsm25> i think i'll do the midnight release
[20:22] <sdcurtis> I'm planning on going to Canada
[20:22] <Morgan_Noxwell> def. midnight release
[20:22] <Poet> I'll get mine at a Borders unless I find a Wal-Mart or other store where I can get it faster
[20:22] <MrMcGonagall> I'll be home drinking coffee all night in my living room.
[20:22] <Expelliarmas> oh, I'm going to Canada as well, sdcurtis; after Edinburgh
[20:22] <dsm25> my daughter was telling me about people who drive by the midnight releases and shout out spoliers
[20:22] <Morgan_Noxwell> mmmm cafe mochas!
[20:22] <cbm> Why Canada?
[20:23] <Morgan_Noxwell> yes...that happened last year
[20:23] <Morgan_Noxwell> dsm
[20:23] <Expelliarmas> thank goodness I've put my passport renewal in the mail today
[20:23] <Greeneyes15> i'll probably get the book at mehjer at midnight or something
[20:23] <Morgan_Noxwell> sorry - last book
[20:23] <Expelliarmas> Canada for Prophecy
[20:23] <cbm> k, duh
[20:23] <Poet> I figured if I get mine right at midnight I won't have to worry about spoilers
[20:23] <dsm25> that's aweful, morgan
[20:23] <Poet> I hope
[20:23] <MrMcGonagall> good thinking, Poet.
[20:23] <sdcurtis> My sisters and I collect the UK books and we're passing it off as a trip to visit our grandparents
[20:23] <dsm25> i'll run in the store with my ears covered! lol
[20:23] <MrMcGonagall> How will you read it? Could you limit yourself to reading a chapter a week, as one audience member said he planned to do?
[20:24] <Morgan_Noxwell> well, I saw video of it online of it happening...not to me luckily. when HBP came out, I was reading it at 12:03 AM while my husband drove us home.
[20:24] <dsm25> no way a chapter per week
[20:24] <Greeneyes15> nononono! i'll read it all at once!
[20:24] *** danae24 has joined #lounge
[20:24] <Morgan_Noxwell> NO WAY!!! all at once with maybe a break to sleep then finish the next day
[20:24] <Morgan_Noxwell> hi danae!
[20:24] <Poet> I'll read it as fast as possible so I can discuss it with others. Then I'll go back and read it slower later
[20:24] <cbm> I will put the first CD in and then start burning the rest and start going through it
[20:24] <Expelliarmas> I plan on reading it the old-fashioned way, one word at a time, beginning to end, straight through and woe and misery to anyone who tries to play spoiler
[20:24] <Aislinn> someone had an idea to have an iPod on while in line, so you don't hear any spoilers
[20:24] <danae24> Hi!!! I almost forgot!!!
[20:24] <sdcurtis> I'll probably finish it the moment I get back from the store
[20:24] <MrMcGonagall> I always read it thoroughly but quickly, non-stop, but then I digest it more slowly over the next week.
[20:24] <Greeneyes15> hey danae!
[20:24] <dsm25> it may take me several days in and around work
[20:24] <Expelliarmas> heya, danae
[20:24] <Greeneyes15> me too Mr.M
[20:25] <Aislinn> I'm going to read it straight through
[20:25] <Morgan_Noxwell> ditto Mr.M
[20:25] <dsm25> i don't like reading it too quickly
[20:25] <Greeneyes15> i proabaly won't leave my roon once till i'm finished
[20:25] <danae24> I like the iPod idea........ I dont what any spoilers
[20:25] <cbm> I did not like HBP the first time I read it, I did not enjoy it until I listened to it, so this time I will listen first
[20:25] <Greeneyes15> really? i need to read it first
[20:26] <MrMcGonagall> Somebody I know said they might actually cheat and look at the end of the book first, just to make sure Harry lives, but I said this would be literary heresy.
[20:26] <dsm25> i sped through the MoM scene in OotP the first time. same with the towere battle in HBP
[20:26] <cbm> If you read John Noe's essay, his initial reaction is the same is mine
[20:26] <Expelliarmas> ah, the audiobooks are a total joy; but I read the book first and then listen to the audiobook
[20:26] <Greeneyes15> o my gosh! peek!
