Would you mind telling me which book I could get an accurate description of the leaky cauldron?

Would you mind telling me which book I could get an accurate description of the leaky cauldron? You could try those books where the Leaky Cauldron is actually mentioned. I found these quotes describing the Leaky Cauldron PS/SS p. 53-5: 'This is it,' said Hagrid, coming to a halt, 'the Leaky Cauldron. It's a famous place.' It was a tiny, grubby-looking pub. If Hagrid hadn't pointed it out, Harry wouldn't have noticed it was there. The people hurrying by didn't glance at it. Their eyes slid from the big book shop on one side to the record shop on the other as if they couldn't see the Leaky Cauldron at all.... For a famous place, it ws very dark and shabby. A few old women were sitting in a corner, drinking tiny glasses of sherry.... Doris Crockford shook Harry's hand one last time and Hagrid led them through the bar and out into a small walled courtyard, where there was nothing but a dustbin and a few weeds. POA. p. 36-41: Ern slammed on the brakes and the Knight Bus skidded to a halt in front of a small and shabby-looking pub, the Leaky Cauldron ,behind which lay the magical entrance to Diagon Alley..... Fudge increased the pressure on Harry's shoulder and Harry found himself being steered inside the pub..... 'And a private parlour please, Tom,' said Fudge pointedly..... Fudge marched Harry along the narrow passage after Tom's lantern and tehn into a small parlour. ...a fire burst into life in the grate....Fudge strode out of the parlour.....came back.... 'Room eleven's free, Harry'..... Harry followed Tom up a handsome wooden staircase to a door with a brass number eleven on it, which Tom unlocked and opened for him. Inside was a very comfortable-looking bed, some highly polished oak furniture, a cheerfully crackling fire and, perched on top of the wardrobe.. 'Hedwig!' gasped Harry. POA is probably the best place to find descriptions of the Leaky Cauldron since Harry stays there a while. In HBP the descriptions on p. 107 are brief. The Leaky Cauldron was, for the first time in Harry's memory, completely empty. Only Tom the landlord...remained of the old crowd. .... Tom nodded gloomily and returned to wiping glasses; Harry, Hermione, Hagrid and the Weasleys walked through the bar and out into the chilly little courtyard at the back where the dustbins stood. In DH, p.423 we find out that the Leaky Cauldron is on Charing Cross Road in London. -------------------- Check out the Beedle the Bard Book Club |

Which book can I get a definition for Apparating/ Disapparating?? There is quite a bit about Apparating and Disapparating in at least three of the books. Try GOF at the beginning of Chapter 6 (The portkey). It is page 63 in my edition. (BE). "Harry knew that Apparating was very difficult; it meant disappearing from one place and reappearing almost instantly in another." After that quote there is a discussion about Apparating. OotP has Fred and George Apparating all over 12 Grimmauld Place. HBP is the book where Harry has lessons in Apparating/Disapparaing. Hermione is the only one who gets a licence. DH is the book where Harry has to use this ability on many occasions whether he has a licence or not. -------------------- Check out the Beedle the Bard Book Club |
