Order of the Phoenix ~ The book of THE Prophecy; with revolting toads, pink haired aurors, eccentric Ravenclaws, weepy girlfriends, irate centaurs, brooding godfathers, sadistic Death eaters and 16-foot giants to spice things up. OOTP was a book that contained a lot of anger, most of it coming from Harry. He was justifiably short with Dumbledore and that spilled over on his friends too. If we thought that things would be okay at Hogwarts, we were in for a big mistake. Umbridge took it upon herself to give Harry the most miserable year he'd ever had at Hogwarts. Did she get on your nerves too ? Who else did you feel like kicking in OOTP ? Who did you feel deserved accolades for their behaviour ? And why ? Tell us your thoughts in your posts. You can vote for more than one option. This post has been edited by rowena r: May 26 2009, 10:34 AM -------------------- ![]() |

I think everyone on the list deserves admiration, but I also think that Sirius deserves applause for wanting to rescue Harry and Snape also deserves some credit for not giving Sirius away to his DE cronies.
As for the most annoying people, I don't think you do worse than Umbridge, Fudge and Marietta. She could have said in the first place she didn't want to belong to the DA. Whilst DD had his reasons, I thought that Harry's anger with him was understandable. |

Without a doubt, Dolores Umbridge angered me the most in OotP, closely followed by Fudge, I might add. Umbridge's "teaching" methods were draconian to say the least, her treatment of Hagrid was appalling, all because he was a "half breed", and that goes for the legislation she drafted which made it extremely difficult for people like Remus Lupin to find work. She's just vile, basically.
I wanted to punch Fudge repeatedly for being so damn stupid. I can't believe he really thought Dumbledore was after his job and that was the reason he refused to believe Voldemort had returned. By not acknowledging the truth, he put the entire wizarding community in danger, allowing Voldemort and his minions to go about their plans unchallenged. Unbelievable. There are several characters who's actions I think should be applauded. First, Harry. Now, I know he spent almost the entire book yelling at everyone, but that's perfectly understandable to me. But he stood up to Umbridge and the Ministry, he gave that interview with Rita Skeeter, knowing it would get him into trouble, and when he thought Sirius was in danger he rushed to the Ministry without a thought for his own safety. In that vein, I think the D.A. members who accompanied Harry deserve a mention, especially Ginny, Neville and Luna. They didn't have to go, but went regardless. I don't think many other students would have willingly rushed to face Voldemort and his Death Eaters. -------------------- |

First off I would have said Umbrige as the character that angered me the most however reading the series over again I relised how much of a Prick Sirius Black was and what worrys me more is that his and James pranks on Severus could be Hate Crimes.
as for who deserves more appause Nevlie and Ginny are close but it would be depressing without Fred and George. |

First and foremost, Umbridge was infuriating, just a scourge of the earth. She took everything that made Hogwarts a comfort and a home to Harry and twisted it into something unbearable. As if Harry didn't have enough problems with his horrid dreams, trying to figure out what to do with his feelings for Cho, and, well, just being 15 in general.
Secondly, I'm still dumbfounded that Dumbledore failed to find some way to warn Harry about the dangers in his dreams. Sure, he made an ill-advised attempt to have Snape teach Harry occlumency, but couldn't he have somehow delivered a message to Harry that Voldemort may be trying to plant images in your dreams, so don't believe what you see? How hard would that have been? That whole battle at the Ministry and Sirius dead for nothing. Bad Dumbledore! As for who deserved applause, I agree with SnapesSister that Ginny, Neville and Luna were pretty amazing in essentially demanding to go to the Ministry with Harry, knowing that they were almost surely going to have to battle Death Eaters. Very impressive. -------------------- "Only love...can leave such a mark / But only love...can heal such a scar" -U2 |

Apart from the usual suspects, the one that annoyed me most was Draco, because of his prejudiced attitude. He didn't even try to be fair to people, taking off points as he liked to. You could also include Pansy Parkinson in that. Ron Weasley and his Quidditch woes were also irritating as well. He gave into pressure too easily.
I admired Fred, George, Neville and Luna most. These are the ones who stuck by Harry through thick and thin, in Neville's case under a terrible burden. I thought that Snape was good for not turning in Sirius to the Ministry of Magic as he could have done, and for providing the fake Veritaserum. -------------------- |