[20:26] <Poet> No way, I could never cheat
[20:26] <MrMcGonagall> Do you listen to the HP books on audiotape? Does it help you with pronunciation of words in the series?
[20:26] <sdcurtis> I'll read it twice.
[20:26] <danae24> I want to read peacefully....... I think it will take me 2 days to finish..... I like taking breaks.... I dont like to read straight, I hardly enjoy books that way
[20:26] <sdcurtis> Once fast just to get to the end and then a more careful reading of it
[20:26] <danae24> I have never listened to an audio book
[20:26] <Expelliarmas> I listen to it in CD which I load into my iPod
[20:26] <Poet> I like listening to the books when I'm driving.
[20:26] <dsm25> i get too anxious to get to the end, so i find i skim
[20:26] <Greeneyes15> i do listen to them, mostly to know how to pronounce things
[20:27] <Morgan_Noxwell> I started listening to them this xmas - I got all 6 on CD
[20:27] <cbm> It helps me to get every word, I have learned so much in the reading groups by listening to them
[20:27] <MrMcGonagall> I haven't listened to the audiobooks, but from what I understand, pronunciation is not consistent between the British and American versions.
[20:27] <dsm25> that's why i just want to savor it.
[20:27] <Morgan_Noxwell> but they're on my ipod
[20:27] <sdcurtis> Although I may have a way of delayng the inevitable
[20:27] <Expelliarmas> no it's not, MrM
[20:27] <Greeneyes15> i like to listen to the audio book when i don't have time to read them
[20:28] <danae24> I like the voices I make in my head.... I rarely like when someone else reads the books for me....
[20:28] <Expelliarmas> And the performances of the two actors is totally different
[20:28] <cbm> I was in the UK a little over a year ago, so I have all 6 of Stephen Fry, and I am used to his pronuciation of everything
[20:28] <Greeneyes15> i'll usually put once on while i'm trying to fall asleep or something
[20:28] <Morgan_Noxwell> I used the audiobooks to get my husband into the HP series... we listen at night while going to sleep... we have iPod speakers
[20:28] <Expelliarmas> I thought that too danae24, until I heard Jim Dale's performance--he disappears into his characters
[20:28] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, I'm not a huge audiobook fan myself. I like the paper and leaving it entirely to my imagination.
[20:28] <danae24> I agree with Mr. M!
[20:28] <dsm25> i'm an educator and my favorite thing to do when i was in the classroom was read aloud. I like to create voices for the characters, so i'd prefr to read it myself
[20:28] <danae24> nothing beats imagination
[20:29] <Greeneyes15> i know what u mean Mr.M. audio book take away from my own imagination of the characters
[20:29] <Expelliarmas> I spend a lot of time in my car, so audiobooks are a thing of beauty
[20:29] <Poet> I've noticed that I hear the audio book voices in my head when I read
[20:29] <Morgan_Noxwell> well I think Jim Dale does a wonderful job.... sometimes I forget that I'm listening to the same person
[20:29] <danae24> but if you ask me, I would love for RyloraMcBeck's version of the audio books.....
[20:29] <Expelliarmas> the police are so touchy about reading and driving
[20:29] <MrMcGonagall> I do want to try listening to an HP audiobook sometime, just to see if I like it.
[20:30] <cbm> I got into HP by listening to JKR read a scene on the radio, so audio books are a continuation of that for me
[20:30] <dsm25> i hear that, Expell. that's where i listen to PotterCast. i am in the process of listening to every single episode i missed
[20:30] <MrMcGonagall> But I am old and set in my ways.
[20:30] <Morgan_Noxwell> you should Mr.M
[20:30] <Morgan_Noxwell> I bet you'll like it.
[20:30] <Expelliarmas> yes, MrM is such an ancient ... not
[20:30] <Morgan_Noxwell> I recently took a trip to Harrisburg to visit friends and got in two great PC eps. with my FM transmitter
[20:30] <danae24> which one is better Stephen Fry or Jim Dale??? I'm thinking of download one of the books......
