I think I've also solved the sudoku but as I haven't solved the cipher above I'll just describe the symbols.
The First is a coloured in diamond. The second is a weird z that ends in a squiggly thing. The third looks like the head of an ant i.e. a circle with two lines that look like antennae. The fourth looks like an empty diamond with curved sides. The fifth is basically just an x. |

Prankster's Logic Puzzle in the October Quibbler:
Answer: the first to be Sorted was a wizard. Explanation: Unless Hogwarts was accepting house-elves and trolls back in '89, the first to be Sorted was either a witch or a wizard. Since the twins make opposite claims about the initial Sortee's gender, one of the twins must be telling the truth. And since we are told that only one of the three pranksters tells the truth, Lee must certainly be lying. But if Lee lies when he says that George is lying, then in fact George must be telling the truth. So the first to be Sorted was, as George claims, a wizard. Alternate Explanation: One can also simply consider each prankster as the lone truth-teller in turn -- in two cases, this leads to more than one person being truthful simultaneously, which is not allowed. To wit: if Fred tells the truth, then Lee would be lying when he says that George is lying, so George would in fact be telling the truth -- but that is impossible, since Fred and George can't both tell the truth. And if Lee is telling the truth when he says George is lying, then George would indeed be lying and the first to be Sorted would have been a witch -- but then Fred would be telling the truth in addition to Lee, so we have another impossibility. Therefore George must be the sole truth-teller, and a wizard was Sorted first. (In this case, Fred is lying since he claims the first-Sorted was a witch, and Lee is lying since he deceitfully claims that George is lying.) ETA: Aha! Looking back at previous posts, I see that Fabian Prewett concurs! Cheers, FP! Got the solutions to all puzzles, but to get into the Quibbler again is getting a bit to much. Maybe I should make a puzzle for the next Quibbler?
Rune Puzzle: Ghosts: Fat Friar Professor Binns Quote: Troll in the dungeons, thought you ought to know By Professor Quirrel Happened at Halloween: Lily and James Potter murdered Baby Harry orphaned Death Day Party Sudoku: Ginny Crossword: Halloween, but with an extra e? I apologize for my quickness, but have some time on my hands and enjoy the puzzles. |

..., but to get into the Quibbler again is getting a bit to much. Huh? Congratulations greatpetie83! As for the crossword word, my appologies. There seems to indeed be one 'e' too many! Sorry about that! So far we still have two puzzles unsolved (or at least not reported back here), though: "Where is Gilderoy Lockhart?" and the five differencies between the pumpkin images. I've been mentioned in several quibblers in a row for getting (mostly) the rune puzzle first. It's flattering, but even I think it's to much. That's what I mean.
