We read about this mystical sounding fairy tale book in Deathly Hallows, and now we have this wonderful book in our hands. Now that you've read it, what is your initial reaction?

I myself loved it. I enjoyed learning more about the wizarding world. Fairy tales tell us about the customs and beliefs of a culture, so these tales allow us to see more about Harry's world.

i loved the stories (i think hairy heart and hopping pot might be my favourites) and i loved dumbledore's commentary - some of it was really laugh-out-loud funny.

i really enjoyed jo's intro and footnotes but i was not entirely keen on the instances where she steps outside of the book whilst pretending its real, if you see what i mean. i'm thinking, for instance, of when she says:
QUOTE
"everyone who has read all seven volumes on the life of Harry Potter"
(page 16 in the uk edition)

as though the books we have read exist within the potterverse itself.
also there are other moments when she refers to mcgonagall as though she has spoken to her herself...

there is something about this approach that bothers me. i feel like she is muddling up cannon and real life in a way that doesn't make sense. i know it's just meant as a bit of fun but i think i would rather she had either just written the forward (but possibly as an afterword) as herself in a realist 'author of the harry potter books' way - for example if she wanted to talk about her inspration in writing the tales etc.. and just let dumbledore carry the fictional intro / footnotes aspect of the book.

it didn't by any stretch ruin it for me and i know it's not that big a deal - i think perhaps it bothers me because i feel it's quite out of character for her writing style and that her grasp of cannon / real world rules is usually so clear and strong..

I was just so Harry Potter!!!!!!!!! It sounded like Harry Potter!!!!!!!!!! I was just kinda looking forward to some fun stories that tied into the books a bit, but it really, really, sounded like part of the series in a way. I couldn't stop reading it and rereading it and cramming it down the throats of all the fans I knew who weren't that excited...

recieved Beedle the Bard for Christmas and read it that day, I thought the sotries were good, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it if the footnotes did not exhist. I'm glad we discovered a few things, non-beedle reelated, such as why Lucius started hating Dumbledore, and how Nearly Headless Nick Actually Died. I thought that the footnotes may not have been needed by JKR herself, but I thought Dumbledore's insight was great.

When I finished it, my first thought was, "That was short." It only takes about an hour to read - which was really weird compared to the actual series. But I really liked it. I don't think I can say I'm crazy about it, but it was really interesting and I love discussing it. I'm really glad it was made available to everybody!

I did enjoy the stories. I really like knowing what in the heck Ron is talking about when he discusses the different stories from Beedle the Bard. It's nice to have that back ground.

The one part I really enjoyed was having a wizard of the past with the last name of Granger, and how most wizards believe that somewhere along the line everyone who is a witch or wizard has magical blood, even muggle born.

My opinion... good, entertaining, not great, but still I enjoy reading it!

The stories were o.k but I don't think that I would read it again. I found the footnotes more interesting.

i loved it! especially the notes by Dumbledore and whatnot. It was no epic Harry Potter adventure, but it's part of the fandom so i couldn't ignore it!

I thought it was a good read, and it is and always will be extremely interesting to delve further into the Harry Potter universe. It contained the signature writing style of Rowling and it's good to know that she seems to have put as much work into this short collection of stories as she did with the HP series.

Though she originally said she wouldn't, I expect and hope that JK will continue to divulge more about the world of Harry Potter in more books like this, or perhaps even more novels.