[20:30] <cbm> MrM, I started the audiobooks and I am 45
[20:30] <Morgan_Noxwell> it's those trips that need audiobooks and podcasts
[20:31] <MrMcGonagall> On to some of the interesting questions posed by audience members: Do you think we'll learn some of the uses of dragon's blood in DH, perhaps with relation to the horcruxes?
[20:31] <Expelliarmas> I liked them both, but I like that Dale disappears into his characters; more dramatic; Fry is more subdued
[20:31] <Morgan_Noxwell> I hope so
[20:31] <cbm> I have both in HBP, at this point I like Fry because that is what I am used to, Dale not longer sounds quite right to me
[20:31] <Morgan_Noxwell> if anything, that might be one of those conundrums JKR was talking about
[20:31] <danae24> I hope we do....... those 12 uses have intrigued me since book 1

[20:32] <Morgan_Noxwell> that was the question MOlly
[20:32] <danae24> What we have learned is that it's reusable..... or at least Slughorn did reused it
[20:32] <MrMcGonagall> I think dragon's blood will figure in somehow, but I don't think we're going to see something like disposing of a horcrux with a spritz of dragon's blood.
[20:32] *** sdcurtis has quit [Bye]
[20:32] <mollywobbles23> oh, I hope so
[20:32] <dsm25> well, it would make sense that Dd would know it
[20:32] <Morgan_Noxwell> like windex
[20:33] <Morgan_Noxwell> smile
[20:33] <Poet> exactly dsm25
[20:33] <cbm> I think Harry Blood my do it, no Dragon's blood
[20:33] <Poet> So maybe it doesn't do anything to them
[20:33] <Greeneyes15> Hey guys...i'm gonna get going
[20:33] *** Greeneyes15 has quit [Bye]
[20:33] <dsm25> i like the idea of bringing charley weasley in.
[20:33] <Poet> cool idea cbm
[20:33] *** Greeneyes15 has joined #lounge
[20:33] <Morgan_Noxwell> well, I do hope we find out something but I like that Charlie Weasley might be involved.
[20:33] <dsm25> there has to be a reason his job has been thought out
[20:33] <Morgan_Noxwell> well she used it in GoF
[20:33] <dsm25> very briefly
[20:34] <Greeneyes15> testing...
[20:34] *** Greeneyes15 has quit [Bye]
[20:34] <cbm> In CoS it was either Harrys blood or the basilisk venom that killed the diary
[20:34] <dsm25> but we haven't really gotten to meet him as a character
[20:34] <Morgan_Noxwell> it was one of those passing things and led Ron to tell Harry but not tell harry
[20:34] <Morgan_Noxwell> about the dragons
[20:34] <Poet> I think dragons will have a different use, rather than the blood
[20:34] <Morgan_Noxwell> I think it was the venom
[20:34] <Morgan_Noxwell> cbm
[20:34] <Morgan_Noxwell> interesting idea tho
[20:34] <MrMcGonagall> What do you think it means that both the Potters and the Longbottoms had "defied" Voldemort three times?
[20:34] <danae24> I think the blood of the dragon will help, but not with the horcrux destruction
[20:34] <cbm> I don't know
[20:35] <Morgan_Noxwell> I never thought about the word "defied"
[20:35] <danae24> they have faced him 3 times.....
[20:35] <Expelliarmas> three is a great number, but you notice that neither one of them made it to 4
[20:35] <Morgan_Noxwell> I just always thought it meant they faced him and survived three times
[20:35] <cbm> That they were brave and talented
[20:35] <Morgan_Noxwell> isn't 4 the strongest number in arithmancy?
[20:35] <dsm25> 'defied' makes me think that LV wanted the Potters and/or Longbottoms to join him in some way
[20:35] <Poet> He was trying to recruit people and even blackmail them, so perhaps they refused to be blackmailed
[20:35] <mollywobbles23> Fought him until they were able to escape?
[20:36] <danae24> or maybe they got really close to face LV 3 times.... and coudnt make it up to the 4th???
[20:36] <MrMcGonagall> I think it meant something in the sense of three confrontations.
[20:36] <Morgan_Noxwell> hmmm it could mean a fight and got away or it could mean they were being recruited and denied him three times until he got fed up and figured out they had the kids that could harm him
[20:36] <Expelliarmas> how many times has Harry defied LV at this point?
