Here's step one of the wand I'm starting today. I'm using gold paint. Mmmm.

Step one of my wand completed. Went with the black craft paint for now as the nearest place with any decent selection of wood stains is 50 miles away lol.gif

I got my clay on yesterday and put a coat of paint on it just now.

I'm thinking I might try to put some fine "woodgrain" lines on with a tiny brush and then do a very diluted wash of black or brown to antique it some. We'll see how my mood strikes me though.

Now that the paint dried, I added the clay for the handle. Trying to see how it works embedding gemstones in the clay. Hopefully they will stay once it dries.

I do too. However, I have learned that they do not stick when paper clay dries but at least I have the places marked where to glue them later.

I have finally got round to putting the clay on my wand and getting the design almost right. Now have to sand it a little, see if I can make the carving on the square bit of the handle a bit clearer and get round to painting it.

Well, painted the handle yesterday (finished pictures is in the final product thread) and started by using a fine brush to do around the jewels. Surprisingly I ended up only having to glue one gemstone back in the rest held once the clay dried so I guess I just didn't have that one pressed in deep enough. Used craft glue on it to glue it back and let it dry over night before painting. Seems to be holding rather well.

Put on a coat of base paint last night so here is another pic. The image size rules don't allow me to show anywhere near the detail I crave, so if you click on the pic then it will link to a bigger sized picture, so you can see the carving on the handle etc.

Thanks for the compliment As_Weasley_as_I_wannabe smile.gif blush.gif The flowers are fabric ones from my local craft shop pressed into the clay. I got some vine from a weed in my garden and wrapped that around as well. On the square bit of the handle in this shot you can see the word Sötétnő which is my username and means "Dark lady" in Hungarian. The opposing side of the wand says this too, and on the two other sides it says Hollóhát which is the name from the Hungarian translations of the books for Ravenclaw (very proud Ravenclaw I am!).

In the next few days I will be painting over the carving in a different colour to make it more obvious and also painting the roses and vines to make them stand out too. Then it should be finished.

Wow, that is really excellent! I love that you have the words on there too. It truly is a personalized wand smile.gif

What color will yours be when it's finished?

Bummer, Dragonfairy. I hope you'll get to do it!

My wand has been at a standstill lately (still want to paint some details on it) but this Memorial Day weekend we'll be having a family/friends "camping" trip (cabin camping, complete with video games) so maybe I can rope some others to make some wands with me! smile.gif

Will update. Hope everyone's coming along well!

My wand has been at a standstill lately... but this Memorial Day weekend we'll be having a family/friends "camping" trip...

Unfortunately my wandmaking plans were forced to a complete halt for the last few weeks of school, but I'm on my sumer holidays now and hopefully five days wil be enough to finish it wink.gif So far I have the actual dowel part of the wand(which was substituted by a silver birch branch) ready to go and I'm hoping to buy the clay for the handle today. So here's where I am at present: . I finally got a deviantART account so I could put up pictures chronicling my progress, it's here.

I'll be back when I've got a little more done, I hope you had fun on your camping trip 'Quietish' bye.gif
