I think it would be nice to have some sort of public service event offered for fans who want to participate. Maybe it would be the day before or after the conference so as not to interfere, but I know that in New Orleans a lot of people volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, and I was thinking we could do something similar. Maybe our volunteering this time could focus on literacy, as a lot of children in the rougher parts of the Boston metro area aren't reading anywhere near grade level. Maybe we could disperse to different schools and spark interest in reading for children with none other than Harry Potter.

That's a brilliant idea. I would love to be involved in that, if we could get something organized.

I was talking to Edward the other night about maybe there being something along the lines of the parenting displayed in the Potter books. I don't know if it's a good idea or not, and it's not something I could actually do, but I'd love to attend something of that nature.

The organisation would take some work, but I think it's definitely doable. MIT does lots of programs like this, some where the students actually come to the campus but others where volunteers disperse themselves among the local schools. I just looked at Cambridge Public Schools website and they will be in session until June 18th this year, so Boston area schools will definitely still be in full swing in the days leading up to LeakyCon. I don't know if things like a background check are required prior to volunteering though, that could be problematic if most ppl will only be arriving the night before.

I was thinking that it might be cool to have a screening of the We Are Wizards documentary that Melissa's featured in. I saw it a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing! I don't know if it will have had a wider release by the time LeakyCon arrives, but if not, it would be a great opportunity for people who haven't been able to catch it!

This is an excellent idea, Bookworm Jen! The DRAGONs team is already working on some regular HP screenings ideas (with some twists) and this would be a great one to add to the batch! Thanks for your suggestion! smile.gif

Brilliant! I know that those who attended the Habitat for Humanity project in New Orleans for Phoenix Rising were very pleased that they did so--it sounds like an excellent tradition to continue... smile.gif Again, I will pass it along to my Lady DRAGONs. Thanks, GreenLightening!

Kel, this sounds like something that the Academic Programming might want to pick up. Fantastic idea! Especially today being Mother's Day, we all are aware of the fine parenting skills in the books and the focus on it!

I'm so impressed with all of your suggestions!! smile.gif Thanks for all of your ideas guys, and I promise that we're working hard to make this an awesome conference for you... HORRAY! ^_^

Since it's so close to the anniversary of the battle, maybe we should have midnight candelit vigil for all of the characters who died in the books.

Just thinking that they're should be some good house pride programming. It'd be nice to have strong programming involving the cannon houses. At past conventions the Hufflepuffs always have their parade, but I would like it to get even more crazy than that (in a good way) and with all four of the houses.

OHO FAIR RAVENCLAW friend, true enough all Houses should have their moment at these cons, true true, yep yep

However...

HUFFLEPUFF PRIDE WILL BE IN FULL FORCE REGATTA IN ALL ITS BLACK AND GOLD GLORY for LeakyCon, I assure you....WHEEEEEEEEEE!

be warned for much Puffly joy and hijinks biggrin.gif

My sister MagicDucks has just told me that I have to go dressed as a badger and be the Hufflepuff mascot because of my screen name. tongue.gif