[20:36] <Expelliarmas> I can't remember
[20:36] <Morgan_Noxwell> every book
[20:36] <dsm25> 3 times
[20:37] <Morgan_Noxwell> well
[20:37] <dsm25> not on PoA
[20:37] <Expelliarmas> no not every book, not in PoA
[20:37] <Morgan_Noxwell> yeah
[20:37] <danae24> 3 and 1 with Tom Riddle
[20:37] <MrMcGonagall> 4 times
[20:37] <Morgan_Noxwell> I was thinking figuratively since it was wormtail poa
[20:37] <Morgan_Noxwell> but not directly
[20:37] <danae24> Harry didnt face LV on OotP
[20:37] <Expelliarmas> well, Harry is ahead of his parents and the Longbottoms, then
[20:37] <cbm> He defies him just by existing
[20:37] <Morgan_Noxwell> so no not every
[20:37] <dsm25> but defying Tom was the same thing
[20:37] <danae24> not necesarely.......
[20:37] <Expelliarmas> yes, he did danae24, he kept LV from getting the prophecy
[20:37] <MrMcGonagall> Well, LV possessed him in OotP and was driven out by Harry's love
[20:37] <Morgan_Noxwell> I think SS counts b/c it was the memory and the book
[20:38] <dsm25> could it be that the Potters and/or the Longbottoms 'defied' LV while he still was Tom Riddle?
[20:38] <Morgan_Noxwell> he was already being called LV that time
[20:38] <MrMcGonagall> That's an interesting point, dsm.
[20:38] <danae24> bye guys.... the battery on my laptop is about to die....... see ya later!!!!

[20:38] <cbm> bye danae
[20:38] <MrMcGonagall> J.K. Rowling has said that there will still be plenty of things to discuss on the message boards after Deathly Hallows is released. Do you hope that all will be revealed in DH, or would loose ends be nice so that we can keep theorizing?
[20:39] <Expelliarmas> fine literature gives debate for years to come
[20:39] <dsm25> she can't possibly reveal all.
[20:39] <Expelliarmas> four words for you: Lord of the Rings
[20:39] <MrMcGonagall> I don't want major loose ends, but I think there is still plenty in the magical world to speculate about.
[20:39] <Morgan_Noxwell> hmmm I kind of want it all tied up, but I'm okay if it's not.
[20:39] <cbm> I am sure that there will be loose ends, I can think of a few I do not expect to be tied up
[20:40] <MrMcGonagall> As C.S. Lewis said, any book worth reading at the age of ten is worth reading at the age of 50.
[20:40] <dsm25> well, the main story can be resolved without everything being tied up
[20:40] <Morgan_Noxwell> one of them could be dragons blood.
[20:40] <cbm> lol morgan
[20:40] <dsm25> i'm with John. I want to be lining up for the release of the M volume of the HP encyclopedia
[20:41] <cbm> I love HP, but I think I really only need a 1 volume encyclopedia
[20:41] <Aislinn> I think she will leave some loose ends - it's not possible to answer every single question we might have
[20:41] <dsm25> Dd's hand. What happened to it? that could be a loose end
[20:41] <Morgan_Noxwell> def. agree cbm
[20:41] <Morgan_Noxwell> yeah if no one is around to answer it.
[20:41] <Morgan_Noxwell> about DD I mean
[20:42] <Morgan_Noxwell> do you think loose ends will help or harm the final book?
[20:42] <MrMcGonagall> I think Jo will answer all of the major questions.
[20:42] <MrMcGonagall> Any good author ould.
[20:42] <MrMcGonagall> ould
[20:42] <MrMcGonagall> would
[20:42] <Expelliarmas> darn keyboard
[20:42] <cbm> they will not be important to the main plot, so I do not think it will hinder
[20:43] <Morgan_Noxwell> smile
[20:43] <MrMcGonagall> LOL
[20:43] <Morgan_Noxwell> I agree cbm
[20:43] <dsm25> the casual HP reader will feel as though everything is resolved. it's the hardcore fan who can always find something in 7 volumes to tallk about
[20:43] <MrMcGonagall> What did you think of the notion that there is some sort of magical opposite to horcruxes? Has Lily invested a part of herself in Harry by her self-sacrifice?