Harry annoyed me the most! Particuarly his hormonal rantings at the beginning! I just wanted him to SHUT UP! It wasnt poor Ron and Hermione's fault. (I cant beleive he brought her to tears. Poor Hermione
Also Umbridge annoyed me - reasons should be apparent And Mundungus - I dunno, just didnt get him. I agree with Molly, Why was he allowed in the Order? (Contacts aside) The People I thought most deserved praise, well Ron and Hermione for putting up with Harry (They too were under enormous stress), as well as the DA members that followed them to the ministry to help - that was pure Bravery! Also the members of the Order - Including Mollywobbles. Just epic. |

Just re-reading 'Order' at the mo', and I think Arabella Figg
With no magical powers yet knowing what she was going to be facing, she took it upon herself to seek out Harry and try and help him in whatever way she could. That's damn admirable in my book. And she was vital as a witness at Harry's hearing. I suspect she may have been somewhat 'generous' in her description of what happened and ability to see the Dementors, but I think that is quite in keeping with the personalities of most of the members of the Order. Dumbledore's actions were frustrating to say the least. I can understand his reasoning, but you feel like surely he could have found a way to warn Harry of his suspicions. Well, back to the reading cheers |

The bad is like a death row of mass murders, but I cut it down to three.
1. Umbridge has to be at the top of the bridge. she reminded me of a few I had in boarding school. When she entered the school and interrupted Dumbledore from that moment on you could see her power growing and her evil getting stronger. The hand thing with Harry where she was causing blood scares on his hand. I wanted to come into the book and smash ever picture in her room first, well you can imagine the rest. I did like the way they were not allowed to walk around like bums with their shirts, score one point for her. The greater attempt she made to gain control the school the more it slipped away from her. As was said of Hannibal, he could gain great victories, but never seemed to gain anything. Her greed for power and to show what she could do was her downfall. To bad the Giant was not hungry. 2. Fudge: If ever their was ever a stupider and a more insecure person, he would win the award hands down. After he lost the case against Harry power began to slip from his grasp. His last chance was to show that Dumbledore was building an army against him and that Voldemort had not returned. I am sure begging for this job was Umbrige. A. Prove that Dumbledore was trying to gain power even if he had to teach them nothing so they would be of no value. Also find that their was no proof that Voldemort had not returned. This did include trying to brain wash the students into thinking so. Good luck. Her end bothered me especially considering her role in the next novel. 3. Bellatrix: Master of the evil remark. Is more nuts than a gallon of peanuts. Her killing of Sirius was a tremendous blow to Harry taking away his only real hope of having someone he loved and could be a true father figure. Doing that to lure Harry into the room where you know would appear. Finding out that he could use an imperious curse but did not kill her even at what she had done. Voldemort had been trying to turn him to hate but he had enough friends and Love that he could not change that. Bella is without the most faithful and loving could mean more Deatheater he had. Good bunch this was a tough one, everyone showed something good. But in the book I had to go with 4. 1.Professor McGonagall: For defending Hagrid even when she was out numbered and had no chance she almost got killed, but fortunately lived and when she put Snape in his place at the end by adding huge number of points to Griffindore. That made my day. 2. The order. They made all the right moves to help in the end and worked very hard to protect Harry. They were open enough to prepare Harry for what was happening and that gave him some preparedness as to what was going to happen when he went to school. They were their just in time to save the Dumbledores army. Though almost none were standing they did recover. 3. Arthur's and Molly's help before and after the trial have to put them almost at the top. Arthur's loving much like a father and Molly mother figure put a stop for them going to far at the dinner table. The way they explained everything was good advice and showed their love as Harry was their child. 4.Neville. Until now he has been a loyal but inept Wizard. He learns more and faster than anyone in the DA. Harry is very impressed. At the battle of the chamber he is willing to go down fighting. This is the great test that gets him ready for what is to come. You could add and subtract from both sides and be right its just how you look at things, I guess.
