I can't say I have a favourite trio moment in PS/SS. I love the book partly for its realistical relationships between characters. This little trio, as unusual as a trio friendship is in reality, yet never seems faked, in my opinion. So I just love this trio as an icon for friendships that last through thick and thinn, in all its glory, I guess.

I voted for the troll scene

This is one truly amazing freindship, one of the only things I am jealous of.
I posted a similar thing in my Reading Group, about how my headmaster in Primary School said never play in threes or fives becuase someone is bound to get left out. I absolutely agree with this becuase I was always the one to get left out (I'm not complaining, or anything). I think one of the reasons that Jo had a friendship of three is simply that conversation is easier, there is more scope for fall outs, and it is better to write about more characters. Forgive me for this, but my favourite Trio moment in not canon, but the 'Never Better' scene in the movie. It makes me smile every time becuase it shows just what good friends they are, even since going through all that. From the book, I would have to pick the Troll part, becuase a bond is truly made there. Something special has just happened. -------------------- ![]() "...because if there is one thing I've learned from all I've been through, it's that you only regret the things that you didn't do." My favourite moment is definitely the time when they fought the mountain troll together... and defeated it. I just loved the way Hermione stood up for them by actually lying to McGonagall and giving herself the blame.. that was really selfless, though they had said mean things about her, and then saved her life. The last line in that chapter is definitely my favourite line from the whole book. It says a lot about friendship, and I love it.

I voted for their first meeting, as I do love that part, but another favorite of mine is when they landed on the Devil's Snare and Hermione looks around frantically for wood. I loved, loved, loved how Ron was necessary on the chess board and Hermione with the potions (angry potions part was not in the film!) because it showed that Harry couldn't do everything by himself. He's not Superman or some cartoonish thing like that. Just a normal...er...wizard in glasses who needed his friends help.
I loved that and I hope to see that come back around in DH. -------------------- |

For me, as much as I love the troll scene for cementing the Trio's friendship, my favourite has o be going down the trapdoor, mainly because of the way all three of them work together as a unit to get Harry to the Stone, and the way both Ron and Hermione play to their strengths to help the other two, and to hep Harry with the ultimate goal.
I think it just shows how JK wrote the trio to compement each other, so that they may have individual talents, but they come together to be a whole unit This was actually said best by JK herself, in a radio interview in 1999: QUOTE .....Harry is guided by his conscience. He is flanked by two friends, they work far better as a team than apart, though Harry tends to be the one who has to shoulder the most of the burden - he is the true hero in that sense, Hermione, who is really the brain of the outfit, and Ron, who is also a very brave character...

Mountain troll without any doubts. Harry and Ron decided it was partially their fault after all the teasing of this know-it-all, Hermione decided she should lie to a teacher to defend her friends...and even had some points taken out!!!

I had to go with "Going Down The Trap Door". It was so interesting to see how the Trio really began to take on their particular roles. They jelled when they were working together, and I think that, by far was my favorite memory of them from the first book.
Throughout this book, the 3 friends have their ups and down, and I think it's really interesting that their dynamic is really brought forward once they ban together and go down the trap door. Ron, the strategist, Hermione, the logical voice of reason, and Harry, the warrior. I think there is a lot of foreshadowing in the tests set up in the first book, and am very interested to see if the final battles in DH mirror the tests in PS/SS. For more discussion about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, please see the "Flourish & Blotts" section of the forum. Look for "Unfogging Deathly Hallows". -------------------- |

I also agree with Down the Trap Door, because everyone got their chance to shine, and they put those moments together.
Ron's shining moment is definitely the Chess Game. It both shows his ability to come up with strategy, and his bravery in acknowledging, OK, it's got to be done and I'm going to do it. Yes, Ron is the one who knocked out the troll, but it seemed to be sort of by reflexes, instinct. Hermione got flustered with the Devil's Snare, but Harry and Ron helped her through it to save them. (Far better than what they did in the movie to the experience.) With Snape's barrier, she was in her element. And, of course, Harry with the flying keys, and keeping the group moving. -------------------- Failure to try is the surest failure