[20:43] <Morgan_Noxwell> haha! yes dsm I think you're right... sometimes we're never quite satisfied.... that's what happens when we've all been trained to accept the next book
[20:44] <dsm25> that green eyes theory was intriguing
[20:44] <Morgan_Noxwell> I thought that idea was kind of neat! why couldn't there be an opposite to the creatiion of horcruxes
[20:44] <Morgan_Noxwell> but I think it will destroy horcruxes
[20:44] <MrMcGonagall> I think there is something of Lily in Harry, but I don't think it's akin to a soul bit.
[20:44] <cbm> DD said she invested part of herself by leaving her love on Harry
[20:45] <Expelliarmas> I don't think you have to sacrifice yourself to be invested in another person; love does that
[20:45] <Morgan_Noxwell> I think it was just love.
[20:45] <mollywobbles23> Oh, I like that idea.
[20:45] <mollywobbles23> I haven't listened to the podcast yet.
[20:45] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, I think a part of parents always lives in their children
[20:45] <cbm> I think that it was the old magic at work
[20:45] <mollywobbles23> I just like talking to you guys
[20:45] <MrMcGonagall> We're glad you talk to us, mollywobbles! LOL
[20:45] <Poet> I think it is important, but I don't think the sacrifice is directly connected to the horcruxes in that way
[20:46] <Morgan_Noxwell> I can't get cafe mochas off my mind...
[20:46] <MrMcGonagall> I did think this was an interesting sort of theory about having an opposite to horcruxes.
[20:46] *** DA63 has joined #lounge
[20:46] <dsm25> the idea that love is so simple yet so powerful and is the one thing that LV can't grasp
[20:46] <Morgan_Noxwell> I like the theory but would like to say it destrosy horcruxes (aka repairs the soul) but I don't think it'll happen in teh book
[20:46] <Expelliarmas> simple things totally elude LV, dsm25
[20:46] <MrMcGonagall> Love can be divided yet never diminished.
[20:47] <MrMcGonagall> Unlike the tearing apart of a soul through murder
[20:47] <Expelliarmas> i think of love as infinite and impossible to divide
[20:47] <dsm25> exactly MrM
[20:47] *** Aislinn has quit [Bye]
[20:47] <Morgan_Noxwell> ending on a happy note (LOOOOOVE), I think I'm off to bed. sleepy...
[20:47] <MrMcGonagall> Night, Morgan!
[20:47] <Expelliarmas> night, Morgan
[20:47] <Morgan_Noxwell> night
[20:47] <Morgan_Noxwell> sweet dreams!
[20:47] <dsm25> night morgan
[20:47] *** Morgan_Noxwell has quit [Bye]
[20:47] <MrMcGonagall> Is there a connection between Grindelwald and Tom Riddle? Perhaps something to do with horcruxes?
[20:48] <cbm> So maybe that is why Harry was able to destroy the diary, his mother's love
[20:48] <Poet> I do think that someone has made one in the past
[20:48] <dsm25> oh, i think that is a definite possibility
[20:48] <mollywobbles23> perhaps
[20:48] <dsm25> who had the idea that perhaps Tom actually killed him after Dd defeated him?
[20:48] <Poet> But Tom had to find out if about from Slughorn, not Grindelwald
[20:48] <Expelliarmas> there could be; Riddle was rising as Grindewald was falling
[20:49] <cbm> We do not know enough about Grindelwald, perhaps it will be in the encyclopedia
[20:49] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, I just don't think we have enough in canon to understand the connection.
[20:49] <dsm25> someone in the forums did the math and 1945 was a year or so after Tom left Hogwarts
[20:49] <dsm25> it's a fascinating thought
[20:50] <Expelliarmas> Riddle had to have known of Grindewald
[20:50] <Poet> Only 10 minutes left, everyone! This has been a great chat! The transcript for this chat can be found later today in the PotterCast Forum
[20:50] <dsm25> and it wouldn't be the first time useful info came off that chocolate frog card of Dumbledore's! ;)
[20:51] <MrMcGonagall> J.K. Rowling has also said that the Harry-Snape conflict is every bit as personal (if not more so) than Harry-Voldemort. Which of these conflicts most interests you?
