I understand from reading prevous posts that JKR must have said in an interview that the locked room contains a fountain of Amortencia, but this doesn't make sense to me. If it's so very dangerous that they have to keep the room locked, why is it a potion that is actually brewed by Slughorn at Hogwarts to show the sixth year students?
Even Molly said she and her friends brewed love potions when she was a girl, and Romilda obviously got her hands on a love potion strong enough to force Ron to obsess about her. So, I'll disagree here. I believe the room is where the essence of love itself, real love, not "love" or obsession fabricated with a potion, is studied intensely. Real love is the most powerful and can be the most dangerous mystery of life, so it makes sense to me that it was done in a locked room. -------------------- |

Actually, Jo didn't say it was Amortentia. She just said that it was a powerful love potion. Perhaps one being developed by the Ministry. Since it her world then that is what it is, much as some us might prefer that it wasn't. I didn't like that idea much either, but I accept it.

Or if there IS love potion in the room, and it IS just like the kind that Slughorn gave out, maybe there is a CRAZY big amount of it. Maybe its like alcohol or drugs. if you take to much you will destroy yourself. and the ministry didn't want that much available to the public in one place. Or maybe its more powerful in numbers.

Slughorn said that nothing would create true only the belief that you were. As with Voldemort's father when we have guessed, that stoped giving it to
him because she hoped that he would really love her. That as we know did not happen. I have always thought he was a rat because the least he could really do was find the child and have him raised even if he would not give him his name. Perhaps by the servents. Back on topic. The love room seemed to be a place where they were trying to understand real love. Like why you love one person but not another. Thats why in the Harry Potter series their was so much shipping. JK had him end up with Ginny only because that is what she wanted. But in the real world there is just as much a reason that he might have ended up with; Luna, Hermione, or who knows else. That is what I think they were trying to understand why one person may love the right or wrong person for them. Even we ask that question. What does she see in him? Everyone from time to time asks that question. Their quest in the locked room, I think was to try to answer that question. Makes sense I think. Horas1 |

I think it contains something that is usually contained behind a locked door, and what exactly to say is hiding the door is not likely to be known.

Since they study thoughts in the brain room, and it contains brains, I thought that perhaps in the love room they might study the heart. But I never heard about that quote from Jo, so thankyou for posting that, Harrydavid. As you say, it is Jo's universe, so the answer is whatever she says it is. -------------------- "Why do you think they're after us, because we're so awesome? I'll always agree with Jo. She can make Dumbledore admit he's gay if she wants to. So if she says it's powerful, maybe even permanent love potions, then it is.
But the question is, why did they just leave it there if it's so dangerous? Why don't they destroy it, so no more temptations. Who can open it? Why can't Sirius' knife open it, when it should open any lock? -------------------- "There are all kinds of courage.