[20:51] <Poet> I think there is more that we need to find out about Grindelwald, like how he was defeated
[20:51] <mollywobbles23> Harry-Snape
[20:51] <Expelliarmas> Harry/Snape we know more about it
[20:51] <cbm> Snape right now
[20:51] <dsm25> snape is the big interest point
[20:51] <MrMcGonagall> I think the biggest revelations will come about because of Harry-Snape.
[20:51] <Expelliarmas> We don't know enough about Harry/LV other than LV would love to see him dead
[20:51] <Poet> I'm very interested in both, but I'm extremely curious about Snape in general, not so much about he and Harry duking it out though
[20:51] <dsm25> voldemort is a villian - that's been clear from the start
[20:52] <cbm> I think snape is bad
[20:52] <dsm25> i think he's good
[20:52] *** Aislinn has joined #lounge
[20:52] <cbm> But he is now tied to protecting Draco who is a wimp
[20:52] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, right now, LV is sort of the arch-villain, but the conflict with Snape is more personal.
[20:52] <Poet> I think the end of Book 1 will mirror Book 7 in who Harry thinks is the villan
[20:53] <dsm25> plus the snape thing is so much more complex - all the baggage he carries around about being bullied by james and friends for one
[20:53] <MrMcGonagall> That's an interesting idea, Poet.
[20:53] <MrMcGonagall> I agree, dsm. Harry-Snape is much more complicated.
[20:54] <Expelliarmas> oh I don't agree he was quite the victim, but we'll find out more in DH
[20:54] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, Expie, I think that's why the biggest revelations will be about Snape.
[20:54] <dsm25> why i love JKR. her characters are so complex, believable, and human
[20:54] <MrMcGonagall> There's no question whose side LV is on.
[20:54] <cbm> I do not know if anything that will ever let Harry trust snape, his life started going bad when Snape heard the prophecy
[20:54] <Poet> I agree
[20:55] <Expelliarmas> that's true, cbm
[20:55] <dsm25> something major would have to happen to change harry's feelings about snape
[20:55] <MrMcGonagall> I'm more curious, really, about the resolution of H-S than H-LV.
[20:55] <dsm25> even when he was in the Order, harry felt the same
[20:55] <cbm> It would have to be more that Major
[20:56] <cbm> than major
[20:56] <Poet> I think the Snape /Harry encounters will be brief and far-between
[20:56] <mollywobbles23> but intense
[20:56] <cbm> Just like the Harry LV encounters have been
[20:56] <Poet> I think we'll see a lot of them seperately
[20:56] <MrMcGonagall> I do believe Harry is going to have to re-think a lot of things based on what he discovers about Snape and his loyalties.
[20:56] <dsm25> that will be strange to have many chapters not from harry's point of view
[20:57] <MrMcGonagall> The million dollar question about why DD trusted Snape will have to be answered.
[20:57] <MrMcGonagall> Were there any other theories, questions, or observations from PotterCast 79 that interested you?
[20:57] <cbm> But there is nothing in Harry's past that would let him trust Snape, Harry thinks that DD made a mistake
[20:57] <Expelliarmas> yes, that's crucial
[20:58] <dsm25> that's the biggest reason i trust snape. can Dd really have been wrong?
[20:58] * Expelliarmas still thinks DD got duped on that
[20:58] <MrMcGonagall> I agree, Expie
[20:58] <MrMcGonagall> Poet doesn't think so, though.
[20:58] <Expelliarmas> Snape gave Harry no reason to trust him since the very first book
[20:58] <cbm> Yes he can DSM, anyone can be wrong, james and sirius were wrong about peter and they knew peter better than Dd knew Snape
[20:59] <MrMcGonagall> I think Harry is wrong about certain things concerning Snape.
[20:59] <dsm25> well, the foreshadowing to his being wrong could be his admitting to harry in OotP that he was wrong to not have let harry know many of the things he knew
[20:59] <cbm> He also admitted to Harry that it was wrong to have snape to the occlumency lessons
[20:59] <Poet> Awesome chat everyone
[21:00] <MrMcGonagall> Well, this has been a great chat, everyone. Thanks for coming!
[21:00] <dsm25> i know he can be wrong, cbm, i guess i like to think of Dd as infallible as LV is evil
[21:00] <Expelliarmas> brilliant chat, kudos to all
[21:00] <DA63> snape is good
[21:00] <dsm25> thanks! this hour flew by!
[21:00] <Poet> Thanks for coming
[21:00] <Poet> yeah
[21:00] <cbm> I did too, dsm

[16:17] <futureweasley> I would have enjoyed being there...150 is a lot more intimate than 1500
[16:17] <blathnat> and it was fun meeting fellow brits
[16:17] <KimmyBlair> it was funny to hear the crowd with accents!
[16:17] <KimmyBlair> i'm used to hearing an american crowd at the live podcasts
[16:17] <futureweasley> I bet! There were lots of Leaky Loungers there, from what I understand
[16:17] <Theoriser> I so wish I could have been there, it sounded like you had a great time
[16:17] <Theoriser> it was interesting to hear the accents
[16:18] <Theoriser> John and Melissa attended a number of plays currently starring actors from the HP films. Does your familiarity with the HP actors increase your interest or desire to see them in live theatre performances?
[16:18] <KimmyBlair> well I'd see jason Isaacs just about anywhere
[16:18] <KimmyBlair> i'm not picky

[16:22] <meera18may> what consoles will they release it onto?
[16:22] <fawkes28> Kimmy, tried to convince me before to play the video games

[16:24] <MrMcGonagall> There are some phoenixes that I'd like to transfigure now and then.
[16:24] <blathnat> well john was showing us some of the wand movements

[16:41] <Theoriser> On to some of the interesting questions posed by audience members: Do you think we'll learn some of the uses of dragon's blood in DH, perhaps with relation to the horcruxes?
[16:41] <blathnat> Cupcake icing lol

[16:42] <meera18may> I agree with mrmgonagall. it might touch on it to explain something else but not to destroy hocruxes
[16:42] <MrMcGonagall> Just a little spritz of dragon's blood should take care of this horcrux . . .
[16:42] <blathnat> lmao
[16:43] <fawkes28> i think we need to learn about them
[16:43] <fawkes28> at least i am counting on it
[16:43] <MrMcGonagall> I think the information needs to figure into the story somehow. We've been teased with it often enough.
[16:44] <meera18may> With a dash of oregano to enhance the flavour
[16:44] <blathnat> this is from suzb: Thank you for trying for me, just enjoy the rest of the chat, because apperently the CB hates me and you could look into the problem after the chats done i would appreciate it

[16:46] <Theoriser> What do you think it means that both the Potters and the Longbottoms had "defied" Voldemort three times?
[16:46] <MrMcGonagall> I think there must have been three confrontations of some sort.
[16:46] <Theoriser> I think it means the same sort of thing that harry has done
[16:46] <blathnat> That they where given to option to join and they said no three times
[16:47] <blathnat> thats how i inturprited it
[16:48] <meera18may> Yeah, I believe that there must have been some sort of big (okay maybe not tooo big) confontation (times 3)
[16:48] <MrMcGonagall> Yes, I wonder if LV gave his victims a "join me or die" ultimatum.
[16:48] <Theoriser> J.K. Rowling has said that there will still be plenty of things to discuss on the message boards after Deathly Hallows is released. Do you hope that all will be revealed in DH, or would loose ends be nice so that we can keep theorizing?
[16:48] <MrMcGonagall> I don't want major loose ends, but I don't think every niggling question we have will be answered.
[16:49] <blathnat> I want them encyclopedias
[16:49] <KimmyBlair> oh jeez i just missed everything

[16:50] <KimmyBlair> sigh
[16:50] <MrMcGonagall> I'm hoping the Magical Theory forum on Leaky will still have some things to speculate about.
[16:50] <KimmyBlair> yeah
[16:51] <meera18may> yes
[16:51] <KimmyBlair> like soul splitting
[16:51] <fawkes28> i kind of dont want her to tell us everything - just to leave a little bit left for us to imagine
[16:51] <KimmyBlair> perhaps we might not find all out about that
[16:51] <Theoriser> I want a balance between them. I don't want too much left unsaid, but I still want to theorise
[16:51] <fawkes28> i would really love to have a backstory on DD as well as the Founders
[16:51] <MrMcGonagall> We definitely need Hogwarts, A History yet.
[16:51] <Theoriser> yeah, there's so much backstory
[16:51] <fawkes28> i love history
[16:52] <blathnat> i agree MrMcGonagall

[16:52] <fawkes28> hahahaha
[16:53] <Theoriser> What did you think of the notion that there is some sort of magical opposite to horcruxes? Has Lily invested a part of herself in Harry by her self-sacrifice?
[16:53] <MrMcGonagall> I thought this was an interesting idea. I don't think it's part of Lily's soul in Harry, though.
[16:53] <fawkes28> i agree, mr. m
[16:53] <MrMcGonagall> Although parents do live on in their children in some sense.
[16:53] <fawkes28> i think that is just with harry's eyes
[16:53] <KimmyBlair> hmmmm
[16:53] <fawkes28> not lily's soul
[16:53] <blathnat> that one confused me
[16:54] <meera18may> Same
[16:54] <MrMcGonagall> I like the idea that there's a counterbalance to the evil of horcruxes.
[16:54] <KimmyBlair> i do too
[16:54] <KimmyBlair> there should always be a conterbalance
[16:55] <meera18may> But its a really good idea and I can see why as it sorta does make sense to have an opposite although i'm not sure about the soul thing.

[16:56] <Theoriser> Is there a connection between Grindelwald and Tom Riddle? Perhaps something to do with horcruxes?
[16:56] <fawkes28> ohhh - i like this question
[16:56] <meera18may> I think I just said the same thing as you fawkes but ordered diffrently and with more spelling mistakes (oops)
[16:57] <fawkes28> it is all good smile
[16:57] <KimmyBlair> I think there is as much similarity bettween Gridelwald and Tom, as their is between Harry and Dumbledore
[16:57] <fawkes28> i think that there is some connection between these too - right now - horcruxes seems like the best connection
[16:57] <KimmyBlair> some... but not a ton...
[16:58] <blathnat> there is a connection some where but i am not sure about the horcruxes
[16:58] <MrMcGonagall> Someone in yesterday's chat said that in the timeline, Tom Riddle would have graduated Hogwarts a year before Grindelwald's downfall.
[16:58] <fawkes28> i think Tom was in contact with him
[16:58] <fawkes28> i wouldn't put that past him at all
[16:58] <Theoriser> J.K. Rowling has also said that the Harry-Snape conflict is every bit as personal (if not more so) than Harry-Voldemort. Which of these conflicts most interests you?
[16:58] <MrMcGonagall> I think that we just don't have enough info about Grindelwald to make any sound guesses as to the connection between him and Riddle
[16:58] <KimmyBlair> Harry Snape...
[16:59] <KimmyBlair> because you know Volde is bad, and why
[16:59] <fawkes28> definitely harry and snape laugh
[16:59] <MrMcGonagall> I think it's really about Harry-Snape.
[16:59] <KimmyBlair> we don't really know what side harry is on, and we dont' know as much of Snape
[16:59] <KimmyBlair> s back story
[16:59] <fawkes28> we all love to argue about them - right Mr. M wink
[16:59] <MrMcGonagall> Voldie is the arch-villain, but Snape is the interesting, complex villain.
[16:59] <KimmyBlair> (oops we dont' know what side Snape is on... we ALL know which side Harry is on)
[16:59] <fawkes28> Harry is going to have a harder time forgiving Snape than forgiving Voldemort, in my opinion
[17:00] <KimmyBlair> yeah
[17:00] <meera18may> Harry and Snape! Complexity is brilliant
[17:00] <KimmyBlair> voldemort is very straight foward... he's bad
[17:00] <blathnat> gah that made me think of fan fic
[17:00] <KimmyBlair> Snape... way more complex
[17:00] <fawkes28> some of us think we know what side Snape is on though - tee hee
